How to use current house to finance self build.
newhome replied to Tony99's topic in Self Build Mortgages
I think I said it was to release funds to finance a second home, never mentioned self build. They may be more cautious these days I guess since the banking crisis as it was a while ago. I remortgaged in 2009 with C&G. I wanted 80% LTV and they would only give me 75%. That was based on the reason for the loan not affordability. I had no mortgage on the property so had 100% equity. In the event I could have got away with not remortgaging as the house sold before my savings ran out but it was close and I didn’t want to be in the position where I couldn’t afford to continue as I had run out of funds. If you can’t find a lender who will do this for you maybe go via a broker but don’t apply and then get rejected as it will then affect your credit score. -
Shows your age because it has been Oil of Olay for about 20 years!

Yes, goes hand in hand with most mainstream house building too as you mentioned in another post. Unfortunately trades who work on mainstream stuff seem to think they can get away with that standard of work when it's a private job too and someone's pride and joy. Tell them to come back and sort it or you'll post photos of their work on all the local Facebook sites .

The Build - Insulation ahead of 1st Fix - UPDATE
newhome commented on Redoctober's blog entry in Our Journey North of the Border
It could be like mine and have neither pug mix nor plates ? -
Thanks. The hubby had sets and sets of the damn things. Christ knows where they all are. There are 2 adjustables but they look huge. I will go back into the cavern of hell garage and have another look. Another cheap and cheerful Amazon purchase seems appropriate to ensure that I have full sets of these things going forward. Would this be any good for once in a blue moon stuff? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Amtech-K0400-Combination-Spanner-11-Piece/dp/B008G0HWX4/ref=sr_1_6?s=diy&ie=UTF8&qid=1532166433&sr=1-6&keywords=spanner+set

What affects the value of a static caravan?
newhome replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Yes that sounds quite reasonable. Do you have to pay council tax with a static? I don't think you do with a tourer although we were paying council tax on 2 different homes anyway when my hubby was using the caravan so they got their pound of flesh. -
Next problem. It’s attached to this plastic thing at the front. I’ve unscrewed it from the unit but can’t get the plastic collar thing to let go unless anyone has any ideas. Then I thought I would just unscrew the nut. Never used a spanner before so went in search of one. Found one that says 13/16 one end and I think it says 11/16 the other end but one is too big and the other too small. Looks like I may need to buy one the right size if I can work out what it needs.

My nails are sharp. You wouldn’t be smiling ? Thank you so much for that. I was frantically googling for the flush thing too but couldn’t find one like it.

Both FIT AND export payments to be cancelled next year
newhome replied to Jeremy Harris's topic in Photovoltaics (PV)
That’s what I’m debating as I consider installing an ASHP here. RHI should provide £9100 return over 7 years and the government provides interest free loans so on the surface it seems like a decent deal, although clearly I am taking a gamble that the electricity savings will benefit me as I don’t intend to be here for 7 years. The biggest hurdle to overcome? Getting someone who wants to install one ??? -

newhome replied to Jeremy Harris's topic in Photovoltaics (PV)
My brother collects classic motorbikes but still has PV ?. He got the original FIT though so probably better value. He just paid 5k!!! for a FS1E for his son and was gutted he hadn’t kept his own from back in the day when they were peanuts. Who can ever predict how these things will go though. -
Lux or Camay? Don’t worry there are plenty of episodes left to go. You’ll need more snacks than one small box of popcorn. ??????

Tried that. The water starts syphoning out into the loo before it reaches that point as in here, and the water keeps rising.
-
I’ve ‘fixed’ the lever thing I think. Photo 1 is all the way anti clockwise and photo 2 all the way clockwise. Photo 2 is better but still about the same as when I started ?
-
Yes that’s different from the one upstairs here and I’ve clearly screwed that up as I think it was in that position earlier.
-
So, turned all the way anti-clockwise in photo 1. Water peeing out. Turned all the way clockwise and it’s better but still leaking out the same as when I started. Friday night, sitting backwards on a bog in my first plumbing ‘twatclass’ having only ever connected up a dishwasher previously. Oh I know how to live . Come on guys I need a bit of pee taking (pun intended) to keep me going, or are you all in the land of nod ?

I've bloody looked too, and well before I started this post, but the bloody Geberit is the only one I can find. WTF I still have 4 bogs I can flush - I've only wrecked 2 .
-
Probably. Every day's a school day . You only learn if you screw things up - well it works for me that way anyway . It wasn't working right anyway so I figured I couldn't make it worse. Then again ...
-
The thing screwed back in ok I think, well it’s no longer loose anyway but the water is still pissing leaking out. Tried turning that thing both ways but still no joy.
-
Both I understand ...

The Build - Insulation ahead of 1st Fix - UPDATE
newhome commented on Redoctober's blog entry in Our Journey North of the Border
Same for me. I can recount endless things I would have, should have done differently and I will share them all here if it helps those who come after, plus I am getting endless help with the bits that have turned into a nightmare too. Pay it forward is how it all works here. There is no shame in asking for help, the only shame is not sharing what you learned. I am really enjoying your warts and all blog and you are creating something wonderful at the same time. -
All going to plan? Exciting times!

I’ve had voddy, 3 in fact. All will be well now
