  1. they wanted to charge me a full days pump in case they couldn't get the concrete to site in time!!!!
  2. I'm going with separate concrete supplier and pump company as the all in one place couldn't guarantee getting all the concrete to me in 5 hours. where;s paragraph 13.1.2? can't find it on that link? So the concrete will have VAT which I will claim back and the pump should be zero rated as it has an operator????
  3. Annoyingly the safest way of me getting the concrete on the day is to get separate companies for the concrete and the pump. The pump company can't guarantee they will get 75m3 of concrete to me in 4 hours, so want to charge for a full days pump.
  4. I'll ask the pump people if they know it's zero rated. Would it be zero if they just did the pump and not supply the concrete though? Do you have the VAT helpline number for self-builds?
  5. Got no problem doing that, it was only from another post that someone suggested getting the pump company to supply the concrete in order to help cashflow and the VAT. So can I claim the VAT on the pump too?
  6. I think I'll try and get in the habit of insisting my address is on invoices, may make things easier....................
  7. I was under the impression that if a concrete pump company supplied the concrete, it should be zero rated? I managed to get a company to match the price I got for concrete but the guy reckons they have to charge VAT, he even asked his directors. How does the VAT aspect work for a supplier when dealing with self builders? Cheers Vijay
  8. Just wondered what information we have to have on invoices in order to claim the VAT back? Will name suffice or do we have to have an address? I bought some ply today and was so annoyed with the BM (they put the price up when I got there), that I forget to check the invoice which just has my surname What happens with invoices for stuff ordered online, can we claim back the shipping/carriage VAT? Cheers Vijay
  9. A friend who did basements always said he doubles up, membrane and paint
  10. What about top hung, using pistons (like on a car boot) for support?
  11. I opened one but the prices are a joke, they definitely have no interest in my business
  12. Mine was £530 for private inspectors and have been very helpful so far
  13. Just to update this post, the BCO is happy with the plan and happy for IC1 to go to either manhole 1 or 2
  14. I was really impressed when I originally asked Alan how it's done - as you said, so simple but effective IIRC Alan said you could then add Insulation between the joists (on top of the timber panel) if you wanted to
  15. I personally think the fitter should be ashamed of themselves leaving a job with that much silicone over it. Sorry but they have no pride in their work
  16. Here you go Rich, section 3 http://www.polarwall.co.uk/pages/thankyou.html
  17. Costco definitely still do the matting in store, saw it the other week. Just noticed, it's discounted at the moment - http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/263ae8ed?utm_source=Promo&utm_medium=Email&utm_term=Coupons&utm_campaign=emailFY17MVM11#/263ae8ed/2
  18. Yeah that's my exact logic. Good idea about packing where I need to, I think with the suggestions on here, any concrete that's out won't really be a huge issue but I will obviously aim to get the concrete as good as I can to save work.
  19. Hi Jamie, I think I might be going overboard and worrying about things most builders wouldn't - but I've never built anything with ICF so am just trying to look at any potential problems as early as I can Polarwall does look very flexible but hopefully I won't create extra work if I can get the concrete spot on 250mm core - why??????????????????????????? lol I'll be doing my garage in ICF too but 155mm core the same as the house.
  20. Hello bud, How did you find getting levels of concrete vs first layer of Polarwall? I just don't want to spend ages cutting down the first row of panels...............................
  21. The rebar is going in to the semi wet concrete as it's only shorter lengths of straight bar. Polarwall uses a rail system, so there is a U rail that is fixed to the concrete and then the polystyrene panel is inserted into the U
  22. Yes I have and will do that. I have 80 odd cube of concrete going in so it would have been useful for an easy visual marker too
  23. Good point, I think it's more the manual has to say what it should be but in reality, a builder would probably never get it to that tolerance and then do what you said with cutting things to fit
  24. Would the hi-viz strip effect the actual measurement at all?
