I got a cheap one from Lidl. I would not worry too much about precision and accuracy, you will be using it as a comparator i.e. is this bit hotter than that bit.

Reminds me of Mousetrap

There are VAT implications leaving it too late.

I am currently making some shelves, for under the stairs. They will only be 300mm deep, but part of them is going to be hinged so that I can hide stuff behind (scaffold tower and bicycle or two). Not thought too hard about the mass on them, just going to rely on a bit of overengineering.

Alternative broadband supplier questions

Strange, usually we stop on a red light, but sometimes it means go, or on. Must account for the twats that cross the road when their sign is red, they are in a hurry to get down onto the dock area. -

I was around in the 60s, in Holland. When the girls were not working, and my parents wanted a night out, they came around and did the child minding. Very liberal family. -

I am nowhere near a hub. Just me and the Atlantic Ocean, and the smell of Newlyn, which is like a Hull brothel at closing time. -

Thought I would check my speed. I am out at the moment. Pretty poor. I think my life will be unaffected though. -
Have you looked for a local Weather Underground station. That may help you prove it? You could of course log your own conditions, but you may have to spend 50 quid to get the kit. If you did get some decent weather data, and it was not different from mine, what would you do then?

One day I am going to be trapped in it, so far it has only been minor delays.
-
Sadly not, they don't fill the car up. Takes me over an hour to get to the border between Cornwall and Devon. Shows how far away I am from the rest of the country.
-
Shame you are not a bit closer, looks like I am in for a quiet winter. So better ask away.

We're abouts in the country are you?

How much water do you use - Is my water usage high?
SteamyTea replied to Adsibob's topic in General Plumbing
Checked mine the other day worked out at 140 Lt/day. Considering there is only me, yours seems reasonable. But I do like wallowing in a bath. Well I did, cost if electricity and the cost of water (have I ever mentioned I have the most expensive in the country), I am doing short showers, in luke warm water, just waiting till I can shiver myself dry. Saves washing a towel. -
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_drain Seems like a good solution.
-
I don't know much about grass, except it grows on poor soil quite well. If the area is not too large, and you are considering a French drain around the edge, why not also put in land drains, they are only pipes with holes on them, surrounded by stones. I really don't know what I am talking about, but fields around here have them as we get a lot of rain.

Hi. I'm a complete beginner confused self-builder!!!

Welcome. A house can look the same, or different, irrespective of construction type. So don't get hung up of that aspect. Energy usage is down to two main things, insulation levels and air tightness. OK 4 things if you take the size and form into account. One advantage of factory build timber frame houses is that they tend to be higher quality as they are made using jigs and better tooling. The best an onside builder has is a wonky straightedge and his grandfathers spirit level. Don't get hung up on kitchens and bathrooms, they are simple things to change, some on here have paid more for them that my house costs. Also don't get to involved in heating systems, design a house to be low energy usage and it really does not matter what sort of system you put in, it will use little energy. What part of Essex, there are the nice bits, and then there is the Thames Estuary, which I still have a soft spot for. -
Probably, I am 'doing some work' so door open and it is a bit breezy. Inside was 21°C and 63% RH. when I started.
-
Yes, it is the easier way to do it as well.. As I type this, 10:15AM 4th Oct 2022 the dewpoint is only 1.6°C lower than the air temperature, that is what 90% RH does.

I was going to post that, but thought it a step too far. @Kelvin and @Radian have the right idea about something spinning, seen one to and it was fun. I am sure with a cheap projector, a mirror and some acrylic sheet, something different could be projected onto it and look impressive.
