Thanks, I'll chase them up

Can anyone recommend a contractor that covers the south west who will offer a removal and re-blow service? We are looking to have the whole house insulation changed out for blown bead.

dMVHR or trickle vents
HughF replied to HughF's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
Update... had to get the windows and doors ordered, because, 2 week lead time. Banged a trickle vent in each of the opening panes of the bedroom windows (3 windows in total, each with a single opener, our bedroom has 2 windows), left the vents out of the extension windows/doors and will fit a dMVHR into the gable end wall. -
Why not just do it on a building notice and make it up as you go along? No need for drawings if your builder is vaguely competent. We're doing 16m2 rear extension, mono pitch, on a notice at the moment.

OK, important that we get this correct then...

Interesting, thanks for the info…

A friend is looking at an ex-demo 5kW Therma-V and Albion cylinder that's a stonking good deal... However, it doesn't come with the wall controller. Does anyone know the part number and availability of this required item? Google hasn't been particularly helpful.

dMVHR or trickle vents
HughF replied to HughF's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
We're replacing the windows in the upstairs at the back of the house too, mainly to make them 3" smaller and remove the tiled cills, so we can gain 6" of uplift on the extension wall plate. MVHR in the upstairs only, with something in the loft? There are 2 double bedrooms, a single, and a bathroom. Or should I stick with trickle vents in the bedrooms.... -
dMVHR or trickle vents
HughF replied to HughF's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
Paying extra for triple glazing instead of settling for 2g, that’s what I was on about… The trickle vents aren’t much of an addition to the cost of the window from what I can see. The uplift in U value between double and triple seems worthwhile for the small uplift in costs. -
Change out of 5k for my 9kW unit, a UVC, and a new house of radiators… I don’t count my labour involved in installing it though.

dMVHR or trickle vents

Arghhhh, decisions decisions… my builder said ‘why go to all the trouble of paying extra for 3G then put trickle vents in them, I’d fit a dMVHR into the gable end wall’…. Really not sure what to do now. -
Apparently the eps beads are very free flowing, so I’d assume that the application technician would be able to inject all around the foam boards?

They usually carry a bit more than the readymix trucks down here, 12m3 iirc

We always use volumetric for everything in Dorset, footings, the lot.... Never see a readymix truck around the place. Volumetric is just as fast if you've got enough lads on hand to barrow

We'll fill the cavity up as the recent building work has highlighted some areas where the loose fill hasn't gone, then look at some IWI. Not keen on EWI on a terraced house.

That’s bang out of order, and goes to show how faulty the system is. They shouldn’t have a say in the matter, just because they were there first.

dMVHR or trickle vents
HughF replied to HughF's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
They do, yes. I’ll read up on the regs and get the minimum. I’m replacing the upstairs bedroom windows at the same time, also facing the worst of the south westerly exposure. I’ll get vents fitted to those too. -
Yeah, fair points…. Down here we’re spoilt for readymix concrete and pump hire. Not so much for volumetric in Somerset, annoyingly. Down in Bournemouth we have three different volumetric companies to choose from.

Is there any merit in having our old cavity wall insulation sucked out (chopped/blown fibreglass, it would seem) from our 2” cavity, and having it replaced with blown beads? Forever home, happy to spend the money on it if it will improve things going forwards.
-
It’s particularly unfortunate that they’re not older, and are being unreasonable. You have my sympathies.
-
Are they old? Old people have a habit of dying eventually, in my experience….
-
If concrete has taught me anything, it’s that you hire the pump from the company supplying the readymix as a single price job… If the pump goes bad, it’s all on their heads…

This was ours, a little over 10days ago. 125mm concrete, on 240mm pir. puffed it up to 5 bar for the pour. I would have preferred to use pex-Al-pex, but I didn’t have quite enough in stock and I was battling against time on this one, my wife and I threw it down after work one evening. That’s continal pe-rt, in 16mm. My builders did theirs in slab too, I think the accepted wisdom is changing nowadays.

dMVHR or trickle vents
HughF replied to HughF's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
OK, revisiting this thread as we’re up to lintel height and it’s time to measure up and order the windows… Humidity controlled trickle vents still seem the sensible option to you? The plan is to not seal up the fireplaces, but to put a couple of small (4kW max) multi-fuel stoves in them. If I go with trickle vents, is it a ‘fit them to every window/door’ scenario, or should I calculate the required size and spec accordingly? We’re not going all-out nuts on the air tightness, but our brickies are pretty good and the pointing seems tight. I’ll probably tape the windows back to the reveals before d&d’ing the linings on. -
Is there a no-frills R290 heat pump?
HughF replied to sharpener's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
Very wise words there....
