  1. The house will be reasonably well insulated 150-175mm full fill block cavity with air tight measures put in place. Have only contacted one company about ashp and the 7k is what they have come back with which is a split indoor and outdoor Hitachi unit which could be connected to a 300l dhw tank at extra cost.
  2. Unit I have been quoted for is a Hitachi yutaki 14kw supplied installed and commissioned it is priced at £7k! Not sure I would want to self install. @jack no not near the sea, in the hills.
  3. Burning debate at present as to how I heat my house. Considering an ashp bit not sure it is worth the outlay. Only other option is oil. I have one quote in at the minute and there is probably 4k or so difference between the 2. Is an ashp that much better with ufh. What should I be looking out for? All advice and opinions welcome. No rhi available here in NI either.
  4. Folks, Im thinking of going ASHP any thoughts recommendations? Have any of you installed one or plan to. I have one quote and Im scouring google for other suppliers in NI any recommendations.
  5. Remember seeing a ceramic worktop at Belfast self build show, missus really liked it. My concern would be the fineness of it, was probably only about 10mm.
  6. That was a pretty good outcome, though it is always frustrating that you have to dig to get to the right people and potentially have to speak to the directors to get any traction. Trusses and felt will make a big difference to the look of the house over a relatively short period. You got your windows coming soon?
  7. On another note what came of your trusses? Your leading me to think a cut roof may be the way to go with the 5.5m spans that I have.
  8. So your saying Dee you dont need their initial approval before you start? Indications from planning I hopefully will have my approval early sept, architects doing technical drawings soon in prep for BC application. Sounds like I dont have as much time as I thought to get my lane etc in before the pressure to start building really hits.
  9. How long should I expect a building control application to take? Haven't got the plans approved yet but think we are close. Haven't done any work yet like laneway which was previously approved. Now trying to gauge my timescales to prevent a rush to get things done. Been enjoying the summer months with the kids too much.
  10. @Nickfromwales
  11. Have a look at ubnt.com they do great kit for wireless point to point links.
  12. What tech did you use to capture this timelapse
  13. I think that they are a clay tile if that makes any difference and full through coloured but thats probably a sales pitch. The development in hillsborough looked very well I have to admit and the tiles on approx 12 houses all looked the same having been installed at variant times. I am trying to establish how long the first house has been built.
  14. The rep (Chris) has sent me photos of installations and I also looked at a local development in hillsborough that has them installed in a variety of roof designs. I havent explored the price as yet but like the look of them. I do keep reminding myself that I will probably only ever look at my roof a handful of times when it is first installed. Curious as to what others thoughts and experience of them are and how they might wear/weather.
  15. Anyone looked at or used the Lagan building solutions snowdon tile? A different company from lagan tile but on the same road!
  16. Welcome Michael, we did wonder if we were ever going to see or hear of you again. Hope all is well and looking forward to hearing your latest progress. How's that render holding up?
  17. No real reason for as big a digger maybe no reason for a digger at all. ? I have 1.5 acres to play with so plenty of room.
  18. What do you local boys think of this machine. https://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/hitachi-ex60-digger/1175360333
  19. Haven't seen it running or researched it yet. Yes 6 tonne I believe and an older machine.
  20. Any thoughts on this machine https://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/hitachi-ex60-digger/1175360333
  21. I believe they measure it from pole to meter box but not necessarily as the crow flies. Will you be able to route it as indicated by your measurement? Have you been given a quote at all?
  22. Would love to do something like this when I get my site started. What camera etc did you use?
  23. Use an independent I would recommend Kilynview stonemasonry (google them) quality work but can't comment on price.
  24. I wouldnt really have an idea but sounds like someone that doesnt really want the job. Should be plenty of alternatives around your part of the world or close by.
  25. Just a quick google brought up this advice:- Avoid these common mistakes for longer-lasting exterior wood cladding Bear in mind this country’s damp climate means moisture is inevitable. It helps to avoid cladding north or east facing surfaces Get the timing right – to avoid warping and curling of green or freshly cut timber, clad your building between October and April to stop one surface drying faster than the rest Never install cladding before or during a heatwave Choose hardwood cladding, so much more durable than softwood Find an expert installer, not just any old builder If you’re going to use a wood finish, you will need a maintenance cycle to keep the cladding’s appearance up. Depending on the type of cladding, the wood finish or treatment used, which direction the surface is facing and also on how much wind, rain and sun the cladding gets will affect the maintenance period which could be anything from 2 to 5 years. Wood oils are easier to maintain as there is no need to sand the old finish off, just clean and re-apply If you’re in an urban area remember dirt and pollution will affect the colour and condition of your cladding. It can even make some timbers turn almost black, notably cedar
