We've decided to press ahead with the installation of a new CH system and UVC, slightly ahead of schedule, but it needs to be done. I've completed the rad sizing and now need to decide on whether to go for Stelrad, or whether to go for cheapies from Screwfix/Toolstation/Other... Perhaps @Nickfromwales could chime in with his valued experience here? We need a few 900h type 22 (which seem hard to find, victorian plumbing seem to have stock), and the rest are all standard 600h type 22.

We’re on stable ground, I was going to go with 100mm but my builder suggested 125mm would be better. We just used regular concrete as that’s what we’ve always done for slabs. Perhaps if it was bigger we would have put some control joints in it along with a bit of mesh.

Brevis Higroster are on order (or will be this week, when I get that pro-forma) https://brevis-ventilation.com/produkty/ventair-higroster-en/ These look like a very nice vent, and are available in the UK from Brookvent

Background; outback mx60 mppt feeding into a LiFePO4 pack, 2.4kW peak. 3kW outback inverter, no grid at this property. I’m regularly in float my midday in the summer and I want to divert into my newly installed immersion heater (my tank never had one before yesterday). I need a diversion controller that will accept an ‘enable’ input (my mx60 aux relay can be set to activate when in float’) that will then monitor the shunt I have in the -ve bus and then convert this into a phase angle to fire the immersion off the 230v side. I don’t want to just connect the 3kW directly across the 230v side when in float as this will pull the battery voltage down and I’ll come home from work with probably 1/3rd of my capacity gone into the hot water. I want to track the excess solar production so I stay at my target %SOC. I don’t want to run the immersion on battery power directly, as the batteries are 100m away from the house in an outbuilding. Does anyone make what I’m looking for? If not then I’ll ditch the immersion idea and just use the float relay to turn on a modified swimming pool heat pump that I’ve bodged onto my vented cylinder. That will probably sit around 400w which the panels will just track and cover the demand for.

Honestly, I don’t know… but from all the bumpf I’ve read, I’m inclined to think that they’re a more premium product than the other stuff out there. Perhaps that’s just the power of their marketing team winning me over 🤣

dMVHR suppliers list (not complete)
HughF replied to HughF's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
To add to the list: Vent-Axia LoCarbin tempra - has simultaneous supply and extract yet fits into a 100mm hole. -
150 or 200 cavity. Full fill… forget using pir in the cavity.
-
Not necessarily…. We’re at 150 cavity with IG single piece steel lintels. Negates the need for a top cavity closer and the bco was happier with this than separate concs on inner/outer. did delay the build by a week and cost me £850 in lintels though

30kW PV, All electric heating, is this mad?
HughF replied to DevonBarn's topic in Photovoltaics (PV)
I was suggesting it for both heating and cooling. They really are a wonderful technology. They should beat a2w on a COP perspective, and it is easier to manage the condensate on them as the line sets are pre-insulated. -
For bathroom use, partel Lunos eGO….

Backyard doors - all glass double or triple glazed?
HughF replied to JohnBishop's topic in Doors & Door Frames
Probably, but that’s my choice and I’m sticking with it 🤣 -
Backyard doors - all glass double or triple glazed?
HughF replied to JohnBishop's topic in Doors & Door Frames
Shocking experience….. bunch of cowboys who will measure an inch smaller all round so they don’t have to spend any time hacking off render, then they cover it all up with shitty trims… -
Backyard doors - all glass double or triple glazed?

Let a local uPVC firm fit windows for you? Hmmmmm…… not in my house 🤣 -
Backyard doors - all glass double or triple glazed?
HughF replied to JohnBishop's topic in Doors & Door Frames
Just fitted a fully glazed triple glazed uPVC from my preferred supplier, weight of the glass wasn't an issue in their standard profile. Online supply only UPVC double/triple window/door prices/quotes (modernupvcwindows.co.uk) -
I'm looking for a 2" wide air tightness tape to seal the corners joints of my cavity closers, and seal the front edge of the closer to the internal blockwork. From the numerous types available on greenbuildingstore, which one should I go for? It will need to live happily underneath d&d plasterboard reveals...

5kW is basically the smallest you can get, so yes, I'd buy one of those. LG Therma V, Samsung Gen6, Mitsubishi Ecodan, Midea (6kW) Buy whichever one you can get for the lowest price, they'll all do the same job. Beware that Samsung units are cheap because the controller/indoor unit is an extra cost, and they need an external pump.

The thing I like about the freedom toolkit is the speed at which you can define u value for floor/wall/windows. It just seems easier…. And I’ve tried all three 🤣

Why is this Samsung AE120RXYDEG/EU making this noise?
HughF replied to Guest 33's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
All I hear is the rain lashing against a window/flat roof, and the hun of the heat pump doing it’s thing… I take it by your username that you find the noise of your neighbours heat pump to be annoying 🤣 -
The freedom toolkit does room by room, but it's just a fancy excel workbook, no need to draw the rooms/floorplan.
-
I prefer the freedom toolkit to be honest. I don’t like the way heatpunk forces you to do the drawings. I’ve cross checked my freedom work in heat engineer (£10 for a single property survey) and that seems quite ok.
