  1. Where the towel rail is in the first plan above would it be possible to put the sink there and perhaps turn the toilet 90 degrees to face the sink rather than face the door?
  2. I used an old pillow stuffed into a bin bag with a few holes in the bag at the bottom to stop the bag becoming mouldy. That solution won't fleece like those expensive chimney sheep, which are shear rubbish, methinks. Ewe could use a pillow too, just ram it up the chimney! Baa humbug? 😄
  3. 5 yellows not 50 shades of grey 🤣
  4. I am not a slave to fashion. It took me five attempts to get the right shade of sunshine yellow for the south-facing kitchen walls. I live in grey Glasgow so there's enough grey here on a daily basis. The cheerful sunshine yellow I chose for the walls brightens my day every day!
  5. When I needed to contact Building Control urgently I sat in the lobby of the Building Standards office with a letter for Building Standards and a good book to wile away the hours. I had to leave at closing time without managing to have a face-to-face meeting. When the building control officer came to my home the following week he mentioned that he dealt with my letter first because he had 240 emails in his inbox on average that had to be dealt daily.
  6. Have you considered doorframe pullup bars or Ritalin? 🙃
  7. I am about to have the old entrance front porch door replace with a split single French door. Access with a wheelchair is occasionally needed. Is aluminium the only type of low threshold bar available and if so, does installing a low threshold bar create more heat loss? Read up on u-values of threshold bars etc but I am none the wiser as each company rates theirs as the best!
  8. Did you stick to your plan and use eco grid? If so, would you recommend using eco grid? Thanks
  9. Plan B to add ply layer over old floor. So much going on here that I might have heard screed in my dreams currently aka nightmares...
  10. Let them scoff and don't give a hoot. I am having amtico flooring installed soon. The builder wants to screed the floor before the amtico tiles are installed. Is this the correct treatment for the old wooden floating floor on to which the amtico tiles will be laid?
  11. The builder has just removed the vented plasterboard on the former fireplace and plaster over the whole wall. The chimney is on an external wall. I think it should be ventilated to prevent condensation but the builder says no. SOS! Where is the other thread please.
  12. Have you thought of going out late at night to slowly but surely kill off the roots of their trees and bushes which have extended into your garden? I had to get rid of a hazelnut tree which was blocking out the light and precariously close to a retaining wall. I bought a product from the organic garden catalogue to kill off the stump. I think it was called amicide. It worked a treat. There seem to be plenty of other environmentally friendly ways of killing off the roots late at night, just google for answers.
  13. I have a 1930s house too with a slate roof. The house was built by a reputable builder in 1939 to be exact. Occasionally, due to high winds, a slate or two will need replaced. Fortunately there is a local roofer who does the repairs and his bill is always reasonable. One of his other customer, my nextdoor neighbours, had their slate roof replace during summer this year. I asked him if I should consider replacing mine. He thought it would be a waste of money in my life time because the durability of a slate roof should be about 100 years. I'm already a golden oldie therefore I feel sure that I will be pushing up daisies long before the slate roof here needs replace!
  14. by Der Vogel aka Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The food in das cafe is not bad at all and it's only a stone's throw from the recently refurbished Burrell Collection costing the locals a mere £30m with top ups to the tune of £68.5m from other sources. I give guided tours on Tuesday!
  15. Answer: The Hill House, Helensburgh for the interior and the House for Art Lovers for the exterior?
  16. Is this a quiz? Name that building,,,
  17. Had a discussion with a plumber today who suggested that wet wall panels offer a better finish than tiles due to the issues with grout in years to come. However I am not 100% convinced that wet wall panels are without issues too. If it is a question of taste and panels are marginally better than tiles then I would go for tiles as there is a better choice of colours. Any advice please concerning the pros and cons of both wet wall panels and tiles. Thank you. ps This topic is in the wrong category but I was unable to choose the "Kitchen and Bathroom" sub-category, the slot stayed blank when I tried to do so.
  18. If the search party is still out hunting tell them I bought a dehumidifier which has a "dry clothes" setting from Aldi several years ago, other makes available etc. This week Aldi is offering an electric clothes drier in the online sales, which claims to cost 11p per hour to run. BTW, I use captured water from the dehumidifier for my plants, much better than the nasty stuff that comes from the tap

  20. Supposedly "more resistant to water swelling than standard laminate flooring, making it the ideal choice for kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and commercial areas" and alas I am not getting commission, for promoting this product...
  21. Where is this brilliant tiler nowadays?
