  1. John B Goodenough is still alive, so the "since" is not very convincing. ? Interesting vid, though. Anyone remember "Buddies - the greatest invention since the drawing pin"? (We need them in Notts, as drawing pins are very much looked down upon in schools here.)
  2. You could consider mounting on he cupboard floor, or a shelf, for a firmer surface. Looking at mine, I have 3 types for the first 3 I looked at (kitchen done by previous self-builder ? ) 1 - Mounted on back of cupboard. 2 - Mounted on side of cupboard. 3 - Mounted on wall where cupboard is backless. However they are all fine *. And he was obviously a flexible chap. F * Apart from the socket in the island for the wide-boy led plinth lights fed by a lighting cable buried directly in the screed.
  3. Take careful advice before doing this. It is this sort of thing that can blow up a relationship. What rights does the neighbour have? F
  4. If it is only 10 years old, does it actually have any PD rights? Planners should know. If it does not then you know you have to go for PP anyway. The width would be whatever you can get approved by Planning under local / national policy. It might be worth a conversation with a planner as to what the policy is generally, or read up on it on the Planning Portal or elsewhere. Ferdinand
  5. You can fund two? And know that the other one will be a suitable holiday let? Would PP be necessary / achievable? One option may be to build a "wee hoose" or a "cabin" on your plot to live in, then treat that as a lettable annexe, family visitor accommodation, or holiday home. But perhaps adds other complexity. See for example Lots of options, and you just need to find the right one. F
  6. Observed the Beeboid commentator on the Madison last night remarking on a "transfer of speed" when they did the hand-sling. You have some work to do ?. Now, back to topic...
  7. Translated. Movement and people jumping up and down and dropping things. ?
  8. Hmmm. I would be doing the garage in a way that it could be a separate house later. I think there was a GD that did that too - bloke built on an old scrapyard or storage yard. Where is the lake going?
  9. I would say their version of the one on the right was removed to build the one on the left ???.
  10. Will try to get to grips with this today.
  11. Wouln't it be reinforced (or with fibres) to prevent cracking? Re: Biscuits. Garibaldis don't crack, because they are reinforced with a layer of currants. I am not clear what sort of 'garden room' you mean. Do you mean a garden building, or a garden room attached to the house? In either case I would insulate below the floor, though only the 2nd may require it. I would also take great care with ventilation, and perhaps use a reversible single-point Heatpump as the air conditioning. F
  12. Does it help to dehumidify them for a few days before laying?
  13. Why not just get the whole thing under FOI?
  14. Don't worry, someone will introduce you to a gun that shoots bullets round corners.
  15. Welcome. I think we really need a bigger slice of the plan, showing for example the orientation in the plot, the road etc. F
  16. I think you need to consider what price you put on 1-2 years of planning and disruption.
  17. If it was in date at the point of application, then imo that should have been OK. Sorry you lost on that basis.
  18. You can always phone up and ask. I would make a point of asking, so you know what is happening and whether there is any BS you need to kill, or serious stuff that needs attention - up to and including whether you need to reconsider your App.
  19. That's an excellent point. The better way imo would be for a carbon tax on everything based on emissions, and get rid of all the other "green" taxes. I see that more fixed price tariffs seem to be around, and I'd expect a few more to emerge. F
  20. I think that might be common practice, and Wickes know all about it. It's not as if it is making them make a loss. Sell a wheelbarrow on ebay? Equals "Dangti Barrowboyz".
  21. He bought it, and the oil pipeline iirc turned out to be mainly next door.
  22. Have you considered @pocster's walk on glazing leaned on the wall? He'd probably give it away by now, if you collect. Bristol is only at the far end of the Kennet & Avon. You can tie it to the side of the boat like a glazing van. I seem to recall that you are west of London?
  23. "Energy bills to rise by at least £139 for millions of households By Simon Read" https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-58106105
  24. I think you should start with your requirements. That is a 1-2 page memo with your requirements - that is what the house must do for you. Space, rooms, people who will live there, grannexe, garden areas, indoors/outoors lifestyle, sitting areas outside, and so on. Perhaps styles you like etc. That will give your As things to chew on, and clarify your thinking. If you ask As to give you something substantive, then you will have to pay for time, and probably be bound to pay if you use someone else to do their concept. Best of luck. Ferdinand
  25. At least it isn't an oil pipeline. ?
