I agree with everything you say but … electric consumption was projected to double in the U.K. by 2030 ( from memory ) gas / oil is a finite resource and therefore will always cost more to extract Environmental/ climate issues known for a long time No one could predict war / Covid / brexit - but the issues were known - just largely ignored . imho it was inevitable we’d end up here - but like everyone I couldn’t predict the path and speed .

When I had my SolarEdge battery installed the installer did say there was a local guy going completely off grid all year round . He has a 40kw pv array and battery . I asked what happened in winter I.e low pv ; apparently if he only generates say 2kw he uses 1 and makes sure he ‘banks’ 1 in the battery . I think he’s on a mission so no tv , laptop or welder to deal with - presumably no SWMBO also !

Average ( before rises hmo gas / electricity) bill 3k a year . From October 6k . I have 3 HMO’s like that . So 9k to find ( ignoring base rate increase !!! ) . Literally just increased some rents ( effectively bill part ) but hard to claw anything like 9k back ….

This bit is confusing. I don’t think it can island - but ‘blackouts ‘ are currently rare for me .At the moment my ‘bill’ is just the wanky standing charge aka ‘admin ‘ etc. Bs . Can’t complain though . 12 months from now when ‘ off peak ‘ is 15p kw and peak 70p you lot are (expletive deleted)ed ! 😉
