Ecthelion Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 (edited) I’ve dreaded this day. 8 years the bulb lasted from when we built the house. 😬 Edited January 2, 2024 by Ecthelion

ProDave Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 Or an offset set part on the landing part on the top flight. You might want an assistant to hold them if you are not steady on a ladder.
saveasteading Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 If the chain is long, it might pull across to a favourable position. 4 minutes ago, ProDave said: You might want an assistant to hold them definitely, regardless of your steadiness. The ladder moving is more worrying and distracting. has anyone used one of those multi-position ladders?
Redbeard Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 For the future what about a 'slinky' cable and a chain so that you can hook the fitting off and get it far enough for you to do the bulb change on the landing - then hook it back on? Sky-hooks are a good, but somewhat less serious, possibility.

The ladder moving is more worrying and distracting. has anyone used one of those multi-position ladders? Not that sort, but I have owned and used a "3 way ladder" for years. It has been solid, stable, dependable and very versatile. Several people have told me how unsafe they are, but I disagree. Something similar, but not identical to this one. https://www.screwfix.com/p/mac-allister-2-section-3-way-aluminium-combination-ladder-2-6m/4165x

Alan Ambrose Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 How many Buildhub members does it take to change a light bulb?

If you're not doing it yourself, it's not self build. A: Three. One to change the bulb, two to bitch about the architect that put it there. 1 2

Alan Ambrose Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 A. One professional to tell you how to do it. Then 6 other people to talk about CDM, thermal bridging, decrement delay, weather compensation, brexit, air tightness, the low standard of contractors today, J Harris's spreadsheet, Loxone, Wagner sprayers and a few other unrelated subjects. Finally ... 2 or 3 more just treating the whole thing as a joke

joe90 Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 I used to have a couple of these in different sizes and found them invaluable for working on stairs. https://www.screwfix.com/p/mac-allister-4-section-aluminium-folding-ladder-with-platform-3-30m/602kk 1
