  1. Yes, and all fancy fittings I still think that 'a house' can be built cheaply and of adequate quality. The real problem is, and self builders are the worst offender, is getting carried away. If, for example, you spend £7k on home automation, then forking out £2k on just the bathtub seems a bargain. It will still get a scum line on it the same as a £200 one.
  2. Make a T bream out of OSB. A decent adhesive, two battens either side of the T's "leg" should make it very sturdy.
  3. Starting to sound like (expletive deleted)ing witchcraft this gardening. I have heard that deflowering a virgin makes the volunteer potatoes stand to attention. Off to find a virgin for you.
  4. My usage is usually over 80%. Harder to do in summer as the usually day usage, around 1 kWh stays the same but the night usage goes down from around 10 to 14 kWh to around 2 to 3 kWh.
  5. Some Sunnyboys needed a special installer code to set them up. You ask SMA for it, they do some checks, then send you a code. Also, some SMAs can't be Sunnyboys, or Windyboys, quite different configurations, though the same inverter. You can usually plug a laptop into them and configure them, I think the connection software is on the SMA website. Finally, is it set up for the UK, they usually are set up for Germany, the SB TL4000 (may be renamed now) had a small dial that you had to set from 11 to 9 I think. Failure to do that caused all sorts of problems. There was also a problem with DC voltage on some if the smaller ones, usually got round it by oversizing the array by 20‰ to get a more consistent higher voltage. It is over a decade since I played with them, so much may have changed, but I doubt it.
  6. Evan old ones.
  7. I have no sense, nor am I common. Try suggesting it to them, there may be someone who is a bit of a realist.
  8. Would it not be cheaper, and easier all round, to just change your boiler to a smaller one. And give you a cheque for the inconvenience.
  9. @Ultima357 Have you plotted, at the hourly interval, solar power, OAT and IAT to see what is really happening. You may find that a bit of solar film cures 99% of the issue.
  10. Welcome Regarding the electrical side, Scotland has different rules to England, @ProDave, and Englishman Abroad, knows more. Our old mate Jeremy found a young, newly qualified electrician who worked at a reasonable rate because he (the sparks) needed to get wiring inspected and sign off for his CPD. Always worth asking at a local technical college who they have.
  11. If you know the mean temperature, and the standard deviation (use 6⁰C if you don't) that will be close enough.
  12. Yes. I am going to tell people that my bad habits are green, may save 0.1 kWh a year.
  13. You can also make high grade compost from coffee beans. Well that is what they claim at my local chain coffee shop.
  14. The Met Office has some historical data. The nearest station will be close enough. There is also Degreedays https://www.degreedays.net/
  15. Yes there is, could contributed to many in the past. There does seem to be a regular core of contributors that think data and fact are not important.
  16. Having been involved with catering for over 45 years, I still don't know what proper, real or fine food really is. Flavour and calories is all I care about.
  17. Is Tom Foster still working with magic physics and Renewable John heating and powering a whole town with half a metre square of grassland? Shame that some people in here drove @Ed Davies to go back there.
  18. Almost as big as my house footprint.
  19. You ever watch Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, may have been World Class British Builders.
  20. Make it part of their job, if they are any good they will be pleased to.
  21. Sometimes I have them. Would there be any reason why you cannot parge both sides of the block as you go along? Wall ties may bet in the way, but they can be navigated with a hand brush. So something like build up 4 courses of block, parge, batten, cables/services, put right, put right, put right, insulate, put right, put right, put right, and then the visible finishes.
  22. I don't think tape is a get out of jail card here. If you must build in leaky block, I would have thought that parging it as you go along is not going to slow you down any, may even work out easier and cheaper, less battle fatigue.
  23. I found this, if it is any help. https://lignacite.co.uk/products/lignalite/ Seems they are around 9 m3.h-2.m-2 when untreated, so pretty poor.
