  1. Yesterday
  2. Which makes us both wonder why we got out of bed eh?? šŸ˜‘
  3. Hi James. I have been buying systems, and having support for (design and) installation of them, via CVC Systems Ltd (now also Air-Haus) for many years. There isn't a single instance where these guys have let me, or a client of mine down, which is a bloody rare quality. I can put you in touch with other BH members who will testify to this, via PM. I keep using them because of the great feedback, after-sales service, and robust design and support service that I have been given to date. May sound like sales-patter, but it's just based on facts
  4. We've been looking at options as well. We also won't have ashp. Brink also do this https://www.brinkclimatesystems.nl/solutions/evap-pro Not suitable for us as we want some kind of active cooling, but also don't want aircon cassettes everywhere
  5. We are finally at the stage of ordering, and were going to get the kit from Ventilationland, glad I've just seen this.....what was the service like, any cooling options? (We won't have an ashp).
  6. Thanks Nick good to hear! I’ve gone round the houses on this. Currently wondering whether the double height south facing atrium glazing justifies solar control glazing (extra Ā£1200)!
  7. But Little Tim Hartford's mate got 3 hours of gardening for 300 quid, not 1 hours gardening for 300 quid. I better write to him before September.
  8. Wish I had one. Left home at 6 AM and forgot to open the upstairs windows. After 11 hours driving in 30+°C temperatures, and an hour in the old folks home, which was very warm, I get home and my bedroom is 32°C. I just want to sleep deeply.
  9. The water sounds rather expensive compared to your other utility charges? Is it Thames Water in Oxfordshire?
  10. Thanks Dave….We don’t actually have any quotes yet. I’m trying to get a feel for the connection costs in order to calculate what we can sensibly afford to offer for the plot. It looks like most of the connections should be through an existing boundary wall into a back alley behind a neighbouring terrace; so hopefully short runs in a very quiet spot šŸ¤žšŸ»šŸ¤žšŸ»?
  11. Yes Parge for airtightness has had it day We used to use tones of the stuff each week and befor that a coat of sand and cement for Barrats when they first started fit and dab Using board finish to dab the boards on with Back then the block work was atrocious Full of snots and gaps straight through the cavity Then BC cracked down and insisted joints where pointed and bar rubbed and everything sealed around joists With twelve months No more Parge We use 100-200 bags per year For what it says on the bag Sound Coat Mainly LA apartments The amount of pressure that would be needed to force air through a fence concrete block Would have little problem finding it’s way through 5 mil of plaster Just a thought Don’t use any kind of Parge on dry thermal blocks Ive just finished doing a bill of quantities for 80 houses for WD that will score zero on an air test With the same blue shit to spray on Gypliner Insulated slabs Ply Then insulated PB The site is in Oldham I’m pretty sure the people moving into them will appreciate our efforts
  12. Have looked at them, seems a good range of modulation, very good price. Is it worth bothering with MCS rubbish to save a couple of grand. ASHP for the heating, then a small direct cylinder for your space available? Optimise the UFH to make the most of the heat pump?
  13. Oh i am sure there will be. Got to get the thing up through the loft hatch first. But its 800 degrees in the loft today.
  14. Caught really interesting and easy to understand piece on the BBC's more or less programme today. It explains why our electricity prices are so high, how they are made up and how marginal pricing works. Catch the piece at 12 minutes in. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002fj8f
  15. Mixture I think. I've been happy with my independent one. Strict but very helpful
  16. I think a lot more people will start using AeroBarrier, and ditch the taping around windows and doors etc. One I’m working on atm is block walls, so I’ve recommended a bit of parge at the top 200mm of the wall, and leave to dry. Then some Passive Purple liquid airtight membrane over that. Then the AT membrane comes down the roof, drop vertically on to the wall for about 100mm, then tape goes from membrane to PP. Then all M&E 1st fix, then get AeroBarrier in. Happy days.
  17. It's called an Electroniq Airflex 15 . I did a thread back in 2022 when I was learning and choosing, and progress reports. https://forum.buildhub.org.uk/topic/28048-use-of-portable-air-conditioners-heat-pumps/
  18. But what do most self-builders do?
  19. Depends on the current rating of the cable vs the draw off the motors. These are usually geared down quite a lot so not huge amounts of power (not voltage) required, but we’d need to know some basic info to help.
  20. Building control can be carried out by private companies too which has injected a bit of 'customer service' into both the private and LABC
  21. Also be keen to see if ever an option ourselves!
  22. I fitted my swing gates on our previous build and that’s all I used The box of tricks that came with the motor was all colour coded Very similar to an automated garage door
  23. That sounds about right I think. My OH took the call and said he was ordering 20 tonnes but she now thinks he said 12. We don't have anywhere for an additional 8 tonnes !!
  24. We received our mortgage offer today from Hanley BS. One of the conditions that is stated on the mortgage offer is as follows. Subject to your Solicitors confirming which of the following will carry out Building Control: a) Local Authority b) Approved Inspector (full details required) The use of Approved Inspectors to carry out Building Control is allowed subject to them being registered as approved on the GOV.UK site We will be using Protek for our structural warranty provider, but I don't understand the question. I thought Building Control was always carried out by the LABC team and the inspections carried out by Protek are completely separate and solely to satisfy the warranty provider?
