  1. Lol I have a bosch but since I heard or rather didn't hear a really quiet one in a very luxurious apartment in luxemborg, all my appliances sound really noisy. With you re the wine..
  2. At this stage, more interested in how noisy or quiet they are when running. Huge differences.
  3. In our area there is the pink ladies charity that is really helpful with helping out with situations like this. Is there a charity locally to you that would help? Even to help organise re what you would need to get in. They might be able to call in a few favours for you. People are good given half a chance.
  4. Mostly long established hedges and 4 fruit trees. Daughter is crazy about birds so really doing it to calm her down that none will be ousted by a digger.
  5. Hopefully will be starting in March but have been clearing trees/hedges. I 1)so that birds won't nest in them and it would be carnage if I don't 2)To save money, I can get rid of a lot with my wee trailer - guy at recycling has already said I have done a good job of filling a huge skip. The digger will obviously get the roots. So far have been using a bow saw but so much still to do, was tempted to get this..https://www.screwfix.com/p/titan-ttl759chn-40cm-40cc-petrol-chainsaw/995fh Obviously will get the safety trouses and gloves. Got goggles so figured I would just need a safety helmet. Need one anyway for the self build. Which colour? Blue for inexperienced or white because I will likely have to project manage?
  6. What do you think of this? https://www.sms-plc.com/insights/blogs-news/what-does-the-3-phase-smart-meter-mean-for-the-smart-energy-revolution/
  7. Well that got your attention. ? TBH this is a question just about the birds. We have quite a few hedges and a few trees in a property due to be cleared as a site in March. I was thinking of removing as much vegetation on the surface to deter birds from nesting. I don't want the digger ripping through nests. Any tips?
  8. Yikes so do we need 3 phase electric? I think it runs past our house. It wouldn't be far to take it in. We will be doing a new build with 4 electric showers. Going for passive standard.
  9. It looks brilliant, well done.
  10. We went to the self build show, one of the sales reps said we should pick a system that we can get parts for in years to come - go for a big brand like hitachi, he said. That sounded logical.
  11. The mica effected blocks were sold not just in the republic, in many counties not just Donegal but apparently were supplied to another firm for selling on in the North during the celtic tiger. Look up 100% Redress and follow the facebook link.
  12. YES, they did in all likelihood go to the UK because they were exported through Foyle port . There are numerous buildings in Northern Ireland that have the tell tale signs especially in Derry.
  13. Could you not have resold the insulation you bought and use beads with the money?
  14. Thanks, I hope you are right. Bond market is a mess. Evergrande didn't default after all, or maybe they just bought a month.
  15. Bit concerned over the Evergrande situation that has the potential of going like Bearings by all accounts. We have funds in banks waiting to be used next year for our build. The bank guarantee scheme is a limited pot and in Cyprus people got burned. So maybe best to spread it out and keep it well under the 80k. Incidentally solicitors clients accounts would be a nightmare in this situation. It looks like 3 bonds were covered but contracts say they all need to be. Maybe that's why China nd the US came arrived at an unexpected climate deal today too? Timing interesting.
  16. I think between seeing Mica in Donegal (many of the houses effected are owned by tradies)and reading about the Grenfell predicted tragedy, I am a tad cynical.
  17. Oh thank you, that looks excellent. What width was the cavity? Crikey, can't tell you how excited we will be to even get that far!
  18. Architect is firm on it.
  19. Nope, picked on Kingspan because of the attached media reports. Just as interested in any other PIR manufactuers reputations but haven't seen similar reports on them.
  20. Cheers, I know you did a 250 cavity, we can only go up to 200. Bit cheeky but you don't have a pic of your batts during the build?
  21. Considering the various media reports, what faith have you in Kingspan and why? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-55986486 https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/dec/17/director-grenfell-firm-quits-evidence-outdated-fire-tests-kingspan https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/health-and-safety/grenfell-kingspan-probed-over-hidden-test-results-24-03-2021/
  22. Hiya, going to see a passive house tomorrow and this is the breakdown... Internal to External Plasterboard / Timber cladding 50mm service void Intello airtight membrane 219mm timber frame infilled with cellulose insulation 10mm OSB Breather membrane 100mm Kingspan Kooltherm K12 50mm batten and counter batten Siberian Larch or Cement fibre board cladding We are building with block and wonder what is the most cost effective choice to achive passive house sort of standard? Can anyone give me a similar cross section description?

  24. Well yes, you could get an asbestos survey done. I was amazed myself at just how many products it's in, gutters, celing, under steel sink, even the cistern can have it. At the very least damp down and wear PPE. You can get the bags online and dump it responsibly. Also, the risk to you and your dad should still be low - don't stress.
