Title is rude . You should always respect other people’s boundaries and where you wish to discharge .

Yeah I always have things mains powered . I think newer z wave is better - but I do have some older z wave legacy components in place . Going to do a simple test once zigbee stuff arrives . 2 lights in a room , one z wave controlled other zigbee . Both triggered by the same Method at the same time . Both just 1 hop away from corresponding usb stick . Be interesting to see the ‘delay’ on either . But as you say ; time to probably move away from z wave .

My HA is all z wave . It’s pretty reliable . All powered no batteries . Can be slow responding for non obvious reasons at random intervals . Walk in a room , light turns on within a second . Other times 2 or 3 seconds . Occasionally 30 seconds ( once I’ve finished swearing ) It’s hard to know the issue . Z wave can only do 4 hops max and the amount of data is going to be small . A 30 second delay seems ridiculous. Anyway . Decided to get some zigbee stuff as a test . Christ is this stuff cheap if you get it direct from the land of the rising sun ! . Makes z wave seem very expensive . Anyone had zigbee for a while ???

I connected 1 at a time . Turned it on and wait ( maybe a leak maybe not - some times forgetting the other end of the pipe is open - which guarantees a leak 😁 ) Grow a pair and do as I say . This is the proper way . Not faffing with some air test kit to give you a false sense of security . I want water - and I want it now !

Nah . Do like me . Stick ‘em on the wall . Water on . Soon find out if there’s a leak 💪

Fill it with expanding foam . Then once cured poke holes in it to get required flow 👍 -

Can’t you just get a nice round plastic disc with a grill and use that as an outlet ? A flat ‘vent’ effectively -
No one commented on my studwork . I must be getting better 😁

Yeah I did think that . Not much timber against floor though . ( might do that anyway )

Struggled with a suitable title . I’ve got a door frame fixed in some stud . I can’t screw through into the concrete slab through fear of hitting ufh . The side the door closes against though is loose- can’t see a way to fix it ( easy to move ) . So for the moment I made this crude brace . Screwed to the frame then back to the osb wall . Does the job - but you know - there must be a better solution …?

Rationalise my smart home automation

For heating on its own I recommend genius hub .Been using this in 3 properties for years now . Main ‘issue’ is simply replacing batteries . I guess it all depends how much effort you want to integrate everything into 1 -
Rationalise my smart home automation

I’ve pretty much done everything you want onto 1 system . Did try a Mac based one ( support was poor ) . Fibaro hc3 , Vera etc . pc based homeseer appears to be the best . Be prepared for some work and confusion though ! -
Right ! Then I shall make it so ! The advantages with this method are no sparky required can change to zwave /zigbee/matter -whatever myself ( no Din stuff ) Gets the controllers out the IT cupboard so frees up space . Less wiring back to it cupboard and CU Which lights are controlled by which controller totally upto me As we will have a “ Swindon office block “ type ceiling I can alter light placement with ease . perfection !
-
Need to start thinking about my kitchen ceiling lights - all HA controlled . Rather than get a sparky in to add a zwave din and wire all the lights can’t I just wire them in parallel to a ‘ in the ceiling ‘ plug socket . Then I can change my automation z wave to maybe zingbee . No sparky required 😁 Kitchen lights all low wattage led - so no issue off a standard plug socket . Anything wrong with this plan ??
