So you’ve rather complicated it for yourself having the work invoiced to your builder. I think you will get away with reclaiming the VAT on the supply of the kitchen as noted above but a 3rd party has ordered the supply and fit of the worktops so that muddies the water a bit. It’s still worth another go however as the work on a new build should have been zero rated. I assume you’ve simply spoken to someone in the shop? Forget them, and contact head office with an email explaining that supply and fit work on a new build property should be zero rated and point them at VAT Notice 708 Section 11. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/buildings-and-construction-vat-notice-708#section11 If you can’t find a contact write a comment on their Facebook page (you’ll probably have to randomly comment on one of their posts as others have done) and you should get a response from them. Failing that write to the CEO Andrew Livingston.

I think that’s probably because they are always busy and it’s not worth their while going off piste in terms of what they generally offer for a single build. They can offer a U value of 0.11 via one of their standard offerings.

Driveway & VAT?
newhome replied to unclerussty's topic in Self Build VAT, Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), S106 & Tax
Tarmac, gravel, and turf are noted here (amongst other things) so you can reclaim the vat if you buy the materials directly (or conversely get the work zero rated if someone else does the work). https://www.gov.uk/guidance/goods-and-services-you-can-claim-for-under-the-vat-diy-scheme#D It’s also noted within VAT Notice 708 that you can point your builder at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/buildings-and-construction-vat-notice-708#para3-3-4 -
Driveway & VAT?

Yes definitely should be zero rated. All hard landscaping, turf (not plants unless detailed in the PP), and boundary fencing qualify. -
Buy in haste, repent at leisure : ElectriQ dishwasher
newhome replied to ToughButterCup's topic in Kitchen Units & Worktops
Mine did that before the door was fitted (not an ElectriQ however). It’s perfectly ok now though. I put in the new dishwasher but I didn’t want to screw the integral door up so waited for the joiner to come and sort. -
For products fulfilled by Amazon it’s the same, plus sometimes when something’s on offer you can order it at that price when it’s out of stock and it arrives once it’s available if you don’t mind waiting. I quite often do that. You can always cancel before the item is dispatched anyway. The item quite often arrives before the estimated date IME.

We had a large touring caravan already so this became the hubby and dogs’ home for 9 months. I had a rental apartment 2 mins from the office but I went back to the site at weekends. I couldn’t have coped personally with living full time in the caravan whilst trying to get ready for the office each day, but my hubby wanted to be on site plus we would have struggled to get a rental with pets. Hubby used to drive me back to the rental on a Sunday night, have a decent bath instead of the poxy little caravan shower, and then we would have a meal out or go to the cinema for a bit of normality. The touring caravan wasn’t that cold. We had blown air heating, a gas fire and electric blankets. I was however grateful for the rental apartment when the weather was like this!

Where do you find a DraughtBuster? Sounds like something my door needs. I’ve fiddled with the striker / keeper but it only serves to make the door difficult to close. I can feel a draught when the wind gets up.

Green Home Grant application - have you had a response?

Original message. I’ve uploaded a video of what we listen to most of the year. Been like this several years now - only slowly getting worse. I usually manage to get to February before I’m spitting blood, now I’ve had enough in early December. Rural village. Conservation area. No PP was applied for. I ‘think’ I know install company. I did some calling round last winter. Very off hand and defensive over the phone. Fence. Six foot ultra close boarded (double) window triple glazed on drive. Adjoining living room. Conservatory virtually unusable - unless you like the sound of living in an industrial estate. So, far my wallet if £1.5K lighter with fence and window. Other side of fence owner has lined the fence with sound insulation. We have had dialogue over the issue. Probably installers have suggested this. It has made a marginal difference. Before it was 52-54DBa one metre from window. One anonymous complaint has already been lodged by a neighbour (not me, it’s not my style), never has been. We live in a beautiful property overlooking fields behind us. Honest- we have come to the conclusion our lovely home would be unsalable in the present circumstances. NIMBY I’m not. I’m as easy going as an easy going person. But, surely this cannot be right? Any helpful suggestions would be very much appreciated. I’ve had several suggestions -quite a few non legal if you get my drift...

Hope this isn’t normal .... https://www.facebook.com/100014753527643/videos/1038971309937977/? Not sure if this link will work for everyone. This is the next door neighbour’s video complaining about someone’s ASHP. Permission given to share the video.

It does, but it also takes longer to lose heat too IME. I only run mine for about an hour and a half each day (early morning) to get it up to temperature again and that works fine. The temperature drops very little during the day so I don’t notice a small temperature change. If I’ve been away and the system has been switched off for quite a few days then yes it takes several hours to heat up.

And probably a few that even you haven’t heard of @Onoff! ? Mods at the ready ?

See what you’ve started @jimmyhorns. The fannys in this forum have popped up at the mere mention of gynaecology ?. Anyway, welcome. Isn’t that what Adam Kay was training to be?

Yep! My 3rd quote has come in at 11.5k which is nearer the mark but I’m worried that the ASHP in that quote is under sized. In fact between the 3 quotes the most expensive has an ASHP which is 10kW higher than the lowest one! A bit worrying given that they surely should be using similar processes to calculate the model needed? ?

Conspiracy theory? I don’t know who ‘some people’ are but it’s definitely not the management team here. Absolutely no one knows why he stopped posting unless ‘some people’ are a different group. My (personal) theory is that it coincided with someone else being brought onboard to help with the system admin load (at Jeremy’s request). Once that was done maybe he decided to take some time out and found other things to occupy his mind? Who knows because the FMG don’t know either. I write this only because people seem to be adding 2 and 2 and making 5 or 6. There has been no great drama. Not that I am aware of anyway!

Green Home Grant application - have you had a response?
newhome replied to joth's topic in Environmental Building Politics
Allegedly there are 40,000 applications to the GHG scheme and 400 vouchers have been approved so far ? -
You have your thermometer now so record all of the room temperatures before they come, write them down and show them to the guys. Then ask why you can’t get the rooms to an acceptable temperature, in particular the new bedroom that has better insulation than the older part of the house. Ask them what grant scheme it was installed under as you believe that it may not have been sized correctly for a house of your size and construction. Maybe write down all of your issues in a bullet point list so that you can just hand them the list. Not bundles of info, just a single statement highlighting each issue. Share your list here before Friday and the tech guys on here can see whether it hits the mark.
