  1. It’s a product specifically designed for exactly this situation. I’ve used it many times and with excellent results. I did an old gravity to sealed and pressurised conversion and found water dripping from a ceiling downstairs. Was one of 4 pipes, 28mm, in a totally inaccessible place ( safe dropping the ceiling ) which had a floorboards nail completely through it. Had sealed itself with crud over the 30+ years it had been in. As soon as we filled the new system up, all great, then fired it up on max to get it all warmed through, and then it leaked like a bugger. One can of Sentinel later, and you could literally here the drips slow down over 20-30 mins and then stop. Client agreed to the fix and not heard a peep since ( north of 5 years ago ). Dont waste money on the call out.
  2. Losing .4 over 2 months is not a huge leak. If you have a magnetic filter then try the Fernox or Semtinel leak sealer products as that will end your turmoil in one day. Likelihood is that it’s an evaporation leak; eg when the system heats up a joint / other weeps a timely amount but it’s hot so it evaporates and never manifests as a visible drip. Real pita to find those types of leaks as they could be anywhere. Leak sealer is the way forward here, as it’ll seek and seal regardless of where. If no mag filter, maybe add to a towel radiator.

  4. Unless the UFH pipes are directly under the finished floor, in aluminium spreader plates or other such purpose made diffuser, this is not going to improve ever. Ive seen umpteen ‘builder executed’ UFH fack-ups, including UFH pipes just loose under the floors in the joist voids, boiler set at 80oC and TMV set to max flow temp etc. It’s really unbelievable that anyone thinks they can just throw this in ( especially when it is a heat pump install ) and it’ll work. This is a ‘floor up’ job by the sounds of it.
  5. Get the new Selco d feed in from the CU, and ask the sparky to make it off to a 16a wall mount socket. Ask him to then make the ASHP > immersion cable off into a second one. Then ask him to connect that immersion to a 16a plug. Then, if you have problems, you just unplug from the ASHP and plug into the new radial feed.

  10. Immersions are usually stand alone. Follow the wire as above, and support your findings with pics if possible. The cylinder stat is cabled to the ashp / controls so are you confusing the two?

  12. Can be 6 and two 3’s tbh. Pre plumbed has a lot of gear in one tight footprint. Depends on fitter and where it’s being located / service access etc.

  14. You could have a second CU loaded with the RCBO’s of the ‘danger circuits’ and have a switch that isolates the power to that CU via a BFO contactor. You can then use a strategically positioned matching light switch as the emergency cut off. Barking mad though, all the same ?
  15. The newest model ( internal ctrls ) seems to have a lot of wrinkles ironed out, but the units with external ctrls are still being revisited or even outright replaced. I know of 4 such cases since before Xmas, with one gone nuclear and it spewing out all the PCM SA were quick to respond, positively, and I had an honest explanation from their new technical chap which made a lot of sense. Perhaps the recognition and subsequent rectification of these issues is the cause for the not inconsequential uplift of the purchase cost. Been a long time coming, but hopefully the new units are a reliable iteration. Only time will tell I suppose ?

  18. Check with the sparky about exporting the earths. What will be the distances between the MET and the final CPC connections at all CU’s? PME?
  19. Bath water has a lot of gravity assistance, showers need to have free-flowing discharge as they have next to no gravity to help get things gone. Agree, get them to pull it out and do as the MI’s suggest, even more so if two showers are on one unit
  20. 50mm every time. It’s big enough to create an air break over the discharging water / suds, whereas 40mm often won’t discharge anywhere near as free-flowing as with 50mm as the entire bore fills with water / suds and stalls. Makes a huge difference if there is even as little as 1000mm or so of horizontal run.
  21. Can you upload a sketch of the waste pipework and show where your AAV is fitted? Also, you can get anti-siphon ( AAV ) traps for sinks and baths, so there may be some easier fixes available before you go to the lengths of adding a vent to atmosphere.
