  3. I think I get an hour thrown in before midnight. I am usually asleep by then. It was that hour I initially locked out with secondary timers as it seemed pointless. I only use 4 hours of the E7 window at most and I think I can get away with using just 3 of them.
  4. The E7 timings are programmed into my meter. The only reason I bothered to get the meter changed was because EDF said the old radio single one was going to be turned off in a few weeks time (was back in May).
  5. It will. The sad thing is it an easy, but messy, fix. I suspect that they did not put enough resin into the first layer of mat. I hope they put a second one on, but may have not. Water will get in, will be absorbed by the unsaturated mat, freezing will happen, then it is just a matter of time before it fails.

  7. As strange as it seems, they could impact performance more than you think. The total module current is reduced to the current of the lowest performing cell. This is why bypass diodes are fitted. The voltage only drops slightly when a single cell is bypassed, but the current is the same. There are a few YouTube videos about it
  8. Forget them, what you need is a gate turn-off thyristor. It even has gate in the name.

  12. Why do you think that. They work just like any other wet heating system. The first thing you should do is calculate your heat losses. This means finding out about your house construction i.e. walls, floor, doors and windows, roof, then assume you have ventilation losses of between 3 and 6 air changes an hour. Estimate your hit water usage as well Knowing all that will lead you into the size of system you are likely to need. Once you have that information, then it is worth talking to installers. And your free £7500 grant isn't really free. It is a subsidy to installers. So you are likely to still be paying something.

  14. The principle is quite simple. To get a fixed amount of air though a restriction, in a fixed time, you have to speed the air up. This reduces the pressure at the restriction. What you can do is add extra air at that point. That air gets sucked in and then dragged out. So more air movement for the same size fan/pump. It is what Dyson does quiet well, but he relies on the general public not realising that it was all formulised in 1738, by Daniel Bernoulli.

  21. Neoprene, as used in wetsuits, has a conductivity of 0.055 W/m.K. You can buy 10mm by 600mm by 300mm for 22 quis on eBay. Can't you wrap pipes in that. You can get it thinner if the pipe diameter is small.

This is because they are derived units. A volt is kg⋅m2⋅s−3⋅A−1 and force is kg⋅m⋅s−2
