  1. We used this on our oak stairs https://osmouk.com/product/polyx-oil-tints/ you also get a raw version. Seems to work well.
  2. I've never seen the ability to respond to a comment in a planning portal, only put in a new comment. I would ignore it and let the planning officer deal with it, they will most likely ignore it as well. Objections from neighbours etc have to be considered but they carry very little weight.
  3. Push button release toilet seats so you can take them off to clean and a wall hung pan seems to make a difference. As does sitting down for a pee when you've had more than one or two drinks.
  4. We also have a Daikin, I've found that having the temp down to 42decC has knocked quite a bit of our usage and we've not really noticed the drop in temp for showers etc. We're using 3Kwh per day for hot water and that's with two of us, including one who seems to think she's a mermaid given the time she spends in the shower.
  5. This is exactly what we did, I say we, it was really my wife. Knowing the local authority policies back to front meant that she could counter any arguments based on policy. It took a while and a bit of work but it was relatively painless. We still get the "how the hell did you get permission to build here" comments. Excellent document.
  6. This is what I was thinking. Samsung technical support said you did need a shelf but looking at the measurements the main oven is exactly the same height as the compact and warming drawer combined.
  7. I had this with electric supplu when they wanted to upgrade the transformer on neighbours land. They started off with "we have the legal right, he can't stop us" etc, which then went to, "you'll have to route from another one 200m away crossing fields and a stream". to finally, aw f@*%k the transformer will probably be fine.
  8. I’m finally getting my Samsung infinite compact combination microwave oven and a warming drawer, after ordering and paying for it in January. I’m going to install it as a stack in a kitchen tower and I can’t find out whether the oven needs to sit on a shelf or can it just sit right on the top of the warming drawer? From the pictures I’ve seen on the Samsung website I can't see a shelf and can't see that there would be room for one. Any thoughts?
  9. In my experience the guys that cleared up after themselves did a better job, spent a lot less time hunting for tools and did not lose things. That 15 mins tidying at the end of the day was well spent. The ones that left crap all over the place were the ones that had to redo things and were never off their f@*$ing phones.
  10. I'm not sure if that is feasible but I would highly recommend giving Ecology a call and talking it over with them, they are excellent to deal with.
  11. I'm not 100% sure as the builders took little care when doing anything but I think it's happened in use.
  12. The pane that slides is 1604 x 2088 and I think about 150Kg so it would have definitely been taken out as it's on the first floor. The ones downstairs are exactly the same, I don't think I would think it as being stiff if we did not have those to compare. To be honest it's marginal and my wife thinks I'm being nit picking. I have notice that there are scuff marks on the cill that makes me think that the leading edge as you close is rubbing, there are none at the other side.
  13. I think they are really good, it's just that the ones on our balcony feel a bit stiff compared to the other set, I think it's down to fitters. Yes it is, never noticed the label before, I'll give them a call, thanks.
  14. Anyone know how to adjust the rollers on Rationel Auraplus sliding patio doors? I can't see any obvious adjustment or find any instructions. Thanks you kindly
  15. I would try and have a conversation with building control before your do anything, ours were pretty helpful. I would not be thrilled being that close to a soakaway, even if I had some sort of control over it. If it's old or badly designed:
  16. I was genuinely surprised at how long some of the guys on my build spent on their phones. Including in once case while operating a Manitou with their boss in a man cage 8 meters off the deck. They were never pulled up on it by the foreman.
  17. We have a programmer who is a really big lad, he normally has the camera off but did accidently switch it on during a company meeting while he was sitting naked at his desk. He scrambled to switch it off, there is complete silence until an anonymous voice just says, "nice tits". Meeting then goes on as if nothing has happened.
  18. We put down Propolex sheets taped together. It's basically black corrugated plastic. I think it was under £2 per sqm. Did the job.
  19. I found that letters and emails tended not to work, we only had success when we actually talked to landowners face to face or on the phone.
  20. Looks nice.
  21. Nothing ever is
  22. We have no mains gas but a pretty much unlimited supply of free logs.
  23. This is about the level I was thinking. @johnMo who did you use?
  24. Do you mind me asking what kind of price the install was? We've not got round to putting one in yet but a mate had some quotes in our area and they were north of £8k for the install alone.
  25. From the plumbers PoV it hasn’t been paid once Has he said he will accept the £1500 and walk away? Tis crap, oh well. True. Not that it should matter but this is not a one man band, it's a reasonable sized outfit. Not heard anything yet and to be honest the £1,500 was quite steep for the work that was actually done.
