Simple way to check for heat loss is to put a thermometer on the cylinder. Then work out the power loss from the temp difference and surface area.

You have never kept fish then. My first tank had an airlift filter, oh how I yearned for a proper pumped one.

Not like my house I hope. The light switch is not near the main door, but on the opposite wall. Probably designed that way by an architect, who knew he would never live in the place.

I cannot see any advantage in this LV idea. If it is to save money, buy one less device, or cut showering time by 10 seconds. 8 Copper has an embodied energy between 30 and 90 MJ/kg. Taking the lowest EE and assuming you put in 5 kg of copper, that is 42 kWh. Now my phone has a 5 AH battery. So 0.025 kWh. Or, before system losses, I would have to charge it 1700 hours to pay back the energy debt, that is about 2.5 months. I doubt it has had that much charging in its, so far, 4 year life.

True, except for everything. You not got a MacSalvors near you, though you are not too far from a Jim's Tackle.

Not been into, or even though, Truro for years now. I am told they have a Cafe Nero there.

It may have that capability, does not mean it is used. Hate to say it @patp, but I suspect you missed the boat on the last year's exports. Just bite the bullet and get a proper contract with them, they seem to be offering the best rates. There is ideology and there is pragmatism. Go for the latter when money is involved.

Welcome. No mention of improving the insulation levels and airtightness. I have had 2 Victorian terraces and one Victorian semi. All horrible to work on and all built differently. Like QE2 V lived a long time.

Preparing for an air tight test

Better than regulations, and almost good enough to get an advantage from MVHR. Do you know where the major leaks were? Can then be rectified? -

Building for dummies, project 1, woodshed
SteamyTea replied to Grian's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Yes, a half decent drill is well worth considering. I have a cheap Screwfix Titan drill , pretty good for general DIY. https://www.screwfix.com/p/titan-tti886drs-18v-2-x-2-0ah-li-ion-txp-cordless-drill-driver/328PV A tape measure, some sort of straight edge, a set square are also useful, and some drill bits (Middle of Lidl). If you remember your school physics, triangulation is useful. -

Just go for it. If it fails, work out why, then try again. It is only a woodshed. -
Are freezers like pianos and women. If they are not upright, they are grand.

Alternative broadband supplier questions

Post the old one back to them, but without any stamps on it. -
@LeanTwo Are you looking to improve something i.e. flow rate on shower, or just looking to change an old broken system? There is little difference between a properly set up vented or unvented system thermally (though others will argue against this). The physics is the same i.e. pump x amount of water at y°C will be your power deliver, store x amount of water at Δy°C is your energy.

Think most DC cable for PV is rated up to 1000V, though most are calculated on 600V these days. It may be buried in this old standard. https://www.bre.co.uk/filelibrary/pdf/rpts/Guide_to_the_installation_of_PV_systems_2nd_Edition.pdf

PV panels no battery, off-grid? Doomsday planning(!)

Yes, but just had to say it, boredom was kicking in after a long, 6 hour, car journey. -

Just think, you can have that homo erotic relationship with Will Smith, and no one will be around to care.
