Hello - anyone have any idea how to change this lightbulb?

If the chain is long, it might pull across to a favourable position.

definitely, regardless of your steadiness. The ladder moving is more worrying and distracting.

has anyone used one of those multi-position ladders?

For the future what about a 'slinky' cable and a chain so that you can hook the fitting off and get it far enough for you to do the bulb change on the landing - then hook it back on? Sky-hooks are a good, but somewhat less serious, possibility.

Not that sort, but I have owned and used a "3 way ladder" for years.  It has been solid, stable, dependable and very versatile.  Several people have told me how unsafe they are, but I disagree.

Something similar, but not identical to this one.

How many Buildhub members does it take to change a light bulb?

A: Zero. If you're not doing it yourself, it's not self build.

A: Three. One to change the bulb, two to bitch about the architect that put it there.

A. One professional to tell you how to do it.

Then 6 other people to talk about CDM, thermal bridging, decrement delay, weather compensation, brexit, air tightness, the low standard of contractors today, J Harris's spreadsheet, Loxone, Wagner sprayers and a few other unrelated subjects.

Finally ... 2 or 3 more just treating the whole thing as a joke :)

I don't really like to multi-position ones but I have a Little Giant Velocity ladder which is brilliant:
