  1. Some mechanical meters do run backwards.* Ofgem is very unkeen on this type of uncontrolled net metering as I understanf things, because in part your PV spill provided to the grid unbidden is not worth anything like retail rates to the grid. Some mechanical meters have a ratchet to prevent running backwards. *Some of the older unratcheted ones catch fire. Another reason not to do it. I have been through both in my installation. I now have an import/export pair, which also means I can work out what I'm actually consuming. Rgds Damon
  2. Why do you believe that a Sunamp wouldn't allow similar overcharge? Rgds Damon
  3. Gas use for the whole of April was just over 1m^3, so ~0.38kWh/day. Thus a 90% reduction in direct gas burn. Result. https://www.earth.org.uk/note-on-solar-DHW-for-16WW-UniQ-and-PV-diversion.html#2022-04-30 Rgds Damon
  4. Yes @SteamyTeaall the ratings in the EU and UK just got reset so that A means 'best' again (rather than A++++++++++++++++). Rgds Damon
  5. The meter may itself be using something getting on for that 6W... Rgds Damon
  6. I'll get a better view at the end of April, but gas use is now about 0.5kWh/day, and will go lower if I can train my family not to whack the hot tap full on for 30s use (where hot water doesn't even get to the tap!)... https://www.earth.org.uk/note-on-solar-DHW-for-16WW-UniQ-and-PV-diversion.html#2022-04-11 Also these may be of interest: https://www.earth.org.uk/eddi-diverter-dataset.html https://www.earth.org.uk/heat-battery-topup-dataset.html Rgds Damon
  7. You are meant to talk to your FiT administration before installing storage, eg to confirm whether you intend to allow exports from storage to the grid. Rgds Damon
  8. Then they are breaking the law, ie not operating VAT correctly. Rgds Damon
  9. Just for the record on this thread: the Sunamp Thermino 150 ePV and myenergi eddi are in and running, though we're not getting enough sun to give them a good workout yet! A reminder of the full write-up link: https://www.earth.org.uk/note-on-solar-DHW-for-16WW-UniQ-and-PV-diversion.html And here is a live chart to keep you all on the edge of your seats: https://www.earth.org.uk/_heat-battery-target.html Thank you all for your advice along the way! Rgds Damon
  10. In my installation I have a myenegi eddi. https://myenergi.com/product/eddi/ Rgds Damon
  11. Just had a Thermino installed in the last few days: all working out as expected so far! https://www.earth.org.uk/note-on-solar-DHW-for-16WW-UniQ-and-PV-diversion.html#2022-03-09 Rgds Damon
  12. Yes, all energy flows recorded and analysed in excruciating detail, eg: https://www.earth.org.uk/saving-electricity-2022.html Without any of the storage or PV etc we'd be a low user for gas and electricity on Ofgem's scale. Rgds Damon
  13. Our Thermino 150 ePV went in yesterday. https://www.earth.org.uk/note-on-solar-DHW-for-16WW-UniQ-and-PV-diversion.html#2022-03-09 This evening after dark, my daughter had a shower and my son had a bath. All but a fraction of a kWh of the DHW covered from the Thermino: the combi cut in for the last couple of minutes of the bath fill. Since we also turned our central heating off the day before, I'm hoping that our gas consumption will be much much less than usual this month onwards, at least until circa September. Rgds Damon
  14. I have Enphase: https://www.earth.org.uk/Enphase-AC-Battery-REVIEW.html Rgds Damon
  15. You might have an opportunity during this process to choose new rads that allow your existing (or a new) heat source to run lower-carbon too. Rgds Damon
  16. The Sunamp's own control supply must be permanently wired. The Sunamp's heater supply should be via something like a myenergi eddi for diversion. I will also be using the eddi under software control to top-up 'off-peak' in winter mainly. See my lengthy page above. You will need different a Sunamp model if you want to provide a second (non-electric) heat source to it. Rgds Damon
  17. That's good for maximising summer (and overall) generation in the UK with south-facing panels. If you want to have the least short-fall / best putput in winter then the optimum angle is much nearer vertical as described above for south facing, or likely much nearer horizontal if facing other than fairly south. Rgds Damon
  18. I have now preconfigured my eddi (the sparks is not due for a couple of weeks) and have regular logging set up: https://www.earth.org.uk/note-on-solar-DHW-for-16WW-UniQ-and-PV-diversion.html#2022-02-06 Rgds Damon
  19. Yes, for off grid. Output is good considering location, but half what it might be because in shadow from the house until nearly noon. Rgds Damon https://www.earth.org.uk/expanding-off-grid-PV-system.html#20160722
  20. I have plonked down some (electronic) cash and have ordered a Thermino 150 today: https://www.earth.org.uk/note-on-solar-DHW-for-16WW-UniQ-and-PV-diversion.html#2022-02-04 Rgds Damon
  21. My earth.org.uk host is my primary place for putting anything substantial, and I do post links in here when I think there is something interesting to see, but I don't want to annoy everyone! Rgds Damon
  22. This has moved on another step: I now have the myenergi eddi and hub, and I've started writing some of the control software to allow top-up at low grid carbon intensities in the wee hours in the winter... https://www.earth.org.uk/note-on-solar-DHW-for-16WW-UniQ-and-PV-diversion.html#2022-01-26 and here is a live display of that top-up (there is also a log) which updates at least every 10 minutes: https://www.earth.org.uk/_heat-battery-target.html Rgds Damon
  23. I've been posting here, intermittently. Life has been getting in the way. Articles like the thermal imaging one are intended to be informational rather than selling anything. What more should I do (or have done) to get them to people who would benefit? Rgds Damon
  24. FWIW my installation is finally back on track and I've written about half the control system, see the status page here: https://www.earth.org.uk/_heat-battery-target.html (I may have chosen the wrong place to split the control problem, in which case a re-think and re-write will be on the cards!) Rgds Damon

    Humidity

Lots of sources claim 30% to 70% RH is the ideal range. You can have screeds of data from my house if you wish (it's published) but ours is quite high (eg around the top end of that) much of the winter. Note: measured at the TRV, ie close to the floor, next to the rad. Rgds Damon
