  1. Sorry can't answer your question and you likely know this but yesterday someone reminded me to ensure a temp probe is in the wet room floor before screed and not stuck outside in the hall as an afterthought.
  2. That's a great idea too! Cheers. To go off piste, in Germany, Luxembourg etc I see family having their washing machine in the bathroom. That would make so much more sense but from what I gather it's a no no here.
  3. That's good, hadn't thought of that. We have a utility room close by, I was thinking it could cater for queued up dishwasher dishes.
  4. Fair point, it's her husband. 🤣
  5. A friend said she detests her sink on the island because it gets too messy. Any thoughts? We can have it at the outside wall or on the island. Also sorry for all the questions. 😳
  6. Here's the thing, we are having a granny annexe and bluntly mum requires intense heat since she is on blood thinners. We have spent 1k on oil in this leaky rented house since the start of the year. The areas she can't reach are a normal temp but for the new build the spec of an ashp is really worrying me. Not only that it has vaulted ceilings which I guess makes it worse. Yes we have 200mm PIR cavities and triple glazing but she needs fast heat. Not it to sloooooowly warm up in a day. Yes , she is nearly 87 and won't be around forever but we plan to stay there so maybe I will face the issue myself in 20 years? We met extended family yesterday and I was told how a couple who have moved into their new house deeply regret getting an ASHP since their electric bills have been breathtaking. Yes they know the fitter was incompetent but that doesn't help. There are so few here that are trained. To even get one serviced will be fun. I was watching heat geek on you tube and there was a guy in the comments studying thermodynamics who said his course wasn't covering this stuff and it should. The poor guy who had a terrible experience with an ashp had the patience of a saint. I owned a renault zoe a couple of years ago and now am back on diesel. I just get the feeling this might end up the same way and frankly it would be too expensive a mistake. We got planning permission and the plans submitted did have an ashp included. I wonder if we could change? That said that Qube house I showed you is now up for sale and it swapped from ashp to oil I see. (dropped in price) https://www.robertferris.co.uk/the-qube-passive-house-11-hazelwood-avenue-prehen-londonderry/902675
  7. I called into an engineering workshop re the balcony and whilst looking at the plans said he could build our main staircase (it has a turn in it) for 2k plus. It's tempting, it would never creak. We had one years ago and it was carpeted. Great job. I asked would it satisfy building control, he said yes. Tempted. Also I guess could put it in as soon as floor was down? Like it wouldn't mind a knock.
  8. Conor, are you happy with it? Which one did you get?
  9. Hmmm, a bit concerned. The mvhr guy visited and was slightly shocked at how high the ceiling was (new build, vaulted, don't ask, hindsight is fecking wonderful). He said he could put the vents into the walls as high as he could. However, if heat rises, should it not be at the highest point?
  10. So ventilation guy said loads think ashp are sh*t , expensive to run and cost a fortune to service. He said get a wee oil burner for a fraction of cost.
  11. Thanks, right so we have some time then! Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately we need non standard height Set 1 is Ground Floor - First Floor: 15 No. Risers at 199.4mm 14 No. Goings at 220mm Total Rise = 2991mm Pitch = 42 degrees Set 2 is Staircase to comply with Technical Booklet H (2012). Stair to have clear width of 800mm and be fitted with handrail at a height of 900mm above pitch line above stair. See General Notes. Ground Floor - First Floor: 15 No. Risers at 199.4mm 14 No. Goings at 250mm Total Rise = 2991mm Pitch = 39 degrees I know its a bit odd but frankly it gives our grown up kids a separate area and access
  12. So thinking we need to order the 2 staircases. What is the most price effective wood that is decent? We would love walnut but presumably that is eye watering in terms of cost Also at what stage do they go in? Is it when you are watertight? Baskill will have our windows and doors installed 2nd week April.
  13. Should it not be warm enough? Like my son lives in a passive house and they use the heating max twice a year. I keep reading of huge electric bills for ashp and that you can't turn them off. So why should I do it? Have we just been conditioned into thinking we need it?
  14. Hello, so going with three velux windows and budget getting tight so how does this sound? Home is new build and passive with a ventilation system because it's passive. Window 1 on a stairwell that won't be used much so triple glazed. Centrally hung and would like to use a pole to clean it twice a. year lol but how long can a pole extend or should we just make it electric ? Window 2 in a bathroom, again triple glazed, centrally hung and electric. Window 3 dressing room, again centrally hung but what about not electric? The windows need to be mk04 980 x 780 according to architect spec. Any thoughts?
  15. https://www.idealhome.co.uk/house-manual/home-energy/aira-heat-pump It's time for us to get a heat pump and money is getting stretched. Noticed this, what do you think? Quality wise first.
  16. Thankyou. The version we have is slightly smaller so only has one tap in the middle. Bramco does the top drawer pull out ok?
  17. Thinking a ceramic sink might be less hassle though the reviews aren't bad
  18. So I bought 3 braviken sinks and 2 x single drawer godmorgen, 1 double drawer godmorgen at a really good price. Now I am concerned they won't drain easily, they will stain easily, and concerned the single drawer will work under the sink. No one in the store seemed to know owt.
  19. Just been reading about damage to someones ashp through a surge (cost 1k to fix but they were lucky at that) and another person responded by saying they got surge protection in the meter cabinet for £200. Any thoughts?
  20. What do you think of this?
  21. Hey there,so filling out the application form for the new connection. As I mentioned before there is a 3 phase pole at the rear of the garden and we have managed to secure it for the house. The intention being to futureproof it in terms of having electric cars eventually and microgeneration eventually (not putting up solar panels just yet). The house is passive and just over 2000sqft we will obviously be using ventilation and an ASHP. So my question is, which meter or tariff? Should we get economy 7 for instance? Also there will be 5 adults living in the house and we are doing 4 showers (ensuites) obviously all wont be in use at the same time but 2 or 3 could be easily. The electrician mentioned he would put the house on one phase for safety. I was just wondering how would that effect charging a car? I would love to be able to charge at 22kw.
  22. Thanks, it's appreciated.
