  1. I'm off grid. I have a couple of panels on 12v leisure batteries. I've been given a new 40v panel so thought I'll need to reduce voltage. But do I? What happens if I put 40v into 12v battery? Cheers
  2. Good point! I should have explained. Because we are using the loft space as a room so the room needs a ceiling, not just bare insulation material. What do you think? thanks
  3. 3.6mm ply is half the price of 9mm OSB but will the ply warp too much? What might be the pros and cons? Never done it before, never likely to do it again! Cheers hive mind
  4. Thank you Iceverge. Thermafleece is recycled plastic, still trying to calculate cost benefit. I had the nasty stuff leftover, it was as easy to fit as thermafleece and have yet to find anything cheaper. Its whether the R values are comparable. Maybe you know another cost effective product which has good insulation? I would be grateful to know. Thanks
  5. Hello folks I have used an online calculator but thought I would check with a hive mind. I think the thermafleece is slightly better than the quinn therm. What do people think? Or has anyone got any other ideas? It is for a roof. The plan i to then cover it all with wood fibre too. Thanks :)
  6. thanks Peter. Just seen this. That would have been a good idea worth thinking of but I was under pressure. In the end I have gone for celatex. Thanks again for your time and advise. I really like having this community, just need to make sure I use it earlier in future!
  7. There is no roof atm so that is a concern re natural products getting wet. Also now time is against us too so loose material v boards becomes trickier and as I said cost. At this stage i just need to get it in. I am trying to be as green as I can but i mindful of other real pressures
  8. 60mm void joists 47 x 197 C24 floor joists at 400c/c, nogged at mid span
  9. Thanks @PeterStarck and @joe90 do you have any product suggestions? Polystyrene or otherwise? Many thanks
  10. 13.5 x 5 m chipboard floor on void with gabion baskets. What floor insulation? I have read a few of the previous messages on this topic but they are not helping much. I thought just go for cheapest as the budget has all but gone but polystyrene is meant to be worthless. Any product ideas welcome please?
  11. Thanks @Pord67thats really helpful. I was quoted for someone to come and wrap the whole thing which was astronomical. Didn't think of doing it myself. I'll have to see if I can some scaff sheeting locally. My next job is to source underfloor insulation. Do you use any? Sorry it's off topic. Not sure if I'm meant to start another thread!
  12. Thanks so much for all the sharing. Build has started on mine so this level of detail is incredibly useful. Hope the weather stays dry while the rendering happens. Where did you source all the plastic to cover it till the rendering starts? Mine is a barn and will be a hybrid method of partly load bearing, sitting on gabion baskets. Off grid but trying to look to the future with every feature so copied all the words on how you have managed getting leccy in. I'll be 12V, batteries and jennie for the forseeable though.
