Has anyone got any contacts for buying longer lengths of this. My lay has just gone up from 1000m to 1950m, and I'd like to lay the pipe with the least amount of joins in it.

I've one quote for for pipe in 500m lengths, £996 ex vat plus 100 delivery for 2 500m. For heaving it around 500 is going to be the max length but struggling to find anyone else that will quote over the norm lengths of 150m or less. Also by using at least 1 long length I can avoid a wayleave cost which started at free and turned into I'll speak to the solicitor to get a cost.

I know using the plasson joins should be ok but less joins has got to be better if possible. I will be using stopcocks for each join just so I can section off and test each part if any leak does arise. So does anyone know anywhere, I have googled and spoken to most of the suppliers that do come up and just getting "nope either 100 max or some 150m max"

Awaiting the breadth of knowledge that sits on this forum.

Nick

I will just add my thoughts

i can see exactly why you want to. But the question have you felt a 500m roll or looked at the size of it, having just laid 260m of 32mm I can’t imagine what a 500m roll feels like, I would think 500m would be the max you would want to go and it will be a job for a couple of strong lads, not something to do with the wife on a Sunday arvo.

I would ring the pipe manufacturer and ask them if any of their stockists hold the longer lengths.

I'm struggling to actually find who the manufactures are,  I worked out the 500m would weigh about 140kg so 2 of us should manage that but yup wouldn't want to go bigger unless hiring a cable drum trailer which I'm trying to avoid. I'm laying the first part with the farmer , he is laying 500 odd metres of a new line as he'd like 32mm aswell, so hopefully it'll be easier if we use his handler or anything else we need, thereafter I'll ask nicely for some help on some nice days. The Mrs read this post and yes agreed she isn't going to be doing it with on any! afternoon.

If anyone can point me in the direction of the manufacturer I would be eternally grateful and will make some calls tomorrow.

Uponor make most of the high end MDPE in the U.K. and it’s a continuous extrusion plant so you could buy 2000m if your reel was big enough.

Do you know if you can have a 32mm connection as most are at best 25mm and are restricted to a 15mm water meter orifice at the stopcock end.

The info I have from south west says I can have up to 32mm , looking to reduce at the house down to 25 to up the pressure after such a long run, least im hopeful this is how it'll work.

Also is it worth signing up for an account with anyone to get the price down for stuff like this , got some bm accounts but their costings dont make it worth it to but all the fittings , thinking one of the plumbing or specialist places might be better if anyone has a recommendation?

You could try Pipestock but there prices are already pretty keen.

I’ve exchanged a couple of texts with a mate who installs this sort of stuff and he said to check if you can find someone who does electro fusion welding however he said it may just be more expensive.

How far down the lane is the farm supply and what do they want to run off it ..? May be worth looking at 32mm to the farm and then both of you run 25mm from there.

Farm is about 1500m mark, but he actually want to up his 25 to 32 as thats what im putting in , so kinda works as we use his wayleave and half the cost of the first 500m for trenching. Tried pipestock they were no good on any other lengths :(

Hi, I had quite a few bits from a company called Drainage365(.co.uk?). Run by a really helpful guy (Simon?). He been in the industry for a long time and recently set this company up - he might be worth a call and could probably point you in the right direction if he can't help you himself.

Worth bearing in mind Pascal's Law...

Interestingly or not Uponor don't manufacture the pipe now, they put me onto Wavin (supposedly a manufacturer), they don't make it now they buy it in, they put me onto Radius ...they do manufacture it but wont do longer lengths, hmmm enough time spent on the phone now to inquiries followed by technical followed by not this technical dept the other one and then followed by nope we can't do it. I'll use the quote I have, pay the premium, and shut up and use a lot of joins happy days ahead ?

We installed 1.25km of 100mm plastic sewage pumping main and it came in 250m lengths. As we didn’t have a decoiler we hoisted each coil  up between two trees with a rope through the centre of the coil. We then used an expanding nose cone with swivel and attached it and the pipe to a dumper and slowly pulled the pipe out alonside the trench. Once the pipe was positioned in the trench, the joints were electro fusion welded using a hired machine and a generator. All trenched dug by machine, pipe laid and backfilled by a team of 6 Scout leaders in a weekend.

Epic job! Did it need 6 people? Could you have made do with 3 with the decoiler? We did a fairly short run (100m?) of 90mm in cold weather and it was a real fight for 2 of us.

Hi @PeterW, what do you mean restricted to 15mm at the stop cock end? I have 32mm from the main, through the water meter, i know it is 32mm as I bought the box with the 32mm built in connections and then it goes into the house and reduces to 22mm at the stop cock.
