I think you need to have a word with them. As you say, with 5kW which won't be running at that for much of the time (other than during dhw), the 28mm pipe is just too big. Tell them to sort themselves out and do it properly. There is the option to use compression reducers with those fittings and use 22mm pipe for the rest of it - there are some pieces of equipment that only come with 28mm compression but the manufacturers chuck in the reducers for 22mm situations in the box. But what do you mean by 28mm bends - not flexis surely as these units don't need flexis.

Package STP (Solido Smart). I have seen some other systems say they shouldn't receive water softener regeneration waste, but need to check my one. It has already occurred to me that I might be able to bypass the treatment plant with the regeneration drain. My thinking is there shouldn't be anything inherently 'nasty' about the regeneration drain except a high concentration of what has been removed from the hard water. those minerals would have ended up in the STP output anyway so it doesn't seem questionable to put that into the ground.

Yeah even my weekly limit which resets June 11th will be ok for this week. But its obvious I'm going to hit my 5hr limit frequently and then eventually the weekly limit. If you ask OpenReach they'll tell you only they are allowed to move the master socket. That detail aside... I'd say what everyone else said. Wrap some electrical tape to insulate the wires from each other before pulling back out through the wall. Else if they short they'll spark rather worryingly.

You guessed right, I didn't really want a split unit. And also they are marketed as high temperature units, where I don't expect to ever want to go above 45 or 50 degrees for HW, much less for heating. .. and they cost about a grand more.

So the heat pump has been delivered and it looks like it may actually be anthracite, which is remarkable, though it is difficult to see without taking all the cardboard off. The heat pump manual states 22mm flaw and return. I told the supplier this and I told him I did not want to "upgrade to 28mm". The plumber subsequently spoke to his contact at the suppliers and the heat pump has turned up with 28mm bends (that were no on the original invoice I saw) and 28mm AF valves, and 28mm stop valves. The flow rate for this heat pump is just 14 l/min. I imagine that is why the external pipework is specified at 22mm to maintain the velocity and minimise potential heat loss. I texted the plumber yesterday to tell him that the pipework had to be 22mm, I guess I was too late and the supplier and plumber agreed to use 28mm regardless my instruction or panasonic specification. The holes cored in the wall are sized for 22mm pipe and insulation, which I have on site. I suppose that, with the 28mm bends and stop valves and AF valves that have been delivered, the plumber intends to install these and then reduce to 22mm. It may be that the holes cored in the wall, or at least one of them, is too low, so that the AF valve may need to be installed at the lowest point being the entry into the house, and not at the HP end, hence the 28mm valve may sit in the middle of 2 lengths of 22 mm copper. Should I put my foot down and insist on 22mm AF valves and ball valves, or is it not a big deal?

Ah, okay. How come you chose that over the newer r290 L series? Any particular technical reasons other than that the L series has to have an indoor unit?

Seems to have happened with Claude as I reached my new 5 hour limit somehow - even though the time was spent getting it to debug and unravel problems it caused in the first place! Infuriating. At least I was only locked out for a couple of hours until my next window opened up again. It feels like being back on the free plan. But sometimes I despair, causes lots of bugs but even worse, I gave it a page with CSS I had written and confirmed to work. Asked it to produce a separate CSS file using that and then strip out a load of duplicate CSS from other pages and to link to the new CSS page. It completed the task but over-wrote my CSS with its own CSS that didn't work and then forgot to strip out the CSS from several of the other pages. Sometimes I think it just loses the plot or else someone has got bored and decided to implement algorithm based enshitification for a laugh.

After the inane process our planning department put us through to get our planning, the devil in me says the planning officer should be formally reported to the head of planning for attempting to alter a decision made by the planning committee without the proper authority. That might help to put the Little Hitler back in his box and stop him trying it on with anyone else.

Are you on mains drainage or a private sewage system? Most private sewage systems won't work with salt water softener systems, I believe. Had a Twintec system in the past. Ok, but paying for the salt blocks started to get weary after a few years.

Neighbours are often confused about when the planning process starts and stops. I know mine are - they're still bitching about everything even though permission was granted 18 months ago. As long as you build to the approved plans, the discussion is over when the permission is granted.

BC won't care a bit about them and no need to tape the ends. At some point you'll want to terminate them and plug them into a big hub/switch. But until then, yeah maybe some fire stopping implications for the penetrations(s).

Do find this very much goes against everything you seem to preach. It may have massive benefit for ease of travel, but is this travel really needed or just a nice to have?

If they are not carrying current I don't see what this would have to do with BC. If they are compromising a fire rated ceiling or floor you would need to fire stop them.
