Who could I send my plans to so we can get the plumbing done to suit the ASHP so pipe sizes and radiators, ground floor is correctly sized and we can get on with it while shopping around for the actual pump or even go 2nd hand? A lot are ripping them out I hear due to crazy electric bills. Ni hasn't got its grants in place yet, nor sufficient trained installers. The plumbers merchants told us we would need a 10kw ashp so looking on eBay just to see!

Ah, much appreciated 😃

We are opening a door from a bedroom to a toilet to make it ensuite but to save room I was thinking of using a pocket door. However they are costly. So now thinking I could use 2 half vertical doors like a wardrobe. How do I describe this or what do I look for?

I said to all to use recirculating hood not vented but was asked what if we used this? Obviously I don't want to compromise our near passive standards.

Calculating size of heat pump required

Do you mind me asking, how do you heat your water? -
Stairs - before or after tiling?
CalvinHobbes replied to kandgmitchell's topic in Floor Tiles & Tiling
does this include if you are using AMTICO SPACIA LVT SPICED TIMBER FLOORING (its only 2.5mm? Also thinking about using a metal staircase to stop squeaks , not sure how that would land on the floor. Will carpet it. -

How many commando sockets 1 or more?

So you fail the meter guy if you fit 1? -
Hiya, how many commando sockets can you put in a temporary supply (single phase 16v) to obey building regs?

Honestly, feeling like banging my head against the wall. The £$%^ that put this in did it fecking wrong. He handed me the door and said to take it away or it would get broke. The electrician went to put on the door today and its upside fecking down so the pins that hold on the door by gravity are arse about face. When the network guys come on Thursday when they unlock it - it will fall off. The pins are embedded in the door. How can we attach the door? I really try not to swear but there are times.....

What do you think of this solar quote
CalvinHobbes replied to CalvinHobbes's topic in Photovoltaics (PV)
That's worrying when he is telling me it's 11.6! Thanks. -
How did that go? Our architect planned in radiators upstairs but where we live now which isn't passive we never have the heat on upstairs. I am thinking we could do like you and lose the radiators upstairs just keeping the ashp downstairs.

I can see he hasn't specified the make of the panels, plus we dont need the eddi since we will have an ashp. Also we will hold off on batteries. I would like one of those switches that means we can use our own electric if the neighbourhood electric is shut off. What should I ask him? Scaffolding already there.
-
Thanks to ye all. Mea culpa. I misunderstood the electrician re the three phase. I got them talking and all sorted. Well sort of...we agreed stage 1 which was to get the panels on the roof while scaffold up. Stage 2 is the inverter. 11.6kw going up.
-
So went to the fire station. After a debate they agreed what they would do is put them in the utility room with a heat sensor. As long as branded batteries installed by MCs then grand.

I think we will just put up a 6kw array and in the future plan to up that to 12 and put a battery in was thinking lippy I hear they are due to release a 3 phase battery. Just planning ahead. Unsure of battery. Have asked that the inverter be 3 phase and hybrid. Just wondering about the tesla powerwall, it can be outside. I wonder how it does in -5 degrees and with 3 phase?
-
The solar guy said we should not put the battery outside since doing so in our wet cold location will mean it will discharge, (he wants the meter and batteries in the utility room)having had an electric car, a little zoe over a winter I can see what he means. That said the electrician is adamant we dont put it inside saying battery fires are terrible (He wants the meter in the cupboard behind the porch). We don't have a garage. So I was thinking we could put it in the porch but that is open on one side and outside the thermal envelope The electrican wants to put it outside in some sort of hut. Oh and thanks I have gone back and asked for the 3 phase inverter that is hybrid and acceptable to give energy to the grid.

Thank you so much, right will contact them and enlighten the spark.

The meter will be 3 phase but the electrician said he was using one phase in the main house itself for safety. The other phases will be available for charging the car. He has a massive thing about earthing. The house is 2600 and included a granny annexe. 5 adults will live in it. 5 ensuites . 10kw ashp apparently (though I think that seems overkill) I would like to be able to add panels in the future. I have requested the meter install so they will be in touch Monday to arrange.
