zoothorn replied to zoothorn's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
That beer or seven should be on me- enjoy onoff. Reveals.. tbh solid enough.. I was worried about this but seem ok. I'll fill the gaps sides @ top to shore up & backs of the 4/ odd gaps. Here's one reason why Im stressed out/ other side. Imagine this side + last night's demolition t'other side.. Im living like a tramp at the mo! -

Ok will try that I can get a nice low torque. I think split the difference maybe- redo 1/2 w'countersunk, take out 1/2. PolyS did stick well to plaster.. The idea I had, which now I don't know's even valid (now you've said you tiled -all- your reveal onoff.. I thought twas justs sill twds start of thread ~ pg6 so followed like a lemon!) is once the screw heads were filled, to paint reveal area simply a continuation of adjacent wall, maybe tile btm or wood sill ontop. Is painting feasable? Im a bit confused on whether Ive blindly followed a bathroom project not suitable for a kitchen (I didn't ever want to tile all 4 bits here). Anyway did a bit more than y'day I think.. -

I think some success.. thanks the lord. its not great, only fairly good but not too bad I'd hope for a 1st stab. Screws to be removed I'd think. I know onoff said to not drive full down after the mess I made 1st time, but does that mean they're specifically not meant to be driven down flush ever/ at all, into this stuff-? -

Ok I'll go back over the days' replies onoff. I must have missed some replies by sounds of it.. If I can't get notifications them I'm not as up to speed as you. Please stay with me.. I'm at my -most totally- confused right now, I'm panicking/ I cannot cope or understand a no. of things, all at once that's all. -

No.. I'm not onoff. I just can't remember what you said, & I need help right now as Im panicing its setting in the damn thing rather than trawling pages to find what you said back X. Just help me out here, please Im just not used to this new xyz stuff. I did not get that reply 2 hrs ago.. no notification at all, or Id have seen it/ I'm keeping tabs on every reply made.. but obvioiusly I have to remind myself to reload the page to get them all. Ive said this before. I still cannot understand how you're meant to use these screws/ ins PB, if doing anything but tiling.. not everyone tiles reveals. -

Tbh I'm only using them as pins to hold/ will have to remove all.. because surely cannot be left in protruding, as they all are (bar that ^ one I put in flush just to photo/ to show how this breaks the board) or it'll ruin any finish, even a skim surely is barely a mm.. Someone help me out here? -

Look sorry please just remind me here.. Ive just used the foam/ gun, its left upright. I'll next be using in say 1-1/2 hrs. What do I do now- take off & use cleaner/ clean the gun, or just the tip? or do nothing? (won't the stuff set inside the gun within this hour if so-?) -

When.. well I missed this. I'm really confused again. Please can you tell me what you did to your reveal, after this PB work.. IE did you skim, or fill here n there & paint, or tile all inside area? -

But onoff they need to be -at- or ideally to be safe a fraction -below- the surface, for skimming over or painting once filled. Surely. Both thwese options cannot be done with mine, as is. All yours are actually below, if not countersunk a good 1mm (I can see) as they must need to be. Or.. are you are saying, you're meant to leave them proud-? eh? -

Ok some success, but look same prob remains. 2nd pic shows the -max possible- a screw can be brought down before the PB edge gives. Its 1-2mm proud of the surface. 3rd pic/ ideal screw position (if not slightly shy being a mite protruding RHS).. & edge breaks: -

Yes I do mean araldite. If I use screws even 8 in total, the edges will be damaged (or the screws will be 'out'/ I can't have that) so need repairing/ strongest stuff surely. Ok that's a plan to do the sill 1st of course. Im onto the soudal site but can't find the damn product or cure time! argh!! driving me fkn nuts. -

But I can't do that.. as it'll take 2 days to do the job as I'll have to leave each section in place for ~1/2 a day to fix in. Ive no idea how to do this. -

Yup it said 15mins leave. then tho to put back on can..still confused. You have to undo the can to put the clean can on. then foam can back on. which is what i did. Anyway was gunged up badly.. but put more cleaner thru & shifted it. maybe I left more than 15mins.. godknows. I'll leave this foam can on for now as is then! it aint comin off! Right Ive cut the panels again, about 10x faster than y'day by scoring thru the eps.. had no idea it was same procedure as std PB. Im very wary about the next fixing bit again. I think I'll try one-by-one, 3 others just supporting or the foam may set too fast.1st the top, but I must find out what the cure time is for it 1st unless Ive missed the info. No screws.. i'm going to guage if fixed firm enough/ may attempt 2 at main points/ araldite the dmg edge. christ on a bike not looking fwd to 1st again.. -

Right thanks onoff. It says on the clean can to undo foam can > clean > put back on foam can. So after I use the foam on a side.. I leave the can upright, for however long I want?? so have i ruined both the can & gun then doing this?? please no.. I cant cope with this ontop. -

Ok cut through the eps side I'll try then. Yup extended craft knife/ done that, yup it is VERY different. What i did do wrong maybe, was put the 4 sections in firmly, all glued (as I thought thats what you did ) but as I had no idea the foam would set so quick/ thought it was a 24 hr thing (till no info on this.. you see my prior point now?), once Id started screws, I had no choice but continue as the top was stuck fairly firm & not in ideal position. I thought they'd help push the foam flat. I assumed too that after a few newbie screws Id get the hang > off on my way. Not so whatsoever. No seriously, the eps is such poor quality that you need every bit of it intact below the PB in order to possibly get any screw not to push the top down & dmg edge.. which it'll still do if you even as-carefully-as, drive it in flush (to every edge bar the tapered paper 2). if I do each one separately I might be able to get the odd screw in, maybe 3 a side & araldite these damaged edges. I need to do test cuts 1st. Its the materials onoff.. not me. Believe me. -

The humungus 20kg bag of compound, & roll to stretch round the earth.. & these damn screws (look fancy eh?) TP been good enough to refund for the sheet of ins PB, so that helps me retract ~a few hrs work as it were. Puts me in a better mood. A BIT. So I'm ready to start again. I will & am determined to do this reveal, today, whether just-glued alone/ mostly no screws at all (only way i can conceive of doing it) it will have to be done. I have no choice but do it, even any 1/2 decent-enough way now. One thing good.. is the strength of the foam adhesion. Whether or not I can still use that can tho is another matter.. no idea if its gunged up only trying the clean process once. I woke up fretting that it wasn't 'upside-0down' when i left it with clean stuff in & the foam can back on.. godknows. Even that was up against me last ev.. foam everywhere (the trigger VERY sensitive being a cheapo- I had a woody allen moment again albeit small scale) i thought a hideous foam ghoul might emerge at breakfast lunging at my fruit n fibre. -

This is what happens on one of the few decent screws I managed/ this was a good one: 1mm protruded head/ ie not flush, edge squashes down & starts to break.. This is NOT a tapered edge/ this was stanley knife cut w'new blade & extremely carefully too.. -

2pm-10pm of flat out work, all ripped off.. (you can see the cr*p PB/ separated section I'd cut had to be redone/ the 1st wasted hr of 8).
