  2. I thought the important thing was to have a grinder like he had that supplies water as well. i the early days of our build I wanted to make my own worktops. I found one like it here

  4. In new build the EPC cannot be produced until the house is 'physically complete' - this includes commisioning of services, air pressure test (if done), confirmation of the 'as built' specfication, use of ACDs etc. So the EPC will ALWAYS be dated after all of the above! I normally receive a copy of the MCS cert for the PV (if available) and provided I have the above will produce the EPC. This has never been a problem in the past in then applying for FIT Suggest you mention this to your supply co.

  5. Ah, sorry. Mine was pretty straight forward and our council seem a lot more switched on than most (all) I've come across so it was all easy peasy. However, I know from talking to my architect that generally anything on the rear of the property or where it has no impact to the frontage or neighbours is no problem. Removing windows wouldn't be an issue either. Looking over what you want to do I would just bullet point it all out and highlight what you are reducing and that it has the support of the neighbours. I can't see anything contentious in what you're looking to do

  6. Welcome. Your post reminded me of the lyrics to Eclipse. It could almost be the "Self Builders Poem" Eclipse (Waters) 2:04 All that you touch All that you see All that you taste All you feel. All that you love All that you hate All you distrust All you save. All that you give All that you deal All that you buy, beg, borrow or steal. All you create All you destroy All that you do All that you say. All that you eat And everyone you meet All that you slight And everyone you fight. All that is now All that is gone All that's to come and everything under the sun is in tune but the sun is eclipsed by the moon. "There is no dark side of the moon really. Matter of fact it's all dark."

  7. Our NI based build will be heated by a LPG combi boiler, feeding into an UVC, supplemented by the PV driven immersion heater. We are choosing LPG over oil for a few reasons: *Grid gas is due to pass our house in the next 2-5 years *Calor supply the tank and concrete base *They supply 1500 litres of LPG to new customers *The LPG boiler can be converted to natural gas cheaply *Gas boilers are quieter and odourless (ours will be in the house) *Gas boilers can modulate their output *You can leave Calor without penalty if you change fuel source (grid gas being acceptable) *Lower capital costs *Much lower likelihood of theft with gas My main reason for moving away from an ASHP was that it is most efficient in the summer when heating is needed less and PV will be producing most, and least efficient in the depths of winter when PV output will also be lower.

  8. I used to work for a PV installer. I really could not see the difference in modules, except for looks i.e. all black, no silver. Apart from damage, I have also not heard of a module failing. So discard the sales hype, go for the cheapest. This is also true from the different 'chemistries', there may well be a marginal improvement at certain light levels, but like a Porche on the M25, it is rare that you actually benefit from it. No matter the size, performance or price of a module, it will generate very little when it is a dark winters day.

  9. In that case I would go for the cheapest panels from a brand acceptable to you, but ask for a couple of lollipops before placing the order. Ferdinand
