  1. Cheers Mike. Concrete seems to go up by £20 odd quid if pump companies supply it so wouldn't be worth it
  2. I'm doing the work myself so can't get anyone to zero rate it
  3. Just wanted to check, if any VAT can be claimed back on the groundworks - muckaway, concrete, pumps, rebar, clayboard? Cheers Vijay
  4. Had a few quotes for geotextile membrane to go under type 1 mot and wondered what the difference in them is as they price has varied. I understand I need non woven as it's non permeable, but the price has varied from £1 m2 to £110 for a 100 x 4.5m roll which is 27p m2
  5. conveyance being the paperwork that the solicitors dealt with? From first investigations, it seems all 3 fences are wrong and none in my favour
  6. Even more reason to at least pay a small deposit by credit card!!!
  7. Looking at my LR paperwork that I received back when I purchased my plot, it clearly shows the boundary edged in red on a copy of the site plan (the same as the one I was given when I purchased the plot). Between me seeing the plot bare and haven been given site plans, they then put up fences - but these are not in the right place. So what would be right, the site plans that I was given and also outlined in red by the LR, or the fences?
  8. Having a discussion with a friend today and he was saying fences are not the property boundaries. When you purchase a piece of land and are given site plans showing the plots (and the land is still un-fenced), are your boundaries the site plans that were given to you and registered with the LR, or do the fences make up the boundaries?
  9. He reckons they came out to register the property and verify the fences were in the correct place which I just don't believe................
  10. So it seems more likely to be OS than LR
  11. Was he from the Land Registry? Did you call them out?
  12. Just looked at the OS map online and it's years old. My neighbour has said LR went round last year to check all the boundary fences and confirmed they were all correct, but I spoke to them today and they said they don't do that..............
  13. Has anyone heard of the Land Registry people coming out to check fences are in the right places of the boundaries because a house is complete? I thought they only come and check if their is a dispute that's been sorted? Vijay
  14. Hi Terry, that would be fantastic. I can't do this one coming but maybe the following if you're free?
  15. I'm talking a slight change, probably not even noticeable unless someone came to specifically measure it
  16. Cheers Terry. I'm thinking permeable paving isn't the way to go anyway from reading various links others have posted. I'm waiting to hear what drainage the access drive will have (if any) but I think a drain at the front of the drive into either a soakaway or a harvesting tank makes more sense. So I'm still leaning towards type 1 and then top up at a future date
  17. Part of the downstairs is single storey and has an outside angle of 119 degrees. If that needed to be adjusted, would it have any specific issues? The walls are ICF, the floor is B&B and the roof is to be cut on site. I wondered if it would have an effect on the roof tiles or anything further down the line? I know it would have to be mirrored on the opposite side. Cheers Vijay
  18. I couldn't find anything on the council website so I've emailed them to see if they have any policies on driveways. One of my planning conditions says "Prior to first occupation of the development hereby permitted a positive means of drainage shall be installed to ensure that surface water from vehicular access or private land does not discharge on the highway". The end of my drive is about 160m away from the highway down a private access road (for 4 properties), so I don't see how that condition can apply to me. Reading on here http://www.pavingexpert.com/drain14.htm gives a few ways of dealing with drainage at the end of a drive
  19. It's just work I hadn't planned on right now - but I own the digger so I guess it makes no difference in the long run I'm in two minds whether to put a cheaper hardcore down as in my post above. I'm wondering if putting down the 150mm sub base layer and then topping up and re-compacting as I need to in the future might be a better idea? Yep, already strip a hell of a lot of top soil into a big (huge) pile ready to landscape in the future. Not sure what you mean by recycled fill?
  20. Yeah that's what I read on the pavingexpert site and why I asked about permeable
  21. It's more work but that makes complete sense
  22. I really can't go round the village asking for teenagers!!! lol
  23. problem is I can't get the hard standing/temp drive down until the spoil is removed and I would need the aggregate lorries to get onto my plot, where there is earth/clay - that's the bit I need to cover temporarily with something I've already had the neighbours having a dig that they don't want any muck being left on the access road, so I don't want to give them any opportunity to moan
  24. Is it just personal choice on what to use or would a clay sub layer determine things?
  25. Reading more, going for 150mm type 1 sub base seems to be the best for a block paved drive. Anyone have any idea how well 150mm of type 1 would stand up to concrete lorries?
