  1. I am another one who did it myself, yes I struggled on my own.
  2. Specifics please (purely out of interest)
  3. I think I read that in house noise was a problem with GSHP,s ?, however how much noise, more than a gas or oil boiler?.
  4. Being retired in a house that’s finished with building kit left over and a nice workshop 🤷‍♂️
  5. I love a solution, I recently needed to replace a broken handle on my Strimmer, what do you think of my “solution” ?
  6. I didn’t use cellulose but used rockwall batts full fill in brick and block. It has a bba certificate for this and yes the outer brickwork was damp but did not penetrate the insulation ( I found this when when drilling for the ASHP pipes).

  8. I saw a news article talking about how power hungry data centres are and with AI growing the national grid will struggle to cope with the extra leky required.
  9. I once had a BCO say he didn’t like an SE,s calcs so told him to prove it was wrong!,!, he told me he was going to get their “in house” SE to look at it, never heard back and I carried on.
  10. Welcome, just bolt new posts to the side of the existing ones and buy 2ft panels to sit on top of the existing ones.
  11. I would tile it first, far easier and the stairs will rest on a solid base rather than estimating adhesive thickness.
  12. You have confirmation from the council on your position so crack on, even if she did complain it has to be a viable complaint (not I don’t like it) ignore her.
  13. I believe garage linked houses are called “linked detached”
  14. Not with what you’re neighbour has already done but I don’t believe you need planning.
  15. Perlins (in my previous jobs) but Depends on any walls supporting the ceiling/trusses as to what you can do. Any chance of a sectional drawing of the loft and walls below?. With regard limited height I installed flooring joists in between existing ceiling joists packed 20mm above the ceiling height to disconnect the floor/ceiling (noise buffer).
  16. Frankly I don’t think anyone would notice and if planners (who are way to busy) insist retrospective planning permission could be sought to align with your neighbour 🤷‍♂️
  17. My favourite for packers is thin hardboard.
  18. I have done a few and only had building Reg’s approval (with the owner confirming to his own satisfaction the original planning did not specify a garage had to exist).
  19. Bristol however only allows compliant wood stoves because of its location and population density.
  20. Welcome to the madhouse, you will fit in nicely. Seriously, good on you, lots of practical knowledge here from folk that have done it, we won’t all agree but we are a friendly bunch. Bring on the questions and we like lots of pics 👍
  21. Ha, I know, I live in one 🤷‍♂️my point was no two locations are the same so difficult to predict or legislate according to location.
  22. Regarding rural it’s more topography, I and my neighbours have wood stoves (well I do live In a forest 🤷‍♂️) and none of us suffer, Bristol and Sheffield are two cities that suffer from pollution because they are both built in a bowl so pollution tends to just sit there. however I agree that pollution generally needs curbing.
  23. Are you protecting a floor? That’s what that’s for. Furring?? Please expand
  24. I have done a couple of these so yes doable but a fair amount of work, I prefer glulams rather than steels.
  25. As far as I remember when I went to see him his conclusion was the local weather pattern in his valley was not measurable to be of use. Mind you most people here told me I would overheat with a 30m south facing conservatory which did not happen, yes a few days of Italian type weather (but that costs holiday money) .
