  1. A universal truth. Well said Gus. Effort is appealing. And self building requires it in spades.
  2. Oh by the way, if you leave those car doors open for any length of time, the batteries will run flat. Jus' saying....
  3. Welcome Young-Un. Lend us a fiver will ya? Should get mine finished for that . Thanks in anticipation.
  4. Neither would I. And I have one. Jezza, ( @Jeremy Harris ) of blessed memory on this forum built a little out-house for his. Kind of puts 'smallest-room-in-the-house' into perspective. What's near mean? Noise travels on the wind. Downwind, ours is silent. Upwind we can hear it if we listen hard.
  5. Any mileage - now - in looking for UK-manufactured windows?
  6. Zoot: that's the root of your frustration. Over dependance on just a few people's help. At the moment you appear to rely on the generosity of BH too much. Have a look around, waste some time on YT researching the same topics....
  7. I'd like to say thanks to all of you who continue to contribute to this thread. Now retired, I have many years experience of running online programs in professional contexts. This thread offers challenges which would cause many to disengage. I'm inspired by the extended kindness and generosity shown here. BH is a good place to be .
  8. I'm out of hours now, but itching to get back when I finish this place. Being able to take a joke when it hurts your / bank balance / loyalty / ego / muscles / brain / feelings is a hard-won set of skills. And applicable across all sectors, professions and trades. And I'm glad (now) of all the aggro I've had in years gone by. Almost all of the serious stuff, was far worse than my collapsed wall, or leaking roof, or run-ins with duplicitous plumbers. Humour levels. It also enables you, on occasion and when appropriate, to growl in peoples ears with suprising levels of authority.
  9. It does if you get the landing wrong ... (Private Pilot's License)
  10. It's universally applicable for anything thats hard work: Cant take a joke don't; get married go fellrunning do a PPL buy walk on glazing ....
  11. Well, I've found my invisible damp patch .... erm rephrasing, an invisible damp patch - a weep caused by condensation. So my roofing felt must be ripped some 'ow. Which is a bit annoying: but Can't take a joke ? Don't self build.
  12. Hmmm, I'm thinking of offering Mr Z a loan of my Bosch fermal camera wot I bought wiv my Christmus money.
  13. Part of the joy of plumbing - for me anyway - is getting to grips the way in which the trade talks to non-trade people. Like Zoot, bless him - and me. All plumbers know what an iron is, but I use one to process her blouses after washing. It was just brilliant watching and listening to an arsey female counter assistant in a plumber's merchant the other day : here goes ...... Overheard at a local plumbing depot: a real proper plumbers merchant, smelling of paraffin, sweat, linseed and thinners - Single lightbulb on at the hatch where sits a Ditsy Teeny Blond Bomshell : her nail varnish bottle out on the counter: cotton wool blob and nail file and thinners bottle open - slightly heady scent. One hand waving to and fro to dry the nail she had accidentally painted a few seconds ago. A local plumber beats me to the counter: smiles at the lass who's now on her second nail of the day .... Y' awreet mert? she says sweetly, while looking at nail number three Aye 'Appen ye've sum 3/4 irons in then? Wadja mean 22 mill? Nahh, I need sum three quarters Pause: by now nail number three had a wet edge, and so needed constant attention We've got sum inch in if that'd do ya? Nahh, I need three quarters really. Ditsy promtly turns and shouts to some hidden Golum deep in the bowels of the warehouse. I cant pretend to remember what she said because I didn't understand it. I speak four languages, and Plumber isn't one of them. Golum replied: which langauge does Golum speak? - because I understood not a word. Not a syllable. The plumber left. My turn. Do you sell HEP2o ? The shock of the question actually stopped her nail painting - eyed me suspiciously. 'S all Speedfit 'ere. And got on with nail number 4 I stood there for a moment and wondered if I should ask her what an inch iron was. Because I was going to give her one. Didn't have the guts.
  14. Sir, people are allowed to be wrong.
  15. Every discipline has its own terms and special ways of applying them. Designed almost to keep people like Zoot and me OUT of plumbing, just like doctors give things Latin names - anyway keeps me out of brain surgery. Cos if I'd have been a brain surgeon, I'd have replaced Donald Trumps brain by now. And mine.
  16. Hellfire mate! Something I can help with. Yes there is. Geberit Wandklosett Flexible PE Sheet 90 x 90 MM, 241521001 Made my eyes water in terms of price. Annoyingly, unavailable currently on Amazon. If you need to get it from The Fatherland, I'll dig around a see if I can lay my hands on one. No subtitles needed ?
  17. This is not a paid for professional service where you might properly expect measured responses from all contributors. Nobody can know exactly what's meant by written text. So much gets - as you say - lost intranslation. Thats normal. This board is a teaching and learning resource. It does not offer a Members' Needs Analysis such as those offered by other online teaching formal, paid for teaching institutions . So respondents to your posts cannot know what you dont know. But, out of kindness, they respond anyway. Thats why it is very suprising indeed that you react with visible frustration at the perceived quality of responses. One technique which is very powerful in online teaching and learning is to ask the person posting to summarise what he or she thinks she has learned. As a simple post - just bullet points. That does three things, It reassures readers that you have made an effort to understand them It allows time for you to internalise some of the teaching Its helps set the agenda for further development. Try it. Please.
  18. Families are great. We all have one. A place to share stuff informally. A safe place in which to try things out and see if they work. Bridging the gap from informal to formal ( i.e. professional) is frought with the opportunity for mis-communication. I have seen many instances of the bridge between family and professional services being put under strain. On the other hand, nobody would have told me of those instances when it all went well.
  19. Online, you could not want for a more patient, polite or kind environment in which to share your build challenges. Look at the page count. Re-read just some of the members' responses with care. Work out, briefly, how much time you have been given by BH members - for nothing. Generous does not even begin to cover it. Build Hub is not the only online resource in this sector.
  20. Ask the manufacturer of the ICF. They will (might) have an approved list.
  21. Welcome. Good luck with the planning aspect of things. Since this is your first post could I suggest you have a look through the planning threads? And also have a play with the search facility on the site: its very powerful To help you, as an example, I've done three searches for the topics you highlighted in your post above - and link to them below. Metal stair cases Bi-fold doors ( You might try different spellings of bi-fold ) Kitchen Islands You are starting out at a difficult time - BH is a very supportive group though. Best of luck. If you want some walk on glazing @pocster has some , and don't worry about @Russell griffiths, he's actually quite tame. ?
  22. Mais cherie, je suis trop jeune pour ca, non?
  23. Here's a YouTube search list with the terms balancing and radiators.
  24. Zoot, this thread is the perfect case study of how difficult it is to explain (teach) and learn online. Most of the contributors here have forgotten more than you or I will ever know about radiators and balancing. And I venture to suggest they've never been taught anything about how to teach ab initio members of the public in an online resource. So everyone's groping around trying to help: and you are groping around trying to learn. Both your job, and theirs is incredibly difficult. It might be an idea to spend a little time ( maybe a post ? ) summarising what you think you have learned about radiators and balancing. Write it in simple bullet points as a list. Then those who still want to help might be able to see more clearly what help you need.
  25. Try Babylon Berlin. Plenty of walk-on-glazing to be seen there. And one or two actors who will prolly get your heart rate up ; a bit.
