I presume the utilities benefit from carbon credits and that makes it cost effective and offsets there oil burning power generators. Usual US business strategy - think of profits long term rather than UK's tear your arms off short term. Example being costco's US policy of stack it high and sell it cheap, and in UK there policy is f**k em and charge what we can.

I looked at PV with ASHP but cant make the sums add up considering winter months and the array size required. I understood that the unit uses a viessmann boiler unit to act as a backup heating/HW if demand exceeds the amount stored. the co2 reduction comes from onsite electricity production, removing supply losses from the equation. They claim mains electricity production and supply as only 44% efficient at point of use...so presumably the fuel cell reduces co2 by whatever %, it is also a low temp chemical conversion so no Nox pollution. As Joe90 pointed out...the Japanese have 500,000+ units installed so far and its doubtful the Germans entertain producing a product with no meaningful benefit. None of the data I have read mentions gas usage per Kw of heat and electricity produced although average efficiency across the year is reported as 192%... the cost of unit is quite high. Just about to start building and with the £7000 grants coming in April 2022 it might be an easier and more consistent solution than PV with ACHP.

Its good to see comments based on knowledge of the product NOT... it uses Natural gas to split and takes the hydrogen to feed fuel cell while retrieving exothermic heat to heat a water tank.

Most tanks are designed that once the main tank body is concreted or strapped then you just backfill above with soil or gravel. I would worry the tank is not strong enough if it had to be light weight backfill

I used a manual mortar gun and that was great if your mix was right but terrible if wrong and would hydraulic in tube, an electric one would burn out pretty quick if you get mix wrong.

what about render mesh...big rolls but easy to cut, and probably a darn site cheaper

My thermally broken windows are going to sit with 15mm overlap on exterior block wall but the cavity closer extends 25mm past the window exterior. Has anybody had experience of rendering on to Cavity closer upvc?

Got an issue where the PO has pushed us to accepting a crap colour for our render as he believes it should reflect the agricultural purpose of the original building, to speed things up we just accepted as he has not removed the PP development and this should allow us to change colour once signed off by building Inspector. The condition only states 'the condition is discharged subject to implementation'..so not in perpetuity. Building Inspector has suggested just doing it the colour we want in the first place as he is only interested in technical. Anyone got ten penneth on this?
