God knows. If I can get plumbing to it also, it could be anything It just seems wrong to put a load of cable in the ground now when I have no idea what I have planned for it. where as putting a duct in just seems like sensible planning if you have no idea for the future.
-
Same as electrical query really. But if water supply comes out of house above ground, can I get it to a garden building 10m away, downhill? Also can you use a saniflo type unit to pump waste uphill to my main domestic waste services?
-
Very interested in this but fear to ask how much something garage sized would be 5m x 3m+
-
But I don't want/need the cable until @Onoff finishes his bathroom. Hence the duct now before things in the garden have settled and I can dig up the border with impunity.

I have a 6mm2 cable direct from the consumer unit terminated in a box on the outside wall of the house (approx. 7m run in the house). In the future, I'd like to have a garden building approx. 10m from the house and run this electrical circuit to it. I have no plans of running anything particularly powerful in there. Approx. 15m further along I have a small garden shed that maybe in future a light or electrical supply might be handy. Although I've just missed my easiest chance to do something about it with a digger on site, I can still run a duct down the border without too much bother save a little digging. Then an electrician can run a cable through it in future. There shouldn't be any vehicles going over the duct but there might be in future. Occasional, not daily. I'm sure someone here will tell me what size SWA cable I should use for the total run, please do. I won't be doing anything electrical at the moment, just looking for a guide. What size twinwall duct should I be looking at for that cable? http://www.draindepot.co.uk/plastic-underground-ducting/electric-cable-ducting.html And what general practice should I follow? Depth? marking tape? corner radii? pulling strings? etc.

It's looking like I won't need the small retaining feature along the bank - which suits me. We're marking out some trenches for the main wall but still need to make a decision on how to build it.

And shoot yourself in the foot. Looking very brown this morning. 2 more wagons needed before they bring some more material in. worried that we won't have taken out the wild garlic bulbs fully so they'll come up through the lawn next spring. Well, until I the first time I cut the grass in the spring that is. Anything else (and thee is so much stuff in the ground its untrue, me and the grass will have to fight.

For the drink, maybe you need some Penicillin? http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2009/11/time-for-a-drink-penicillin-cocktail.html -

For dental pain, I have a supply of a NSAID called mesulid which I don't think is available in the UK but (was) widely available over the counter in Greece. I think we might have a stash of Tramadol too from when the missus had carpal tunnel. Although she said it didn't work. -
Bath Surround / Boxing In, and concealed pipework

When he said dig, I always thought he meant it was an archaeological dig so the previous bathroom must have pre-dated indoor plumbing. -
I suppose I should pay attention to this. I hope to be borderline petrol/electric (due to 20m reach) so need to look at options too. Not paying £350+ for a self propelled Honda IZY though. Is the push model too cumbersome?

Thanks, I've passed that on to the wife. We're near Manchester Airport in broad terms but they cover this way and further.

I'm now getting slating hammer emails from Amazon

It can be difficult to gauge from mobile phone camera pictures, so for reference its approx. 20m from the edge of the house where this picture was taken to that little tree at the back in front of the ladder This is the 10m or so between the house and the stream and you can now more clearly see the fence of the neighbour across the stream. Lots of that greenery you can see is the otherside of the chainlink fence, including the semi-dreaded Himalayan Balsam.

If we get approx. 200 sq m of turf by mid-July, is that not a success? This first part will cost us £1500 - 2 days digger + driver + dumper, pecker (1 day), 3 grab wagon loads. cleared and levelled, 30 tonnes of grade b topsoil brought in and spread. Turf (and possibly laying) will be on top of that.

Unless you tell me the secret password, they're the prices we're getting and believe me my wife will call anyone. Been told that one of the 'features' of a sports turf is that it is very fast growing so may require twice weekly cutting. A normal lawn turf should be ok. Would rather just go for a decent turf now than try to improve a cheap grass over a couple of years. Its taken some friends 3-4 years to sort out their established lawn from when they bought their house - and that was getting someone in, not DIY.
-
And there's at least one frog who will be homeless tonight.
-
Of course, they'll be banned from it for the first 3 weeks by which time they'll have gone on their 6 weeks summer hols so won't get to play on it till September.
-
How much turf do you buy? I'd rather pay a bit more for a proper hard wearing lawn grass for my kids to do wheelies and burn-outs on than just put a cheap meadow type grass for coverage. Round here we're looking at £2-£2.50 per sq m for lawn turf.

The garage was demolished before half 8 this morning but now WW3 has broken out between my wife and I. She wants the whole thing turfed this weekend when she knows full well that I am away all weekend and nevermind the fact we don't actually know how the banking along the stream will look after clearing. She's pleased with herself that she's got a price of only £320 for 200 sq m of turf* - so god's know what sort of crap that is and probably half dead. She also assures me we don't need fertiliser before turfing because the turf is already fertilised. 200 sq m was a round guess for quoting purposes, I haven't even measured it up properly yet. fml.

Duck it, I'll carry on here. 2 days work starts tomorrow. Should get rid of all the green and grey stuff and leave us with a very brown garden.

I don't suppose there is a lot of difference if you have a traditional low level oven (as we do and Bake off) but I really wouldn't want a normal large oven door burning my belly button (or worse) if you have a higher level oven. I can really see the advantage of it there where you are leaning over it with your torso instead of breaking your back bending down.

Still had to chop off her arms and legs before I could cremate her though.
