  1. I'm sure someone will point out that with a higher temperature of water in the hot water tank this reduces the volume used when mixed with cold, and therefore reduces the required storage. At 60°C storage and 45°C use my guess is about 30% cold water
  2. Hi @GeorgeAs buildings become better insulated the percentage of the heat demand required for the air changes increases. Ours is about 29% of the heat demand, about the same as the windows, even though we have a MVHR system.
  3. and so it goes on... A combustion or flue gas analyser is used to measure the efficiency of the combustion process within a boiler. This is not the same as the boiler efficiency as it does not take account of, for example, the heat losses from the case of the boiler. So generally the efficiency stated on the rating plate of the boiler will always be lower than the measured efficiency of combustion.
  4. Hi @Green Power Just a thought: You may wish to add the electricity used by a gas boiler to your calculations.
  5. I like that! learnt something new again!
  6. I didn't know a boiler could be over 100% efficient. How does it produce more energy than the gas inputs? Is that because of the heat produced through the electrical componants?
  7. Adding to this is using power from PV installed on the same building. Something difficult to emulate using a gas boiler!
  8. Every shaver point I've ever had hums and gets warm.....
  9. For your information. I think the 112 is the 11.2kW model Manufacturer Model Numbers Date of manual Page on manual comment Mitisibishui Ecodian PUHZ 50, 85, 112,140 ? 2 and 7 Turn on at least 12 hours before operation.
  10. On the Samsung ESH ones the crankcase heater kicks in when below 10C!!
  11. Good idea. 4 months? I live on the Isle of Wight. We'll turn it on sometime this month.....
  12. Which ASHP with a decent compressor were you thinking of? Daikin? Mitisibishui? Valliant? ( yes they all have the same challenge that they need a warm compressor....
  13. checking various items we have we found that, yes, the oven on/off on/off along with Air fryer, induction hob, slow cooker, and so on. we live in the world of fast and furious, however, we need a low n slow to get the most out of the PV However on a cloudy day (lots of those) the PV output also jumps about and so to protect the EV charger I have a delayed off relay. The other big thing for us is the ASHP, which also does the on/off on/off. Although this is normal cycling for an ASHP tricky to use the excess PV power unless on a heating element.
  14. May be but we heat the hot water higher than our ASHP to last the next day as well in case there is not enough PV.
  15. Well I'm still trying to avoid damaging our ASHP along with who knows how many of the 47,000 other ASHP owners in the UK. I assume the likes of @Conor and @richo106 and others who have the same ASHP as us are aware....
  16. Oh, and 18 degrees off vertical I thought was best for winter....
  17. Old school: Installed after solic and before immersion.
  18. Yes like this set up with a separate meter altogether :
  19. I think the issue has only just arisen because of: Suggested power cuts in the UK in Jan/Feb. Enquiries regarding other, ASHP's instructions stipulating 12 hour on standby before firing up. Me being a mean sod wondering why my ASHP uses 2kWk a day on standby. I think it was expected that ASHP's in the UK would be left on at least standby all the time especially during winter for frost/freezing protection.
  20. Hi @joe90 Is that a Kingspan Aeromax ASHP? Can you not contact the manufacturer?
  21. Yup! just had to work out that WBS meant wood Burning Stove.
  22. Hi @dpmiller. Just a thought. I assume you know our model is a Cool Energ inverTech Air Source Heat Pump CE-iVT9 with a Carel interface. I noticed you wrote about a Sprsun manual, which I had to look up to know what a Sprsun was. M
  23. Would it be the Carel or some form of low temp heater in the unit? Hence the ~90w an hour power usage?
  24. For mine, I checked with the manufacturer to understand why on page 27 it says to 'ensure power is on ahead and heating at least 12 hours for crankcase'
