Take advice from a property qualified accountant. One with a keen eye for detail - and some emotional intelligence.

Thanks boys. My mate is coming round today with his set of sockets. Thanks @Sandybay. We should manage to get the job jobbed. @Barney12 - thanks for the tip. My mate also recommends Bahco, so I think I'll give them a try. Loss Adjuster arriving tomorrow. That should be fun then .... I'm sure he's a very nice man ? -

Yep. Forgot to tension them, so today, while digging the water pipe in, the track popped off the front follower. ? -
The track can off my digger today.... no sweat, I can fix it: never done it before, but I'm sure I can. I think. Now then, where's that socket set eh? (to release the nut that releases the track tension) Bugger. It's been nicked - along with all the other stuff that they made off with the other day . And haven't I just gone and submitted the insurance claim form. (expletive deleted)ety(expletive deleted). [? Fair enough - Mods lose it sometimes too] Any idea which socket set I should buy. Good workman-like set with impact sockets too. Suggestions?

Ring Chris Perfect (I kid you not: his name is as written) at Kingspan and ask for a tapered insulation design and quotation. All he'll need is a plan and your target U value. Smashing bloke. But costly but ...... 01544387333. Once you have that you'll be able to compare prices. Loads of others do tapered insulation - Kingspan's was the best overall offering for what we needed.

A wind post? Easy. Any post written by @Nickfromwales. ?

Welcome. In relation to stress, some days I quite enjoy it, others , well - it gets me down. But I sure as Hell have learned to stress only about serious stuff. Without BH, I'd have sunk, long ago. It's the sometimes dark humour that helps most. Most of the things I used to stress about are now simple niggles. Like my leaking flat roof

New water supply - plumber required?
ToughButterCup replied to BotusBuild's topic in General Plumbing
Your Utility company will answer all those questions (United Utilities in our case). For us the answers were; Yes. 900mm below ground level, with a protective wire reinforced plastic mesh laid at 300mm below ground level. There was no infill spec. But the inspector suggested ' ... soft earth ...' Use ducting. You need a non return valve and a stop tap. -
Welcome. Getting the blend right in terms of sleeves rolled up and working with trades is / can be difficult. I mean its bad enough when wives turn up on site in high heels and snarl ' Don't tell me what to do mate' , rapidly followed by 'How does this tape measure work?' I'm off to look for a stone to crawl under for quite a while .... where's me coat??

You are very welcome. Ian

Hmmmmmmm, Cheshire. Must be rich then.......? Most, if not all of my cock-ups are documented here on BH . @Pete is being a bit creative with the truth - he's done a lot of self this and that, and his place is really very interesting - only seen it from the otuside (still waiting for an invitation, mind!). That owl worries me a bit. Principally because the ecology part of our house build was an expensive exercise - but ultimately very successful aspect of the build. The ecology needs handling with care. And by that I mean not allowing interest groups to push their agenda to the extent that they sometimes do. PM me if you like..... ?

Welcome. Where to start you ask. Anywhere. Work out from there Just do it, You do have Planning permission don't you?

Fixing a back-box onto fresh air (well, nearly)
ToughButterCup replied to ToughButterCup's topic in Power Circuits
oooooowwwww ! ? assseasy innit ! Foam ... I like that. And I've even got the bubblegum errrr, glue -
The design of our (ICF -Durisol) house means that a small section of the insulated front wall is inside the house - inside the heated envelope. And why wouldn't we need to fix a back-box into the insulated part of the wall ? ....?, I mean come on this is our build, not anyone sensible, or someone with half a brain ... As you can see, the backbox is (in this case too small - 47mm one on order) sitting on the insulation. This is where the back box sits in the wall There's just over 200 mm of insulation and then concrete behind that. Its naughty to put electrics next to insulation innit? Do I have to dig out all the insulation and plug the gap with wood or something? Or can I just get a jinormous screw then drill through to the concrete and fix it in that? Or just knock the house down and start again.....

Its Monday morning ....?

Welcome. Have you seen this? Probably in the wrong place for you but it's 5 minutes from the M6 (J32). If you are ever planning to go to the Lakes in Cumbria, it's well worth an hour or two. They are a very welcoming lot - I understand they also offer advice to others considering co-housing (but I haven't checked that recently).

You've also seen the trousers Dave. ?

Nailed. And, to lighten your evening, have a laugh at my ineptitude while doing the same job ..... ?.
