This one. Territorial is CO2 from within our borders -so consuming stuff from abroad changes that figure alot. But Footprint includes that stuff and has still gone down - albeit not by as much. The footprint is very dependent on the CO2 output of the producer nations we import from (cough china cough).

Which is why they introduced planned obsolescance. I have a tools and household goods from the 70's and 80's that still function perfectly. Anything from mid tweenies onwards I expect to replace every five years (or in some cases I can 'bodge' to keep them working) Effectively better manufacturing now just means producing more stuff, not less. And for most 'western' manufacturers this means more production in China/Vietnam/India. I remember seing a chart a few years ago (possibly New Scientist) that showed each nations actual CO2 output each year based on their consumption of goods (manufacturing and shipping emmissions). Since this was agnostic to where the goods were manufactured it gave a much clearer picture of the UK's standing. It also showed historic CO2 output where ironically we had lower CO2 emmissions overall (for goods) due to manufacturing near to the point of sale, and use of local fuel sources (UK Coal and gas) Anyone know the chart I'm thinking of?

Since it seems they were trying to blind you with (whatever they were trying to blind you with!) I wonder if it would be worth getting a 3rd party involved. I cannot remember who they are, but I think some 'on here' have used a 'VAT Reclaim-Chaser'. Someone will know. I am not in any way doubting your ability to make a claim, but I know (not with VAT, but other stuff) what it is like when one party (which is not me) holds all the cards, and effectively only has to say 'no' and I am powerless. Having someone who has dealt with dozens of claims might get you a 'but hang-on; HMRC said the exact opposite in this claim, and that one....' re-balancing of power. Good luck, whatever. -

Lower case w is not a derived unit for two reasons, it is lower case, and no one famous has a name starting with W. Except a watt, W, named after a man. There is ω Which is angular frequency, radian per second. ω is not a w though, it is a lower case Greek omega. Sometimes it is printed in bold, ω. -

Bit about the business zero rating the bill is correct. If the invoice was supply + fit, then it should be zero rated at purchase. If supply only, then you pay VAT then reclaim. You should be able to get it back from them with an explanation though, they won't be out any money. Not sure why you'd have issues with windows/door/roofing, that seems exactly what you should be able to reclaim for. -

We go through icf wall, so pre installed plastic ducts before the concrete pour. You have the two ducts with an 50mm or so gap between them. No issues with SAP, like the Titon units as they are UK manufacturer and the you can actually talk technical to a person on the same wave length. Buying cheap I had a speed signal issue on one of the motors, parts arrived the next day to fix with instructions. Great service. Being Scotland we do a sap at design and completion. I had all the routes of ducts all designed in during design and I actually bought the 2x MVHR units at the design stage, prior to getting the as designed sap. So no issues. -
I’ve done this umpteen times, with all kinds of services; matters not a single jot what service(s) it is / are . For the split AC on my current clients build I simply used offcuts of 92mm MVHR duct as the sleeves, taped these to the interior AT layer, fed the pipes and cables through, and then the duct will get pumped full of Illbruck FM330 AT foam to complete; the foam seals for AT but is also, in a nutshell, liquid PIR insulation to boot. Condensate cannot be terminated internally I assume? If not, just send that through the same oversized duct. Externally I just use a mastic such as CT1, or similar NON silicone sealant, and bond the duct to the external medivent board, leaving a load of it as excess. Then push the outer membrane into the mastic, smooth with a tool, then go over the lot again until mummified. I’m home today but back on site tomorrow, so I’ll post some pics for you. Very easy to do, so don’t be intimidated by this at all

Then the UK is an exceptionally bad example to look to, other countries are a much better guide in those situations. Which most other countries think is stark raving mad. Even the countries with difficult systems generally have a much easier time than we do for nationally significant projects. This is an example of an area where if we were setting a good example we would have changed this system earlier (there have been recent changes), which would have fairly significantly lowered the cost of some of our decarbonisation efforts, which in turn would have enabled us to do more, faster, or resulted in less impact on our industrial base. We still have so much low hanging fruit that we don't address because the costs of doing so are ridiculous (compared to contemporaries). No, but you can compare costs between countries. Other countries generally do big projects at a significantly lower cost than we do.

Most of that will depend on the starting points i.e. if only a third of your country has access to reliable electricity. Also there is land use rights. The UK has a system set up to stop change, so everything takes a long time. And keep in mind new RE is extra capacity i.e. new generation. You can't compare costs to legacy generation easily, or fairly.

Cool. What do you have 2 holes through the wall and they just connect into these? Neat solution. I went through roof tiles at my last place. How did you get on with your SAP with the titon units did you buy these before the design stage or did you change your as built SAP to allow for them? -

H is used to denote a henry, which is electrical inductance. A small h is generally used to denote hour, though it is not an SI derived unit. When it comes to energy, we should use J, for joule, as that is the agreed SI unit. Would be much easier if we stuck to that. Imagine that when you fill up your car, you buy by energy unit, not a volume. Then efficiency could be easily compared between fuel types. -
On it's face it's impressive but still I think there are fair criticisms that we choose an expensive way of doing it. In mitigation you can say we started relatively early and it's inevitable mistakes were made. However, I think there are likely better examples out there even just confined to generation (and that's taking a holistic view of the last 30 years). If you limit yourself to just examples from the last 10 years or so (ie, during the time when technologies matured) there are many countries that have done a very significantly better job than us at taking advantage of the more recent developments (second/third mover advantage). If your goal is to help more countries achieve big reductions, then learning from these second/third movers should be the goal. Using the UK as a guide to less optimal solutions.

A ran for a year at minimum speed and never saw any mixing going on by monitoring temperature. Out flow is rejected horizontally outwards, inwards flow comes from below and the sides, so out flow has a hard job making it's way back in. -

You can get from 125mm to 200mm so should cover all domestic properties. https://www.paulheatrecovery.co.uk/product-category/mvhr-ducting/terminals-external/ Two MVHR units was just simple. Our house is 25m long and to save too many long duct runs I picked up two Titon units from eBay for peanuts. I also used coanda supply nozzles to reduce and simply duct runs/length and used 90mm duct to make double runs limited. -

They would need rather a strong flow speed to ensure the expelled air is sent clear. It's simple hydraulics so presumably that's been factored in. I once discounted mvhr totally because none of the manufacturers had thought of this. In those says the heat exchangers were inefficient too. That mostly explains my resistance to mvhr... but 15 years or so is a long time for things to improve at the expense of early adopters. -
The pir is horrible to squeeze in when 100 or thicker. Very much easier at 50mm.

We have UFH and house is always at a comfortable temperature. The problem we have is at 9pm when you stop doing stuff, stop moving around. This is especially true for the four months mid winter when you want to be snug and cosy in the evening for a couple of hours. Our solution is to light the log burner at around 8.30 pm for literally 2 hours, just to create that felling. There must be other options. It’s not cold without the additional heat, but I find a big difference between comfort temperature doing stuff and watching telly or reading at night. Could always put a pullover on and extra socks!
