Can you get up into the roof space or find some way if looking in there? At least if there are bats hibernating in there you will be prepared for what's to come.

Oh bugger, I'm far past sober and not looking forward to that on Monday!

Thanks, Peter. I confess to being a complete ignoramus when it comes to door sizes, especially if it's not in the Howdens catalogue!

NThe ground floor of my new build is higher than average and the internal door openings are correspondingly higher. I have 2 sets of double doors leading off the hallway and one single door between the utility and kitchen. The height of the opening on these is 2300mm rather than the standard 2100mm. It looks like I need to order doors to be made to size as I don't want to pack down the opening and lose the additional height as this will throw off the proportions of the rooms. Does anyone have any suggested suppliers of internal door suppliers who offer bespoke sizes?

When the cellulose was put into my house recently, Gordon, the guy who did the job, commented about the lack of fluffer-upper machines in the UK and Europe. His was imported from the US. Perhaps the other thing is the need to seal the walls. Having seen how easily the cellulose escapes from the smallest of gaps when blown under pressure, I imagine it could be difficult to install in interior walls, especially once services are embedded into them.

Extractors: Gaggenau vs Bora vs Miele
vivienz replied to curly's topic in Kitchen & Household Appliances
I contacted a supplier for a quote on the Novy panorama - a very stylish bit of kit. Sadly, way out of my price range as the best price they would offer was £3580. Eek! I thought the Gutmann abajo was expensive (quoted £2300 inc VAT) but not stratospherically so like the Novy one. Never mind.- 39 replies

Does that mean I can't wear my beekeeping suit?

I can't say I'm looking forward to it, but has to be done. I may wear my beekeeping suit!

Norrsken are worth a try. They offer supply and fit passive windows and doors and are based in Poole.

Thanks! Do you have any opinion on the panorama v. the abajo? I didn't like most of the pop up extractors but i do quite like the panorama.- 39 replies

@ryder72 Am I missing something on the Novy Panorama? I've been having a look at the Novy panorama combined hob and extractor (with a recirculation option) but I don't think it will work with a standard kitchen as the depth of the vent that sits inside a cabinet is 770 - 840mm but standard base units are only 720mm deep. I may need to stick with the Gutmann abajo as the depth needed for the extractor fits into a standard kitchen base unit. Pity, it was nice to have an alternative to consider.- 39 replies

Thanks both. I found a splendid local sawmill and they are sorting it out for me - delivery by the end of the week.

I checked the size in imperial in case it was something like that, but it's about 1/8 of an inch smaller than each of those dimensions.

I need to get hold of some batten, 35mm x 48mm. This is the size that MBC use for their internal service batten but it doesn't appear to be a standard size. We're going to start boarding out shortly and the battens aren't at 400 centres so my choice is to have all the board cut or put in additional battens and the latter seems much simpler, if I can get the timber. I've tried Sydenhams and Travis Perkins so far but with no success and I'm waiting for a reply from MBC as to where they sourced the stuff that went into my building. Any suggestions, anyone?

I have been planning to have a Gutmann Abajo but it's interesting to see the comments about Novy. Even more interesting to see their prices! I may consider alternatives.- 39 replies

The instruction to do this was probably printed in white ink on the white paper of the instruction manual.

Life will go on. We won't suddenly have the entire UK population out of work and the pound valueless on intetnational money markets. It may take a little time to settle but there are also other suppliers than in the EU. We have recently started sourcing some raw materials for work from Mexico rather than Germany. Nothing to do with brexit, everything to do with better prices and better service , even with import duties and higher transport costs.

I received an email this evening to say that DIY Kitchens have a sale on selected kitchens. The one I want is in that lot, with 10% off, so I shall be ordering mine this weekend for a January delivery.

Just be grateful that the planning laws and costs don't have a quantum entanglement with a parallel universe that has even worse regulation. On the other hand, that could go some way towards explaining them.

Surely, if it's owned by nobody, there is nobody to serve notice, therefore you don't need to advertise? Have I missed something or is nobody about to burst into being, kind of like the universe after the big bang?
