  1. Trying to figure out how I should best route the drainage pipes for our new ensuite. The layout, and ideal pipe route would be; The problem is I have sold joists running left to right across the room, like this; Which, as it happens, is great for supporting the bath, but not so helpful for pipework... For additional context, here's what the wider site plan looks like (Yeah, there's a missing IC at that outside junction...) I guess I could core the 32/40mm pipes through the final joist and rear wall, joining them to the SVP externally, but it doesn't help with the W/C soil pipe. I could route the soil pipe right, under the shower and out over the flat roof, but would then have to route to the ground somehow, and directly below it is our backdoor, restricting where the vertical pipe could drop down. I don't have a massive amount of head height in either the ensuite or room below to create some fake floor/ceiling to hide the pipework in, so short of ripping out the joists and replacing with posi's, I'm struggling to come up with a sensible idea. Any suggestions?
  2. From wall B to D, and they'll be posi-joists. Trying to avoid making too many penetrations in the external walls, the only one we currently have planned is a soil pipe.
  3. If you have the option, go with a slab. I have both, with a beam + block floor over an old cellar and would prefer a slab all day long. It’s also cheaper if you’re DIYing it.
  4. Worktop not much, it was mainly to get the storage in we need; dish washer, pots/pans drawer, cutlery/crockery etc. Ventilation - the hob I've picked is self-venting, they're quite expensive though, so I might look into @crispy_wafer's idea of a dropped ceiling over the island and have a recirc extractor in that.
  5. The Euro sizings will be where I went wrong - thanks!
  6. Thought I'd have a stab at flipping the island around so that; - Cook can see out of folding doors across the garden - People won't be brushing past anyone sitting on stools at the island (unless they want to get into the drawers behind which will be for cutlery pots/pans etc) It keeps the triangle nice and tight and I think it works pretty well. Thoughts?
  7. Already on it
  8. That's a good shout, I did play around with removing that 400 unit and having 1x 150mm towel rail, 1x 150mm pull out (for dish sponges etc) and 1x 150mm wine rack across that wall too. Wouldn't be able to do that and include the secondary DW though.
  9. Anyone know what size this should be? I'll take it into my local plumbers merchants at the weekend and see if they can help. Not sure they're much cop if you're not asking about a 22mm compression bit though...
  10. Functionally, I think the island edges it; everything's in close proximity to the cook, which is great. In terms if usability I think it has to be the peninsula; it's certainly not terrible, but does move the hob further away from everything else (and reduces the larder size)
  11. Pretty much the same layout barring island vs peninsula. Biggest difference is the larger unit with an island is 1000 whereas it's only 800 with a peninsula...
  12. Probably our "final" design to include an island. So far I think this is preferred, mainly because; 1) Anyone at the hob can be involved in conversations 2) Everything's easily accessible when cooking (i.e. fridge/microwave/larder just behind the hob) I'll take a stab at trying to get those requirements into a peninsula design too.
  13. Funnily, my parents recently did the same with their hob (45 angle) and say they hate it. Takes up too much room etc. To be fair, I can see their point, their kitchen is a reasonable size; probably 4x3 and that unit just looks overbearing in it - can certainly see it looking better in a larger space.
  14. Also might need to swap the hinges on the internal door - not sure where I could put the light switches otherwise.
  15. Probably my OCD, was trying to find somewhere for some drawers for cutlery etc without a mismatch of highline and drawer line units on the same wall. Latest revision; Stools look a bit snug.
  16. Still a bit rough around the edges, but something like this
  17. Are you thinking something like this? I'm wondering whether an island is just a no go and we should be looking at a peninsular instead.
  18. SWMBO has a thing about 2x Dish Washers, she's read it somewhere. I'm not sure we'll actually go with that...
  19. It's roughly 95cm down the sides of the island and 1.2m from the end of the island to the sink in the latest design.
  20. The odd corner unit is a corner larder unit, and it's pretty large. They do have a standard one too;
  21. Yeah. Kitchen side is original, "day room" side is an extension done about 50 years ago,
  22. Had another shuffle around. That back wall just doesn't sit right. The window's not in yet, but has been ordered. It opens out across our drive onto a Pub beer garden so the Architect designed it low like this for privacy. (We will eventually put an 8ft fence up between us and them, at which point it'll look out at that)
  23. Could becoming a bit "numb" but none really seem to sit right with me. Leaving the corner units in? Or without anything in the corners? Or standard units up to the wall?
  24. Don't you think it looks a bit... wrong?
  25. Made a bit more room around the sink/dishwasher by trimming 200mm off the island. Also removed the tall unit on the left of the sink to be used as an area for kettle/toaster, although I do like Kelvin's idea of a Quooker tap and grill instead of clutter on show...
