  1. This is insane! I wonder how much all of this cost!
  2. Obviously I'm posting more than 2 years after your original post, but in case you are still in the market for bulbs, you can get CRI 95 bulbs fairly cheaply now. I've been experimenting with these and they seem pretty close to incandescent: https://www.mygreenlighting.co.uk/replacement_bulbs/spot_bulbs/gu10_bulbs/14802.html
  3. I'm interested in this. Have you found any data on colour rendering index of Philips Hue bulbs? Or angle of Philips Hue bulbs. Doesn't seem to be any data on it.
  4. Can you hide the wall by raising the floor level either side of it by the height of the wall. Then you will really show off your coping stones.
  5. Wow, that looks impressive! More photos please!
  6. Pea shingle if you are talking about a French drain.
  7. Good to know. I have a brink though it’s not been commissioned yet because house is still so dusty. Hoping to comission and move in soon… just need my never ending build to end.
  8. We had a very similar issue as we converted a 1930s 3 bed into a modern 5 bed. LOTS of steels. I think something like 12 RSJs and 5 or 6 columns. i agree with the comment above about separating it into problem areas. For example, you don’t need to do the ceiling everywhere to create a service void, you just need to do near the problematic steels. So for example our ceiling height in our bathroom is 2.45 but where our shower enclosure is we dropped this to about 2.3 to create a 15cm void above the shower enclosure. This works really well as it makes the showering enclosure, well more enclosed, and gives it a cosier feel whilst providing a route around a steel that was right next to it. In other areas, we widened stud walls slightly to take the duct. I don’t think we drilled any steels.
  9. Anyone got any tips for when a honeycomb louvred GU10 is a good idea. I saw some when I was shopping for bulbs, that weren’t that much more than a regular GU10 but didn’t have the headspace to think about that and beam angle at the same time. I’ve dusting off my trigonometry and applying it to work out what light a 20 degree vs 24 degree vs 38 degree beam angle will do for my space. Lighting design is pretty complex!
  10. On the top picture, the right hand side windows look a bit small.
  11. Can you make both these roof structures look the same height and pitch, so as to give a bit more balance and symmetry to the front:
  12. If you are using double layer of plasterboard, and have staggered them, these gaps will be completely inconsequential from a soundproofing POV.
  13. Sorry, I know it’s barely been 24h, but thought I’d bump this up. Surely one of@ProDave, @Mr Punter , @SteamyTea, @Temp, @Bitpipe, @joe90 or @AliG knows the answer.
  14. So whatever build up I go for could be poured one day and then tiled over the next, regardless of whether it is more concrete or sand and cement screed?
  15. The joinery company doing the kitchen is going to show me some samples of “laminate” brass, which I think is mostly fake. Would you mind PMing me the details of your Liverpool supplier?
  16. I think the wall looks fine @pocster, keep going!
  17. If I pour concrete, how long will that take to cure? It will take a few days to lay 30m2 of porcelain, even using the large format tiles we are using, it will be about 30 tiles. Do I need to wait for a dry spell, or does it matter if it rains in between days? I’m wondering how anybody lays a patio in this country…
  18. Mine was sand and cement screed, though not sure what the membrane would be doing either way.
  19. I’m considering some large format porcelain tiles to lay externally. We have a cement slab outside, but it needs to be built up by about 90mm before we lay the porcelain tiles. What build up should I use: flow screed? sand and cement screed? something else? ditra matting? Do I need to make sure the build up is dry/cured before the porcelain goes down or does it not matter for external purposes?
  20. no idea. It was poured almost 6 months ago and we've not had any problems. I think they taped up the seams between the boards before the pour. Can't remember.
  21. Do you remember those clever little adaptors that could convert most fittings into a G9 capsule bulb and then gave a choice of covers? Well I can still find the adaptors (e.g. here) but alas all the covers seem to be discontinued and out of stock, unless one goes for a coloured one. I'm after a frosted or opal one if anyone knows where I could get one, like this:
  22. mine are also Knightsbridge screwless. So i really don't know what is going on.
