  1. Overall it went swimmingly well, couple of minor issues but soon resolved and need to return to sort out a handle issue but John Knight Glass were, IMO really great and for final sign off we wait for contact over next couple weeks when someone else comes to site to check everything with us so enough time to raise any snagging issues hopefully. Despite some panic on the canal bridge when the trailer was about 8 inches off the floor, everyone held their breath when the glass got over successfully. The other option being discussed was asking CRT who were dredging at the time to transport them to us. Although that didn't happen, I'd of been quite pleased to see that ? The windows we picked were the aluclad UPVV studio KF320 windows and KS430 sliding door and we are more than happy with them. A couple from work in progress. It was nice as the sun was setting getting some pictures of the house today, finally with the windows.
  2. Can I ask what was suggested, do you have a link? Are you using these inside too?
  3. Yep, everyone we have spoken to raves about them and we have a Clearview shop a couple of miles away and they are so helpful. Our floor will be LVT gluedown tiles. Yep, builder sorted this and checked. This is what we are struggling to decide what to put inside and also on the hearth too. Is there a particular tile we should be looking at for inside? Do you have to have a particular kind of tile to meet building regs? I'll check them out so probably look at two pieces then? Still think granite will be way out of our budget.
  4. We are reusing the perfectly fine stove that came with the house, although the canopy makes it quite old fashioned our budget didn't stretch to a new stove. It's this Clearviee one (we are replacing the brass fittings with chrome ones): We have been quoted around £550 for a T shaped piece of granite so that's pretty much out. We do need to come up with a budget friendly solution of what to put on the hearth and around the walls inside. Any suggestions please? I haven't yet located building regs so should we be looking at a particular material to use and what is allowed/not allowed.
  5. That would be helpful to see thanks @vfrdave
  6. It's been stressful, probably because I'm a worrier and just wanted everything right. Despite the builder saying he was sorting it and getting a professional, until we saw the van this morning and saw how meticulous they worked, it was only then I felt a massive relief. What I can't get my head around is why the builder didn't get the professionals to start with. The professionals today got here very early on and were gone by 3pm. The initial bodged job must have take well over a week because the builders lads took ages and then the umpteen coats they kept putting on to try and rectify it. Our builder must have paid out a fair bit in wages alone. I'm sure he has learned a valuable lesson!
  7. Here's a couple of better pictures before we leave the site for the day. It's touch dry too (with some flies stuck on it) and thank god it hasn't rained.
  8. Yes I think you are right re the flashing. Local lads and definitely specialists. I'm so glad we insisted on it being taken off. Thank you to everyone who gave me advice, it gave me the confidence to challenge it and insist on it being redone.
  9. I think so, also the firrings are either side of the rooflight for the drop. Bl@@dy acorns are dropping on it now and I'm literally monitoring it like a hawk picking them off as they fall.
  10. So.... Old roof off this week, firings sorted so our roof has a fall on it and the professionals arrived today for the GRPing, thank god it's dry. On site at the moment and just had a sneak peak. We are so pleased with this compared to previous. This is the fall, not sure how the builders are going to deal with the exposed wood yet. Credit to the guys who were on site before 8am.
  11. It's an Internorm front door but we actually got it from eBay from an Internorm distributor (not the one we used for our windows). We had a Solidor one in out last house and it was still in when we sold it 10 years later. The one for our house now was also ex showroom, customer failed order and was £180 so if it lasts for a few years I'll be happy. Quality seems better than Solidor but I'm not sure exactly what make it is (not fitted yet).
  12. I don't know, I think it's how they sit on. My parents something similar on their UPVC ones and they keep falling off.
  13. Thanks @MikeGrahamT21 I have issues with the end caps!
  14. That would be really appreciated @MikeGrahamT21 thanks.
  15. I've never heard of Duraboard, this looks good. So you don't have to paint it?
  16. Yep, that's what we are looking at getting. May be able to find one a bit cheaper with the humidity module too.
  17. @ProDave what window boards warped? Were these MDF? I hardly see PVC mentioned here. Is there a reason? My parents have them and they have scratched badly. I know a friend who had granite to match her worktop (black). I suspect these may be quite expensive (10 required) and I'm not sure how they would look given we won't have granite in other rooms. It would also need to be quite neutral against the white.
  18. Yep that's the one I'm looking at and we had previously (I think it was the Icon 30 though).
  19. I know this can be an issue. One plus of this fan we found in our last house was that it opens and closes up after use. It was a replacement for a previous fan and we really noticed a difference.
  20. We have an ex display kitchen purchased and it has a hob built in and to be honest I wasn't a fan of these and don't want to purchase an alternative hob or start cutting out worktops/units to make it work. We wanted to make it less noticeable. We looked at this one but it's only in black not white and a bit bigger than what we would like. I'm just tempted to go with the fan than pay a few hundreds of pounds more for something we will never use.
  21. Our one other option is to just go for a fan on a different wall like this which meets building regs. It would certainly save us a bit of money https://www.tradingdepot.co.uk/airflow-icon-60-centrifugal-extractor-fan-suitable-for-bathrooms-utility-rooms We have had this before and it's quite good as it open and closes automatically with the PIR/humidity module. I'm sure I saw another user on here had one in their kitchen but I can't remember who it was.
  22. I know, may be able to get it a bit cheaper but it's the smallest, most discrete one I can find.
  23. Our builder has asked us to consider which window boards we want inside. We have no idea, as long as they are white as our uPVC aluclad windows from Internorm are white inside. He mentioned MDF which has conjured up all sorts of images of Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen creating all sorts of monstrosities on Changing Rooms! Any suggestions?
  24. So we have been doing some searching into finding the smallest and most inconspicuous looking extractor. In the end we wondered if something like this would be suitable to go into the ceiling. It wouldn't be exactly over the hob, probably only over a quarter of it because the hob is part way between the pitched ceiling and flat ceiling but this extractor is very slim and only 300*350 and just in case we do decide we need to cook greasy food we have an extractor (although our hob is bigger I see no reason to go for the larger measurements). I'm hoping this would be fairly inconspicuous. https://luxairhoods.com/ceiling-cooker-hoods-slimline/powerful-slimline-ceiling-cooker-hood-white
  25. Spoke to sparky and going to get faceplates sorted behind three TV points which, with the hubs should cover each area of the house. If only we could get a decent mobile signal too!
