Whats the pressure reading below the red tank? -
We are in a Radon zone and require 'basic' protection. I contacted Visqueen to ask if they offer a design service, so I can understand the junction details. They came back an said they do offer a design service and it's £3000. I'm going to ask if they have added an extra zero by mistake 😂 I doubt they have, so I thought I'd ask what did those of you do who also found they needed Radon protection measures. I might consider an alternative supplier, if that's how they treat potential customers.

Flow sensor is zero so that is the problem but I can't test any further. Within a few seconds of turning the heating on the error code comes up. -

I spoke to soon. Now we have no heating or hot water and an error code. We had to leave the minute the engineer left as they were 2 hours late. He left the heating and hot water on. Clearly the error code came right after he left as our hot water is 18 degrees and the house is cold. I am absolutely fuming. We are in an even worse position than before. I will be on the phone to them at 9am in the morning! -

I like this positive outlook, and you may be right in the sense that he is very matter-of-fact in the sense that his report simply states what he has seen at the time, as he’s said in the past that if he reflects what is in the design but we don’t build to it, then his report may be misused. I hope to get this clarified.

Thank you for this. This is exactly what I have been poring over but recognise that just because I want the floor height to be the answer doesn’t mean someone else sees it the same way - you’ve summarised it the same way I (biased) view it, which is reassuring. I did ask about it at plans stage but because of the uneven ground and complexities of the suspended floor structure there were always going to be likely differences between as-designed and as-built. Then the SE added in a beam under the floor that raised it another 150mm and it caused another headache… you get the idea perhaps. (Note to self - I really should do a blog) It’s very robust, SE-designed, steelwork, lots of huge joists, 32mm deck. I do wonder if the BC forgot all about the conversation where he said that the deck level would be the level measured to. @kandgmitchell thanks for your reply.

There is the inverter controller outside but I think the indoor wiring centre controls most things The relay is for cylinder immersion control. You can drive a couple of secondary pumps, mixer valve, 3 port valve etc. plus lots more.

Holy crap! Is that wiring center also the controller ie the outdoor unit has no brains at all and it's all inside? That seems like a lot of relays, chips and the like just to connect the various valves, pumps and thermostats.l!

Yes and Wolesely don't tell you any different. They want a restocking fee to take it back. They do sound small, I keeping my 50L volumiser in system so will retain the existing expansion vessel in circuit.

Be interesting to see how you get on. I've been keepng an eye on Haier since Graham Hendra went to work there. That's a very good price and surprising the controls come with it as the brochures says controls are sold separate. One question/comment is that the expansion tanks seem quite small at 4.5 & 8l? Is this correct and what does the technical documentation say about system volumes with those?

Following with interest. One of the things that bugs me about heat pumps, is there is no standard for how you wire them. Mine, an LG needs a LOT of individual connections to the heat pump itself. It looks like with yours all those connections go to this indoor box presumably connected to the outside unit with a simple cable. It makes swapping from one heat pump to a different make a lot more complicated.

Just need some warmer weather to allow old heat pump to be removed and this one installed. Have had to add antifreeze valves, part of the warranty conditions. Have got Inta Zero ones that reference water temperature not air temperature. Brand new half price bargain from eBay.

Some photos Indoor wiring centre with controller installed (no wiring installed). Simple install screened cable to outside unit and power. Cover on and wing complete, all metal casing and very heavy duty. No sharp edges. Outdoor unit, for a 4kW unit it's pretty big, the condenser and fan are very big compared to the Maxa unit currently installed which is a 6kW.

A agree Part B isn't always the clearest. However, Diagram 2.1b refers to escape from dwellinghouses with a storey no higher than 4.5m from ground level. The dimension arrows are confusing as they seem to suggest a window cill but that is not the case as other diagrams use the same form of measurement when physical escape from windows is not relevant (eg cavity barriers). It must refer to the floor height. Diagram D6 in Appendix D measures storey height from the upper surface of the floor to external ground level. This reinforces the assumption that "storey height" is measured from floor level not window or ceiling level. The issue for the OP is that the height of the first floor storey is more than 4.5m because storey height is measured to the lowest ground level and so having a storey over 4.5m high triggers the requirement shown in Diagram 2.1c. I would argue therefore any upper floor habitable room requires a protected escape route and building control are correct. It's a pity this wasn't determined at plans stage. Now having started from that position, it's sensible to look at the actual situation. If you have rooms where the ground outside any escape window is less than 4.5m from floor level then realistically they are no worse off than a "normal" two storey house. Others that rely on a decking to reduce that height to 4.5m are different. I think that depends on the decking. If it's substantial structural floor that is perhaps partially supported by the house well that's one thing. If it's a skimpy timber patio deck then that's another. The OP is going to have to convince BC that the deck is a permanent structure that would just as improbable to remove as digging out the ground outside the compliant windows at a later date would be.
