A visit to the  BM in my building gear - dirty trousers, knee pads, PPE, safety boots - is different to those visits (rare in my case) when I'm wearing normal everyday clothing.

The counter staff behave differently: in my work gear they reach for the Delivery Ticket and start writing my account name on the top - normal clothes - "Cash sale?"

It's just me innit?

Nah - it’s all of us ..!

Oddly when I picked up a PlumbFix order in my suit he put it in the car for me ... never normally do that when I’m scruffy ...!!

There is always a BIG difference in the mix of customers visiting on a weekday. compared to those that go on a Saturday morning.

Jewsons and Travis, the only 2 locally both know me, but have yet so see me in clean clothes.

I used to make my hubby change his clothes if we went together. If he was on his own he didn’t bother ?

Keep a hi viz, and you hard hat / bump cap in the car for just such occasions.

Make sure your hi viz is suitable dirty by taking it out of the packet, scrunching it up and leaving it loose in the foot wells/boot of your car. No one wants to look like George Osbourne in his still packet creased, brand new hi viz, grinning creepily at a pointless publicity stunt photo shoot.

I always dress down for a trip to any purveyor of mechanical hardware.

Does that include the 'Adult shop'? (PS finding it difficult to get on with the new emojis will keep working at it!)

I hear they sell masks like this emoji  in the ‘adult shop’ ;)

PS the old 'default' emojis are right down at the very bottom. @PeterW can those be moved up to the top, or are the endless crap ones a new feature? ;)

I'd love it if we could move to a new set of decent emojis. The old ones looked okay but there weren't a very wide range. The new ones have a wider range, but are black and white and pretty darned ugly.

@PeterW?

The mobile versions are in colour but they are not all compatible between the laptop and mobile so you often get squares where they aren't. I agree, on the laptop they are grim, but the old faithful coloured ones should be right at the bottom if you scroll down.

That is bloody indistinguishable on the laptop as it’s soooo small and doesn’t work well in black ;). I had to swap to the mobile to see what it was! :D

You could always go for something more traditional ?

? ?⛓️?

(I don’t suppose any of those will work on the laptop!).

I'm on a laptop and mine are in colour.  Also the ones I have used recently are saved at the top.  So any of the old ones I like to use are now at the top, plus a few of the newer ones.  It does take a while to load though  ??️?️

Maybe it's browser specific then? I can only see 1 of the ones you have posted (a black outline of a house) and then 2 squares. Off to try Firefox ......

Edit - Yep, can see all 3 in Firefox but the house is still black.
