It's plastic, called monarflex. It's terrible for condensation.

Where you the guy I helped find this for on reddit? 😂
-
They are slates, just not natural.
-
It's not, it's cement fibre.
-
Could be potential cost difference, I'd ask the roofer to give you a new breakdown of costs.

What is the size of natural slates specified v the artificial ones?
-
It's a Delta tile, they don't make them anymore but you can find them online on gumtree,fb marketplace etc.
-
It's definitely not a marley tile, your best bet is contacting a reclamation yard and providing them photos.

The lead goes directly on top of the building paper.

Chinese Slates or Reclaimed Welsh Slates or Clay Tiles?
makie replied to JamieK's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
Chinese are awful, same as Brazilian in my opinion. Good quality Spanish like cupa H3's are extremely good. -
Why would you use hallhooks on a cement fibre slate repair? That's what the copper rivets are for.

Yeah that's a lot of BS, we've had the same issues in Scotland with that felt. On slated roofs we don't have battens and it's still an issue. Just a cop out from them making a shitty product.

Best way to remove just a double row of slates (vertical row)?
makie replied to Oxbow16's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
I've got a carters one, roughneck ones are also decent. For slate hooks https://www.burtonroofing.co.uk/black-coated-80mm-spiked-slate-hook-316g.html You can get them in different sizes too. -

Need a good quality ripper if that's the case. My one is fine at taking out brand new coppers. -
Does this quote look OK for a 3 bed mid terrace roof please?

I always remember a tax man speaking to my old man years ago and he suggest to tradesman not to mention VAT on quotes but just to include it. Says it puts most people off. -
Advice Needed - Bonnet Hip Tiles

You're not going to get them all uniform these days as I stated above mate, Redland use the excuse that they are handmade as a way out. -
Advice Needed - Bonnet Hip Tiles
makie replied to ProblematicPanda15's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
The cement work looks extremely poor but honestly bonnets are awful right now. I done a job recently that had 500+ bonnets and every single one of them was different. We just had to sort through the batches to try and get it the closest we could. Redlands cop out was they are handmade so they will never be uniform. -
So it's solar on brackets I'm assuming? Ask the manufacturer of the tiles if they will guarantee their product with these because most don't.

bassandclan already gave you the answer, it's got laps.

No, that would be done before they come in.

Is it normal for roof membrane to leak like a sieve?
makie replied to Tom's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
It should be built up with steps to allow it to shed properly and make sure water doesn't creep back. Like this The felt should be ran down the valley and then the felt on the pitches should be lapped on top or into the valley. They have also used non-copper nails in it, plus lead valleys should never be nailed on the flat or further down than the top 3rd of it to allow for expansion. -
Options for 'too shallow' for tile choice

Can be done but voids any warranty. -

makie replied to Tom's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
Breathable felt can leak with heavy rain over a prolonged period. The valley is most likely letting water in, doesn't look like it's been felted properly. Is it lead? if it is it's been installed incorrectly. Also the lead gulley, is it one piece? please tell me it has some elevated areas or expansion joints welded in?
