  1. My earth.org.uk host is my primary place for putting anything substantial, and I do post links in here when I think there is something interesting to see, but I don't want to annoy everyone! Rgds Damon
  2. This has moved on another step: I now have the myenergi eddi and hub, and I've started writing some of the control software to allow top-up at low grid carbon intensities in the wee hours in the winter... https://www.earth.org.uk/note-on-solar-DHW-for-16WW-UniQ-and-PV-diversion.html#2022-01-26 and here is a live display of that top-up (there is also a log) which updates at least every 10 minutes: https://www.earth.org.uk/_heat-battery-target.html Rgds Damon
  3. I've been posting here, intermittently. Life has been getting in the way. Articles like the thermal imaging one are intended to be informational rather than selling anything. What more should I do (or have done) to get them to people who would benefit? Rgds Damon
  4. FWIW my installation is finally back on track and I've written about half the control system, see the status page here: https://www.earth.org.uk/_heat-battery-target.html (I may have chosen the wrong place to split the control problem, in which case a re-think and re-write will be on the cards!) Humidity

Lots of sources claim 30% to 70% RH is the ideal range. You can have screeds of data from my house if you wish (it's published) but ours is quite high (eg around the top end of that) much of the winter. Note: measured at the TRV, ie close to the floor, next to the rad. Rgds Damon
  6. The postman will tell you...
  7. I beg to differ. One of my more interesting clients, when I ran an ISP, decided that he was bored with us and moved to Demon (many many years ago), and took them for £100k as I recall. I think the key issue is editorial control. If the council (or whoever) decides that something is OK and *chooses* to publish it, then they may be liable. Rgds Damon
  8. Updated page for the last round of Enphase storage install, including the modified load profile: https://www.earth.org.uk/Enphase-AC-Battery-3-4.html Rgds Damon
  9. At the time I don't think JPEGs existed, and it was USENET ASCII art sex pictures (often involving animals) that caused me a certain amount of bandwidth grief... Rgds Damon
  10. Agreed with Steamy here... I used to have a continuous load about half of yours, partly from still running an ISP: https://www.earth.org.uk/saving-electricity.html#2007-07 In the end I squeezed everything I needed into a Raspberry Pi (well, I'm being extravagant and using two at the moment!) and it has run completely off-grid for over a decade, by drawing ~2W. Rgds Damon
  11. FWIW I power my Internet router off-grid, though at this time of year it's quite tough (typical domestic router is 12V @ 1A, ie 12W, or ~0.5kWh/d). https://www.earth.org.uk/battery-bank-replacement.html The primary jof of that bank is to keep my servers off-grid all the time, which has been for >> 10 years. Right now the router (the 'dump' load) is back on mains. http://www.earth.org.uk/_off-grid-stats.html Rgds Damon
  12. FYI: https://www.mortgageintroducer.com/nationwide-epc-ratings-house-price-premium/ https://www.whatmortgage.co.uk/news/how-boosting-energy-efficiency-can-add-up-to-40k-to-your-home/ Rgds Damob
  13. 10l per second per person seems a reasonable goal, including for covid! We are managing (though with humdity somewhat too high) on about 10l/s/p for *four* of us. You should defintiely NOT be worried about Oxygen levels I suspect! https://www.earth.org.uk/MHRV-mechanical-heat-recovery-ventilation.html Rgds Damon
  14. As of today I have gone from ~1.25kWh of ac-coupled Enphase storage ("AC Battery") in early September to ~5kWh today. (Well, configuration isn't complete, but the physical installation is done.) This is for science in the sense that I'm pretty sure that this is larger than optimal, especially in winter, but I want to found out if that is evident from the stats. Rgds Damon
  15. Ha! One step in the right direction! I had the Combimate fitted today (within a couple of hours of the package arriving!): https://www.earth.org.uk/note-on-solar-DHW-for-16WW-UniQ-and-PV-diversion.html#2021-10-11 Rgds Damon
  16. In case it is useful as a data point, my family of four in London uses per year ~2MWh electricity (gross, ie ignoring our PV, import is about half that), ~2MWh space heat and ~1MWh DHW both currently gas. Heated floor space 76m^2. So to me 12MWh total, even just using crude electric resistance heating, feels high, allowing for London vs up north (I haven't lived north of Edinburgh though). Conservation is by far the cheapest energy source. Rgds Damon
  17. Octopus just got another $800m or so in funding in the last few days, AFAIK. So you be able to cover your supply for a bit if you notch down the Jacuzzi temperature...
  18. Not at all. Carrying internal loads to avoid/reduce imports from the grid is what mine do, ie increase self-consumption. Rgds Damon
  19. You will need the permission of the FiT administrator to connect it, and if you are being paid an export tariff (non-deemed) you would additional need to satisfy the administrator that there will be no export from the battery to the grid. IMHO. Rgds Damon PS. I have PV plus separate storage for the grid (and other off-grid): https://www.earth.org.uk/img/PV/Enphase-Energy-Storage-Diagram.pdf
  20. No, though they are probably available, given that the manufacturers are reputable (Victron and Enphase). Rgds Damon
  21. For anyone interested, I also increased grid-coupled storage by ~1kWh, and it seems to be strutting its stuff so far: https://www.earth.org.uk/Enphase-AC-Battery-2.html Rgds Damon
  22. Given all the covid delays, and the fact that I finally got done two electrical storage updates this month (on- and off- grid), I now want to reschedule my heat battery plans for Feb/Mar/Apr next year: https://www.earth.org.uk/note-on-solar-DHW-for-16WW-UniQ-and-PV-diversion.html Any suggestions as to who might be happy to do an install etc? I'd probably ask Sunamp for a unit with stats available (if such a thing is possible) so that I can integrate it better with the rest of my storage and monitoring. So I'd be a technically-savvy but inquisitive client needing schematics etc! Rgds Damon
  23. It's all done and installed, thanks for the advice! https://www.earth.org.uk/battery-bank-replacement.html Rgds Damon
  24. Protective elements in the iMac power supply absorbing nasties injected into the mains by the electric fence box? You are likely incrementally damaging the iMac and any other electronics (including LEDs) on that supply. I would take one or the other off that supply ASAP, at least temporarily, and get something like a UPS in front of your iMac to take one for the team. Rgds Daon
