  2. Yes it does and possibly the most expensive in the world when talking about industrial prices, which are what really matter most when it comes to the economy. https://www.ft.com/content/f3bcd4a4-0a5f-4fc1-ad8a-cf2530e6001a?syn-25a6b1a6=1

  4. Real life electrical invoice for my apartment in Spain, West of Marbella. See attached and salient points as folllows: We are with iBERDROLA, which owns Scottish Power Period 20/My to 20 May 2026 Weather was OK so no heating/ac used in period Most of cost is for water heating - 8/9kWh/day TOU are basially obligatory in Spain for domestic customers - three charge rates, which are shown as attached. Note low rate for 24 hr Saturday and Sunday "Smart" Meters seem to obligatory for all consumers - you do not get a choice/ They work well and reliably. It is a deregulated market, so you shop around for suppliers but it is not as easy or straightforward as UK, in my experience The bill identifies and details all charges. VAT was reduced at the start of the Iran conflict, from 21% to 10% The standing charges are based on your elected "Potentia", which is maximum kW Service that you require/choose, based on you expected peak load requirement. Our "Potentia" 9.7kW and if exceed it the supply is cut-off and I think they charge you to reset it. Also, they will charge you to change it, up or down - about 35 euros from memory Happy reading 643986364_2026-05-27-17.00.20.010299_BH.pdf

Nope. As I said to you before - not a Dunoon Daftie 😏 (a friendly reminder).
  6. (expletive deleted) me ! How many turn ons in just a few sentences!
  7. The one praised was an exception. All the above The app doesn't work for me at all and they just say it should, call head office. Prices on the monthly specials sheet are always worth a look but I have to collect. Internal doors look good. It's amazing they can do a solid room door for £45 but a kitchen unit door is £90.
  8. Biggest problem is looking for cladding for the side nearest the boundary, the steel portal frame is fabricated and that’s not going to change, I served my time in a blacksmith’s that put hundreds of sheds up over the years and not one has fell down, last shed I fabricated was 80’ wide and 160’ long 25 years ago, I moved on to work offshore and am hopefully getting near retirement, engineers do calculations and that is ok but to put wind bracing pipes in the roof structure that are 48.4 x 4mm tube and cross bracing that is 50 x 5 flat bar does not cut it with me, also I was going to use wooden purlins but he wanted 9” x 4” timber for 4.5mtr bays also seems a bit strange, he then said we could use a 120mm Albion z-purlin at 1.2 mtr centres which seems a little light to replace a 9”x4” timber, z-purlins are not easy to come by in Northern Ireland so using a multi beam 140mm purlin as agreed with SE….
  9. Guys ….. she’s now 76 years old even with some WD40 and a whole tin of Brasso, it’s still just an old school robot from the 1980s
  10. Not clear from this how they work it out, but it appears the costs include everything: Also, could this insane number possibly be right?: I think the UK is on track to spend something like £1.5b on curtailment this year, which seems a lot. Could Germany really be spending nearly 300 times as much? 😶 And that's down from €554b in 2024.
  11. If the rooflights are toughened and laminated the requirement for balustrade may be reduced anyway. Don't forget access for cleaning with all that glass.
  12. Well that is good to hear. My experience has been that they have been difficult to deal with, I could not get the online part to work. They often want to send out a salesperson but I had issues getting prices. I would like to use them, as they have a branch near me but they are not easy to do business with.
  13. Couldn't possibly comment. No I could. The one who supplied the Steading were great: straight forward, listened and answered, and a good price straight off.
  14. What standing charges do EU countries have?
  15. They’ll bean-count the shit out of it…..
  16. I think this is a devil is in the detail question. EU data is H2 2025 whereas 24.67p is price cap now, so was a few p higher in the comparative period, say 32 euro cents. Still not most expensive. I believe a lot of the shouting is about prices for industry which are not set in the same way as household prices. I have no idea where we stand on that measure and I'd imagine a serious international comparison is highly non trivial and well beyond journalists.
  17. A shame because I have found Howdens arseholes to deal with and have bought about a dozen from DIY kitchens.
  18. Pretty wide range of pricing there.
  19. Integrated multi outlet or all mounted. Should be easy to do if you plan ahead Cool Energy do fan coils for bathrooms, with towel rail also
  20. Take a very close look at the MLCP connectors because they choke down the bore of the pipe to a huge degree at every connection. I think I measured the internal bore of a 16mm MLCP connector as just 6mm diameter. You might like to take a look at this system which flares the ends of the pipe and avoids choking off the flow... https://forum.buildhub.org.uk/topic/47102-elbow-fittings-flow-loss/#findComment-658055 As I have said before MLCP is an attractive system for plumbers, but not for end customers given the risk of flow problems.
  21. likewise. Back to helping the OP we go……. @Babybirddog, get some pics so we can see if the inside is as shart as the outside. And also some of the flue; check if this is loose or has been cemented in properly.

@Square Feet a friendly reminder? There's a danger that at this stage one sees getting the land as winning. you haven't forgotten other issues while being rightly focussed on availability? Planning, access , services, trees, ground conditions etc.
  23. As the question ends with a question mark, you know it does not Here are the EU prices. https://www.euronews.com/2026/06/01/germany-is-a-leader-in-renewables-so-why-does-it-have-one-of-the-highest-eu-electricity-pr Below are the full EU rankings: Ireland: €0.40 Germany: €0.39 Belgium: €0.35 Denmark: €0.33 Austria: €0.33 Czechia: €0.32 Italy: €0.30 Romania: €0.29 Cyprus: €0.28 Sweden: €0.27 Poland: €0.27 Spain: €0.27 Luxembourg: €0.27 France: €0.26 Netherlands: €0.26 Latvia: €0.25 Portugal: €0.24 Greece: €0.24 Estonia: €0.23 Finnland: €0.23 Slovenia: €0.21 Lithuania: €0.20 Slovakia: €0.19 Croatia: €0.17 Bulgaria: €0.14 Malta: €0.13 Hungary: €0.11 The UK is currently £0.24.67 with is €0.29/kWh. The same as Romania. https://energyguide.org.uk/average-cost-electricity-kwh-uk/
  24. Do you mind telling on discount level. We expected 20% from howden , based on previous, but they are sticking at about 17. I get the feeling that the salesman gets a cut of the difference and is pushing his luck.
  25. Good resource, thank you. I did use mastic tape but only one strip per join so there is quite a lot of metal to metal contact beyond the joint. These documents seem to suggest two would be better.
  26. This is an important response for us because, if true, then it changes everything. So, it might be the case that we won't fit UFH upstairs at all. We are planning fan coils for the 2 first floor bedrooms, perhaps we just use fan coils for the bathrooms too? We have plenty of opportunity to conceal them and just have grille outlets. We'd probably add an in-wall electric heat pad of some sort to act as a towel warmer. I think you might have really helped here @JohnMo. The reduction in agro and the improvement in the reliability of the floor point to this.
  27. Glad we just bought ours ahead of this!
