  1. Another question if anyone is free....I'm making the doors and frame to o fit into an existing apperture. The walls read square according to my level....so, do I make the frame and then fit it into the aperture or make the frame insitu and hope my level and fitting is accurate enough that it is square? Thanks!
  2. Hi Russell.....I'm nothing more than a competentish DIYer and not the least confident! but I'm having a crack at it....using rudimentary knowledge, skills and tools. just tapping into the wealth of experience on this site. I do overthink as I want to do jobs as right and I can't afford for them to fail 🥲 Thanks for your input, much appreciated.
  3. Russel, yes, shaker style. I'll make them from MDF with strip wood for the trim. Won't the doors drop overtime without a track? Did you use a top track? I've bought one but can return it. Anymore advice gratefully received. Thanks so much.
  4. Thanks. I dont think ive described my project very well so I've put an image of what I'm making, as an attachment.. Without a top track will side hinges be strong enough to support the weight? Wont the doors dtop over time? Piano hinges better than butt?
  5. One bifold door will be 300mm wide by 1200mm high x 2 and in a V arrangement, therefore creating a W but split in the middle. one V left, one V right
  6. For 2+2 bifold kitchen cabinet doors 300mm wide by 1.2 high...woukd I need to use a top track?
  7. This isn't a newbuild so that might not apply, they're replacement windows. Don't understand why he's being such a douch!
  8. Yeh, I showed this to BCO and radio silence since!
  9. Thanks everyone. I think I have to abandon the idea of a small cloakroom, or my late husbands idea 😪 . Lots of vety helpfully advice Thankyou !
  10. Hi, The issue is thar building control dispute my measurements on two upstairs windows. How I measured then is the issue. The windows couldn't open wider if I tried. The opening is 550+ however its measured. How do I move the hinge ?
  11. Maybe this sketch can explain my problem better. Middle drawing is top down view and bottom drawing is side on. The bottom/ ceiling joists are 4x2s The void is about 140mm The length of horizontal pipe will be about 3.8m. So; Can I achieve enough fall along 3.8m with such a narrow void? How much fall would this be? How much can I notch out of the lower joists to achieve the fall? Does a smaller bore soil pipe exist, say 75mm? Will I need a vented pipe? (Don't even know what it is!) Am I trying to achieve impossible? Any help appreciated!
  12. How much wood can I notch out of a ceiling joists to get the fall I need for the soil pipe?
  13. Can someone tell me how to measure the opening of a first floor window to establish if it passes building regs for fire escape. I'm in dispute with council !!!
  14. No noggins Kitchen ceiling, joists, void, joists but no noggins. Stay there! I have another question for :)
  15. Carrerahill; good points made. The space is empty of anything but pipes as its under a catslide roof that we built a dormer window into to creat a bathroom and small cloakroom. I can feed the pipe from the outside as there is a long window bang in the way. I have 1.2m lengths of poo pipe but even these are hard to rotate( I get where you're coming from. I'll look into removing some joists as I hadn't considered that as an option. I think George thought I could put the loo on the outside wall and have the pipe external but there's no manhole that side if the house plus the window is there so no good. Appreciate your feedback
  16. See above drawing. The poo pipe in question will connect a new 1st floor cloakroom loo into an existing vertical soil stack. It's very tight access between the floor joists and the ceiling below. I think I can just about get the fall but not sure how to thread the horizontal poo pipe through the gap. How short can I make the sections?
  17. Conor, sorry but I don't understand. Can you elaborate for this civil ? Thanks
  18. That's a genuine question guys!
  19. Thanks for the feedback. Flexi pipe is a no go. I'll try again with shorter lengths as running the pipe above the floor wont work as there is a door in the way. Is there any limit yo how many joints I can use? Should they be glued or push fit?
  20. Thanks for the feedback. Flexi pipe is a no go. I'll try again with shorter lengths as running the pipe above the floor wont work as there is a door in the way. Is there any limit to how many joints I can use? Should they be glued or push fit?.
  21. 😄 🤣
  22. Thanks for the feedback. Flexi pipe is a no go. I'll try again with shorter lengths as running the pipe above the floor eont eork as there is a door in the way. Is there anynlimit yo hos many joins I can use? Shoukd they be glued or push fit?
  23. The joists are at right angle to the pipe so it's nigh on impossible to thread even short lengths . A flexi pipe eould be supported the joists it runs over. Any suggestions grateful received thanks
  24. Hello, I need to run a horizontal poo pipe between the joists and a suspended floor above. The distance is about 3m but not enough wiggle room to fit rigid 110mm pipe. Is is OK with regs to use flexi pipe for soil waste? It will have a slimline loo attached and will run in a straight line, no bends. Thanks
