is my present walk-on glazing?
-
ha ha....no, just a new 3-phase connection going in. it was about £20 more expensive to get 3-phase over single-phase. so it made it a bit of a no-brainer really.
-
both battery and PV. already got quotes for both and I'm just weighing up the size of PV array. do I stick with something around 6kWp or just fill the entire roof and end up with 9.5kWp. I'm seriously leaning towards just filling the roof! (using man-maths) just think of the money I can save by not having the roof tiled. ? that's seriously impressively cheap motoring and I look forward to being able to utilise my proposed setup to get that sort of MPGe.

don't give a **** about investment. 0-60 in 3.9s does it for me. ?

I'm on your side for this one @pocster! I'm not getting the PW2 for any sort of financial return. I want to reduce my reliance on the grid and store the electricity I generate during the day so I can use it at night. I applaud you for your decision. plus, get a model 3. I love mine. ?

I'm very interested in this and your thoughts. we're planning on getting a Powerwall 2 as well. look forward to hearing how you get on with it. ?

but 42.28 mpg is still better than a 'gas guzzling diesel' twin cab, right? and when you're not towing you get that lovely electric drive that just can't be beaten. ? and also doing your bit for the planet at the same time! win-win in my books.

looks or cost weren't mentioned in the discussion, just that there wasn't anything that would do the job. I was just pointing out that there could be something that would work not too far away. ? btw, I love the looks of it (and yet don't at the same time!). it's definitely a bold move by Tesla and, as usual, they don't conform to 'standard' ideas.

think this should have you covered. https://www.tesla.com/en_gb/cybertruck

looks fabulous. well done. thank you for the blog and sharing your journey, I have enjoyed reading it and I hope I have learnt something from it!

Windows....which company did you choose and why?
Thorfun replied to Tom's Barn's topic in Windows & Glazing
for us the country of origin wasn't a consideration despite us wanting to reduce our carbon footprint in general (we've chosen a local timber frame company for that reason). we wanted good quality windows at a decent price. simple as that. -

fair enough @craig. I think Internorm really wanted the job so they cut their prices drastically. I did get another Internorm quote from a different reseller and their quote was substantially more than the Gaulhofer quote. I apologise if I gave an unfair judgement to the quote you gave us but it really does just show how much variance there is in window quotes depending on the job, the retailer and the manufacturer. -

it's weird isn't it how the same manufacturers can be so different with quotes for different people. for us Ideal Combi were at the cheaper end of all our quotes and Gaulhoffer were more expensive that Internorm! we ended up choosing Norrsken, good price, service and quality of windows and doors. this all comes with the usual caveat that we've not had anything delivered or installed yet so my opinion could change. -

as long as it's the stuff that is antibacterial I'm sure they all do the same job! -

supply and commissioning only here as well. our quote states "Zehnder's ComfoTube ducting system" so if we don't get the Zehnder stuff I will see at the time if there's cause for concern. we've had to go for 4 manifolds though, 2 for the basement and then 2 for the above ground rooms. this will apparently help with fitting the 90mm ducts through the service void I have designed as we can send the larger duct from the MVHR unit through the service void to the manifolds above rather than running 15 x 90mm ducts. as well as other reasons that I was told and don't fully understand. I think it had something to do with pressure or air loss in the large manifold? and by having smaller manifolds it will make the system more efficient. something like that. anyway, it's not costing me more so I'm happy to go with their recommendations. ? -

all of the above is with the caveat that I haven't actually had the design finished yet nor received any components etc. so my opinion of Enhabit could always change as we progress with it all. -

Paul were cheaper on the design fee but more expensive on the unit as the price for the unit on the website is not available if you have them do the design as they include an extra on top for the 'journey' that you'll take together with them and for ongoing support. their website price is just for people who want to do it all themselves. I had both Paul and Enhabit quote and there wasn't a lot between them. in the end, for me it came down to Enhabit being more local to me (London as opposed to Scotland) and I had some really good chats with the guy on the phone and they reduced the design fee quite a bit. Plus they also do ASHP, Solar PV and other bits so I thought that if I went with them then I could maybe get them involved in the other aspects of the build that I'd need help with. I am sure I would've been happy with Paul though if I'd chosen them. -

I'm sorry I can't help with your questions, but can only tell you what we're planning. we're having the Q600 and are building a basement and two above ground floors for a total of about 440m2. We're using Enhabit to do the design and calculations as I didn't want to make a mistake on it and their price was really quite good for the equipment and so I thought the design fee was acceptable seeing as the total price wasn't much more than I could've bought the equipment myself online! When I was getting quotes I had 2 companies recommend the Q600 and both of them suggested using the larger 90mm ducts to get the air flow required at lower rates and this is what is currently being designed for us by Enhabit. So, maybe you could consider that to assist with your flow rates? like I said, probably not much help but thought I'd comment just in case it does help. -
Tall ceilings = tall windows and doors?
Thorfun replied to Conor's topic in New House & Self Build Design
2650 ground floor and 2100 windows and doors here too. hopefully it'll be fine! most our windows are down to floor level though so the whole window is 2100 high rather than starting at 900mm cill height. -
but....but....but.... @Ferdinand said you'd sold it.....? I really don't have a clue. think it's probably best for everyone that I stop trying to be funny. maybe my kids are right after all.
-
whoops. I missed the post that he's finally sold it. once again I see my finger is as far away from the pulse as is humanly possible. ?♂️ in my defence, though, his signature is still asking if someone wants to buy some walk on glazing.
-
easily done. annoying swmbo that is.
