full fill or not?

starting extension to bungalow (1970 I believe) - I had expected a 350mm cavity wall with Thermalite inner leaf 100mm celotex PIR 50mm air gap and medium dense outer leaf.

Spec now reads as 350mm wide but with a full fill 150 Knauf insulation

I feel a little uncomfortable about the full fill aspect, although reading the Knauf description I shouldn't do.

Am I being too suspicious about the loss of the air gap?

Mine works fine with 100 mm aircrete blocks 125 mm full fill insulation and a brick skin to the outer. I built it myself though so I know that there are no gaps in the insulation and not a single mortar snot on it either. I don’t live in an exposed area though but have full confidence in it.

This is now mineral wool batts instead of rigid PIR.  It is nearly always full filled.  As it is single storey and sounds like rendered the risk of moisture transfer is very small.

I full filled my 200mm cavity with dritherm batts, they came with a bba certificate for full fill. Damp did penetrate the outer brickwork at one stage but the insulation did not wick the damp into itself (I cured the damp problem afterwards.). So in my opinion it’s nothing to worry about but good for you for asking 👍

I like it a lot. Bricklayers cannot drop mortar down the gap (making a dampness bridge at the bottom) , or their empty cans or fag packets. Plus they can't leave gaps anywhere it is awkward for them.

I've specified it many times and observed it in use. It has been good on site and in life.

Do make sure you have the right waterproof product obviously, as they can look similar, or a bricky might get the wrong stuff.

What do you mean? Silly? It's German what more you need...

Not wanting to take this thread off topic perhaps I should start new thread 😉

It's 5.4 Litres of hand built V8 - made a bit nuttier by AMG - then thrown in a car with a short wheelbase and not enough room in the arches for a more suitable width rubber so anything more than a moderate throttle lights the tyres up. 🤣
