recomendations of PV companies/brands?
Barryscotland replied to Mike_scotland's topic in Photovoltaics (PV)
We looked at the Viridian in roof system as it was all we could get sourced locally (Edmunds Electrical Dundee keep them) but ended up ordering JA Solar an GSE online as much cheaper and as good reviews although panel is not as nice to look at -
Our roof is slate straight onto sarking, do I need to put down a frame for the GSE frames to sit on to allow the linking of the panels and ventilation to the panels or can I mount straight to the sarking and drill into the Coombe of the roof for cabling?. Anybody done a guide to the installation to keep us right? Its an 8 panel system, 2 rows of 4

If we choose to add a kitchen Island at later date is it going to be an issue that there is under floor heating pipes below it other than not being able to screw it to the floor and the cupboard being a bit warm? Also if a stove is added in the living room later down the line?

Is wind and water tight the same as kit erection if comparing a quote? The quotes don't have a breakdown just Joinery fee's to wind and water tight stage, or kit erection, presumed they are the same thing but are they?

Many thanks for your replies, we went with the continuous dry verge from here https://www.dryvergeandrooflinedirect.co.uk/collections/continuous-dry-verge/products/type-s-slate-continuous-dry-verge?variant=40599896162494 They where able to supply the black in 6m lengths so no joining required.

Roofer has turned up and started grading and holing our slate but has said that he doesn't want to cement the verge as the cut slate wont get much of a grip and has asked me to source him some sort of plastic dry verge. Our PVC Fascias are already fitted up the verge so can anybody suggest an option that is readily available and wont look Knaff? Only thing I can see is continuous dry verge and nobody stocks it.

I'd wait for prices to fall if they ever do. Our cost so far is up by a third from what was originally budgeted.

fitting windows before roof slated?
Barryscotland replied to Barryscotland's topic in Windows & Glazing
Windows getting fitted this week then, many thanks for the assurances -
Probably yet another stupid question but is it OK to fit the windows and french doors before the roof is slated? Will the timber frame settle a bit and then things wont open after the weight of the slate is added?
-
Best thing you can do is send your floor plans and underfloor make up to somebody like Wunda or VPS and they will give you a rough quote listing all materials, amount of zones etc.

No the price of £233 a cube is for cemfloor liquid screed delivered to site only. The pump and couple of guys is extra
-
Yes
-
Has anybody bought cemfloor screed or similar recently and mind sharing the price? Being quoted £233 a cube which seems pretty steep when compared to the £86 a cube we paid for concrete.
-
They where not listed separately but I’d assumed they where included in ironmongery under “all necessary fixtures and fixings” but apparently not.

Are the galvanised tie downs for anchoring the frame to the foundations normally included in the timber frame kit?

We are currently comparing window quotes and Liniar are coming in cheapest, anybody ever used them? Other option we have are Veka. I no they are bottom of the barrel brands but funds are tight. So basically if you had to choose would it be Liniar or 1k more for Veka?

We need to take delivery of our attic trusses a month before we need them to avoid another increase in the price of them. There 9m long an there’s 45 of them. I was thinking of cementing a couple of scaffold poles into the ground and making a frame of scaffold to support them. Any ideas / advice appreciated

Tracking online prices - web scraping
Barryscotland replied to Moonshine's topic in Building Materials
The price of metal has gone up almost as much as timber. A252 3.6x2 mesh when bought for founds was £27 in April, bought it for subfloor in July £38, was a sheet short when laid out this week £68. -
Underfloor slab shows no expansion gap or dpc?
Barryscotland replied to Barryscotland's topic in Foundations
Yes -
Away to be pouring our concrete slab next week, neither SE drawings or architect wall plate drawing show an expansion gap or dpc on the under slab but do for the finishing screed. Should I be putting them in anyway

Our static caravan is right in front of the house so we wouldnt of been able to connect it all up until the caravan was moved is the only reason I can think of. Spoke to the plumber and he is wanting a waste up through the sub floor at all toilets and showers and sinks. He did say we can use AAV in the house and we can run the one foul to atmosphere we need out the house and up the existing shed wall so dont need boxes up each room and out the roof.

Needing advise, guidance with our foul waste drainage. First of all is it just the one waste pipe we need to run in the sub floor to each room that needs drainage then sort out the bath shower etc drainage through the insulation before the screed is poured? Also our SE design shows 4 SVP which in my mind means 4 pipes boxed in and 4 vents in the roof? Can there not be one SVP at the end of the run and AAV in the other rooms?

I've had a price from wunda £2415 using wunda wireless stats and a price from them using NeoAir v2 wired stats £1545. Is the extra cost of the wireless stats offset by the sparky not having to wire them in? Worth paying the extra for the Wunda stats? Anybody any experience of using either type?
