Calling all door trimmers! Calling all door trimmers! Carpets fitted yesterday! Whoooppppeee . (Now I need to remove my boots going upstairs or else it's ☠️ by the most painful method available to her) Today's challenge is to trim two doors to size. Here's the spec for one of them The lipping thickness for the bottom rail is 10mm . Because of the new carpets, I need to trim off a good deal more than that - roughly 20mm. The construction is wood or particle board. Can I trim the 20mm off and leave the bottom as particle board OR should I trim (say) 30mm off and make up a 10mm batten and glue and screw it to the bottom of the door? Thanks in anticipation .... (PS anyone know of some safety boots suitable for indoors (easy-on : easy-off) - already dropped the door on my stocking feet ?)

Use the search box on this site for DURISOL, that should give you a good insight to the ups and downs of the material and processes. There are other excellent ICFs each with their own characteristics. I would use Durisol again - but mainly because I know what to look for and what the pitfalls are. From memory @Jeremy Harris has written about this issue in some detail (link to follow if I can find it) In summary: don't worry about the issue: the average outage is less than four hours, so go and eat out, dig out the camping stove if you like, and put another dog on the bed if you are cold. The vast majority of us will not suffer greatly, so there isn't a good business case for the necessary investment in infrastructure. You are right. It is the most useful stimulus to creative thinking. Almost as useful a stimulus to thought as not having enough. As in ... We had a similarly bad perc test. How flat is your site? If there is a bit of slope and some space maybe you can use some of the suggestions on the SUDS site as @Jilly suggests? We have made a water garden which overflows to a small filter bed, an attentuation pond and a proper pond which simply overflows down the slope. BCO didn't bat an eyelid.

Thats the one. Currently we are covering our costs on monthly income and selling stuff ( for example digger, scaffolding, other bits and bobs) . Our set up is almost exactly the same as @Russdl. Our Sunamp is a 13.7 Kw machine, and it sucks every last drop of PV we produced (except for a couple of days) this year. Currently, we're lucky if we get a Watt or two per day. We use an Eddi Diverter. We missed the FIT - bit of a bummer but I'm not moaning (yet, - don't tempt me to). We haven't swopped tarrifs (Octopus) yet for cheap overnight charging for the SunAmp, but that job is on the list of lists of lists somewhere for me to do soon. We are using 5 SensorPush data loggers placed round the house to see how it performs. Cleaning up the data from those sensors is a bit of a nightmare, but when I have some time, we'll be able to analyse the data and make evidence-based decsions.

Ermmmmm Russ, I think the OP mentions plastic cills only, not windows. ?. But the point you make about plastic windows and their low U value is spot on. PS Woops: speed reading: Russel Griffiths is always right, should have learned that by now .....?

Made our own cills. Had to be careful about the detailing This was the initial drawing..... In the end I tucked the DPM underneath the window frame and secured it to the back of the window frame with a long batten. The outer frame is also sealed properly to the cill (sill). Pulling the cill backwards (into the house) with a 120(ish) stainelss screw by pre-drilling into the back of the cill was quite tricky (for me anyway), but it compressed the seal extremely well. The image misses the external membrane, and I'm sure I've missed a few details, but here's a start....

C'est magnifique ca, non? For me the trouble with IKEA is the corner cutting in terms of specification. The look is fine - until you touch it, listen to a door close, watch a drawer stick, see a screw point poking through the laminate.

1. Yes. Although the word 'normal' is, in this context a little misplaced 2. We cannot, at this remove, guess motive. 3. No. How you react to other people is unique. One person's pressure can be anothers gentle joke. As in the post immediately above, one man's duplicity is anothers forgetfulness. The Internet is full of examples of people objecting to planning applications. Read some. Make your own mind up about the application and : say what you think based on evidence, not feeling.

@Marvin, when you bleed the radiator, does that process result in an immediate increase in temperature at the top of the radiator? And if so, is there a subsequent reduction in temperature at the top of the rad? If thats happening, it might well be that the rad is being supplied by air from downstream in the system
