But in which / what axis!

Rich beyond the dreams of avarice.

Right to light is not taken into account by planning IIRC. Just keep very good notes of everything as in the end it could end up at court where you neigbour can request compensation. If they have not allowed you to make appropriate measurement they will get less out of the judge one would hope.

Is the control algorithm not IP protected as you would need that to reliably control the phase changes along the flow pipe.
-
Very frustrating. We want to go Sunamp but I still worry about reliability. We will only have one so no redundancy - two seems like overkill and we would need to stack them and getting a block that heavy up on top of its sibbling is a problem.

Drilling joists and other supporting structure.
MikeSharp01 replied to andreas's topic in General Structural Issues
And avoid getting too close to the ends of the beam, as in stay several depths from the end EG 400mm plus if they are wooden joists the supplier will have a drilling chart you can use. -
Neither did they allow it for this build they discussed this at the end as you mention, bit of a dig by Kevin about the problem with the DNOs - so although they had the energy for export it could not be. The house does generate the 4 times but the DNO cannot take it away - ridiculous. I guess you need to find a way to keep stacking up 3 phase connections and all the standing charges that demands to make this work.

You perhaps need to work this out as the current in two resistors in parallel to see the full effects of doing this you don't want one cable carrying more than its capacity when the other has not reached its maximum.

Sounds like it will be fun.. having done a few already we guess you enjoy it. Keep us posted.

Missing insulation in vaulted ceiling

PS If the developer fixes your issue we can always make some edits and big them up for stepping up to the plate! -
Missing insulation in vaulted ceiling
MikeSharp01 replied to d87francis's topic in Lofts, Dormers & Loft Conversions
Perhaps we should name them here in an appropriately constructed sentence so the crawlers / bots can pick it up and get their name out there. This sampling approach is bonkers when it comes to being sure everything is done correctly everywhere by the larger developers. It seems that trust continues to be a thing even when trust has been shown to no longer be a two way street and redress is just a gapping hole in the system. -
Advice on changing my thermostat
MikeSharp01 replied to spagettilegs's topic in Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHP)
Looks like any stat, with timer functions etc, will do. I found the manual for your current one here: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/2425364/Theben-Ramses-797-B.html and it is basically a two wire connection. Here is the relevant page from the manual! Hope this helps... -
Logging OVO Actuals Data and Octopus Agile Half-hourly Prices
MikeSharp01 replied to TerryE's topic in Boffin's Corner
Very interesting Terry - I was thinking of switching over to Octopus agile. here at millstone manor, now our move from bulb is finally complete and then load shifting but I think that while we still have a cooked supper it might be worth waiting until we fully retire and have a cooked lunch instead! -
+1 to this idea provided the arrival rate from whereever is low. I had a similar issue in my underground workshop, tanked on the outside, and just running a 7w fan for the cheap rate period every night keeps it bone dry. I thought could be tiny amounts of condensation given the workshop walls are at a constant temperature it only takes a slug of air and the dew point to create damp. If, in your case, the lining cannot absorb it its going to creep down and have a party in the lowest corner.

As Alan says, and don't forget that as hand waving generates heat you should adjust for that in your calculations NOT

Anybody looking for the JSHarris spreadsheet can find it HERE: https://forum.buildhub.org.uk/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=18333

You can probably do it yourself with the JS Harris spreadsheet.

Vaulted Ceiling Extract Position
MikeSharp01 replied to Jambutty's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
A small duct won't compromise your insulation much and allow you to get to the highest point. You have a lot of volume in the room above your proposed valve location so I would go higher. Where we have compromised the insulation we have upped the spec of the insulation in that area. So adding some PU, the main is blown cellulose, in that area to get back to similar spec. -
How an MBC WarmSlab Has Actually Performed based on 6 Years Data
MikeSharp01 commented on TerryE's blog entry in The House at the Bottom of the Garden
Seems like a plan - I decided the kids were the bigger problem so I moved the dial on its spindle so it reads 5deg above the real value - not sure how much that has saved us over the years.
