  1. Have a look at Senior architectural systems (SAS).. they manufacture a system in ali called 'Pure' that meets passive in windows and .9uw in bi folds.
  2. Joe90# Did you access the various lintels for u values before deciding on concrete?
  3. split/ separate lintels
  4. masonry walls, 200mm cavity with 3m opening and deciding on split lintel for inner cavity wall... which would be most thermally efficient, concrete or steel box? anyone with experience?
  5. Its in very firm ground, and digger bucket will no doubt make a bigger hole. .its just the fannying around with 10mm mesh sheets when realistically 2 x 10mm parallel steels with occasional cross steel would deal with any problems along the strip.
  6. markc Why would it need a full cage? I would have thought the side shear force on a narrow 3:2 footing would be very low and the SE obviously believes the ground is sufficient. I am really suprised he wants short bars its so narrow.
  7. Single leaf wall single storey on strip with with insulated internal raft for inner cavity -see Kore design 5a. Strip is 300 x 200 at 650 ground depth...I thought it was a bit overkill on a narrow strip...asked if i could just use 2 long steels but he wants cross steels as well. I also need it for raft ring beam.
  8. My SE has specd' A393 steel mesh for 300mm wide strip footing, does anyone know any suppliers of trenchfill mesh i.e only 0.2m wide x 4.8m long rather than cutting down full size sheets. I know other countries supply as standard to builders but can not find UK supplier
  9. Hip to gable is within permitted development, as are dormers as long as you stick to the rules. see rules below https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/830643/190910_Tech_Guide_for_publishing.pdf Its surprising how many developments are refused with planning when they dont actually need planning . I am sure the architects are taking the proverbial not telling clients when it can be done under PP.
  10. latest email from SE blames need for wide strip footing on non flexing wall ties and any differential movement...He never thought to ask for spec on basalt wall ties! So will see how he deals with having details.
  11. Single storey with Ridge height at 3.2m so not a heavy weight...unless he thinks the mass in the floor will stop it blowing away.
  12. I gave my SE Kore design pdf written by Tanner engineering with regard to one of his designs-see images. Got back a design with strip footing at 800 x300, ring beam at 450 x 300 and main slab as 150 deep which reduces insulation + only 7mm mesh rebar! ...but no calcs. The ground is firm clay/mudstone so no issues with loading. Should I push for him to do full calcs as it appears he has just drawn what he knows will work structurally. any advice grateful Kore_Insulated_Foundations_Report 12.pdf 21-093.01 Structural Plans and Details (A1).pdf
  13. Is the village washed over with Greenbelt or does it have a boundary? If its washed over then this may help your case as development is needed to increase housing stock...but I have generally found planners take the approach that anything new rather than conversion or replacement, is encroachment and impacts openness and inconsistent with greenbelt policy and NPPF. As they deem your garden as PDL is a good start, screening the garden with high hedging from views onto the area also goes a long way on application and/or appeals.
  14. I was looking to hand form wet room floor..the issue is obviously locating initial drain position accurately before pouring concrete and as contractor doing the work I know there needs to be some adjustment allowance
  15. Anyone laid a drain for shower when building a passive slab? need to locate the pipe in final position before concrete pour but is there a way to ensure you can move the pipe +/- a couple of inches if not in exact position.

  17. Nothing, love Ireland, North and South and spent a lot of time as a Kid there. My father worked for Time Life and was involved in creating replicas of the book of Kells. I was referring to location of border and Quinn businesses.
  18. Anyone know of a nesting/optimisation software or online site (free) for calculating and layout of insulation boards for floor/roof?
  19. You only have to look at the location of Quinn factories to believe the rumours of how Sean made his money...I met his accountant once, he lived in York..nice old fellow but obviously kept his distance from Ireland.
  20. Tapered roof insulation...I am struggling to get my head around the u value on tapered roof insulation. Surely cold bridging is unaware of an average U value...and will occur at the thinnest point of insulation. Am I overthinking this unnecessarily.
  21. not started build yet so can be integrated during build
  22. Morning all, any suggestions on suppliers or diy cavity closers for 200mm in block/block cavity... would benefit from being cheap and able to accept frame fixings ..or am i dreaming
  23. Cant afford ridiculous cost of BS, but according to Axter the BS 6229 : 2018 – Flat roofs with continuously supported flexible waterproof coverings – Code of practice states zero fall roofs can be designed to 1 in 80. I would be using EPDM.
  24. Does Building regs trump British standards? House build limited to 3.2m ridge, architect is designing roof to 1 in 40 as he says thats the regs to allow for bad tolerances and any sag as per regs...but this dramatically lowers ceiling height. I would have thought that modern materials and web joists would allow a 1 in 80 design that retains 1 in 80 slope. BS:6229 allows design and build at 1 in 80 - so Building regs or British standards?
