My husband always says you can tell who is in the process of building their own house.

They are the ones at the self build shows sitting on the floor outside the cafeteria with a packed lunch & flask because they don't have any money left. Tee hee!

They are the ones part way through the build.

The ones in the cafe, probably wearing clean clothes, have yet to start. Oh what it was to be naive.

Then there are those intending to turn the visit into a day out; and by 10:00 have realised it's the opposite.

How much? Stupid prices! They think we're a gold mine don't they? By 12:00, they're cross, by 1:00 they're off home.

We begrudge the time  now. Unless we plan to meet up with mates from BH. That's always a tonic.

The ones that haven’t started are the ones talking about “colour wheels” and “mood boards”.....

The ones that have started are usually down to seeing permanent red and always in a bad mood ...!

These shows are missing a trick really. They should have a ‘Self Build Stress Release Zone’.

Lots of interactive activities:

Kevin McLoud Punch Bag (Who wouldn’t?)

Whacka Contractor (We’ve all wanted to)

Sarah Beeny Bouncy Castle (Two large bouncy domes, you get the idea)

Durisol Jenga (Sorry @recoveringacademic :D)

Window Buying Game of Chance (To quote Wikipedia “A game of chance may have some skill element to it, however, chance generally plays a greater role in determining the outcome than skill”)

Adult Screw Fix (Couples welcome for the ultimate in relaxation)

Tool Station (Just a platform to stand on where you can accept you were a complete Tool for even contemplating a self build)

Im sure you can think of some more........

Buildhub is the only dedicated self-build stress relief zone I know.

Seconded

The ones actually building their own houses don't have time to take a day swanning round a selfbuild show. The time to go to a show is before you start.
