Of course the halfway point is easy when you look back because you know how much you spent. At the outset my halfway point should have been at about 110k but as I went over budget by 40k for reasons that couldn’t have been envisaged at the start, or even at the halfway point, I wasn’t halfway until I had spent 130k. 40k over budget in total, mostly labour costs.

Can't you have wall hung in the bathroom you will use most often if you prefer it, and have back to wall for the rest? -
It will be hard to compare as everyone will do things in a slightly different order. We built a large garage towards the end of the build and put an extra room on the back. Other people will probably build their garage at the start. And my husband did quite a lot of the labour beyond the watertight stage whereas we had a builder to put the main structure up so it's difficult to make a like for like comparison. However if you do want one we hit half way after the timber frame and insulation were complete, the roof was done, blockwork and rendering were complete, windows and doors were in, first fix electrics were well on the way and we had bought the UFH kit (but hadn't installed it at that stage). Circa 100k was vat reclaimable materials (excl the vat), and circa 30k labour and hire of plant / scaffolding at the halfway (in terms of costs only!) point.

Materials or labour too?

Don’t the overflows tend to be on the side of reversible sinks?

I thought the summer bypass just bypassed the air being brought into the house being heated? Might be wrong ..... The loft wasn't boarded to get to the unit or install it. I'm pretty sure hubby just walked along the joists just as he did when he installed the downlighters and the loft lights. The difference being that there is no way I will be walking along the joists to get to a unit that looks as if it's going to be at ground level in an area with no headroom . And I'm with you - I don't know why the lofts aren't boarded by default. Our old loft was (hubby did that) so why not this one, especially as there is something up there that needs to be accessed. Maybe I could just shove a few boards up there and nail them down roughly? Dunno. I could probably do that down the middle where the access is clear but what the hell do I do here? That switch attached to the wood and the lead that comes out of it will lead to where the unit will be I think.

I have a TV as it was on 24x7 when hubby was around but I haven’t switched it on since the Olympics in 2016. I do occasionally watch TV programmes on the laptop on catch up but that’s only so I can pause it when I get bored, do something different and then go back to it later on. I can’t concentrate on a TV show for a whole hour lol.

I don't watch TV really either. Attention span is too low for most TV programmes . Youtube is fine as that's generally only 5 mins a shot .

That's about 80% of the time in my experience . It'll all work out ok in the end but you have to let go with what's past as you can't change it. For the time being the world will be a bit rocky but if you can weather the storm the sun will come out again. It'll take time though - won't be instant, so hang on in there! -

Personally I can put up with a lot if the price is right and the end result gets me what I want . And don’t forget, most people write reviews when they have bad service, not many take the time to write them for good service. -
You know blokes never compromise on size . Nothing comes between a bloke and his big ...... tele! ? or the bloody TV remote!

Different models aren’t they? @joe90 went for the Rubi Star one by the looks of things. Screwfix sells them both.

Maybe the reviews are based on people ordering too late and then kicking off about it? If you order in plenty of time and check everything as it arrives then you should have enough time to absorb any delays. Pay by credit card, or at least a deposit if possible. -
Don’t think so as all of yours is marked up (like a good boy). It has something written above it that implies it’s for this. So so I did my little experiment. Off at CU fan noise stops. Switched off at wall, fan sounds the same as when it’s switched on at the wall so the switch does nowt, does something different, or does summer bypass. Now how to tell? Whatever it does, or not, it’s clear that the unit has been on for 9 years and counting.

He could wear that that rubber suit up there. I’m sure that’ll be good for the sauna effect or sumit . I’m sure it was switched on for a few years tbh. My plan for ascertaining whether the switch in the boiler room was for power to the unit or just summer bypass was a bit more simple than tracing wires. It goes like this. Turn off MVHR at the CU. Listen to see if fan stops. Switch back on and ensure fan is running again. Then turn off the switch in the boiler room. If the fan is still running then it’s the summer bypass switch, if not it’s the switch for the main unit. Thoughts?
