@alwayslearning22 is this the finished install or did you take the photo when the Sparky was till working on it? Has it been left with the cover missing on the box above? If this is the case, then as well as the single insulated tails it has left live terminals exposed and the cables connected to the unit above are dangling from the terminals rather than being mechanically supported by a gland. This is all kind of wrong!

This sentimental love of coal power is rather amusing. Having woked at several power stations over the years here's some differences to consider. In a coal power station there is a coal plant, that is run by a team of staff constantly unloading coal froom trains or ships and moving it around a pile and then loading it onto conveyors into the main plant buiildings. The coal then runs along a conveyor, through a pulveriser and blown into the furnace. This heats up a boiler to create steam to drive the turbine. There is then the various de-sulphuristaion and nox plants to run, and a team of chemists to constantly monitor the emissions. Then there is the ash that comes out of the other end and needs to be disposed of. Some of this is sold to the cement industry but most of it ends up in landfill on which the station pays landfill tax. And there is a lot of ash. To start up a coal plant from cold takes about a day to heat up the boiler and synchronise. Ramp times are slow. This is not very useful in an energy system where generators need to be flexible and responsive. Units that can synchronise and ramp up quickly, run for 20 minutes and then desynchroise are king. Generators that stay on and run at constant load are of little benefit. They displace wind power (that is effectively free) when its windy and can't ramp up when it isn't. (hint:nuclear) Running a coal power station requires lots of moving parts, a lot of land, and lots of people. It is contunuously labour and capital intensive. And dirty. It is simply not economically viable to run a coal power station compared to gas. A gas power station has one guy in a control room. He presses a button to start and stop the turbine. No emissions, no ash, no coal plant. And it goes from off (windy) to full load (not so windy) within minutes.

I wouldnt be choosing my insulation based on the packaging it comes in. Eps all the way for me if you have the depth. Cheaper and easier.

I agree OP really should have removed the doors himself and given a spec. Or even engaged a surveyor and got them to get tenders for a spec for the job. But they won't...

Protective film should be removed within 6 months, earlier if possible and definitely before any render work/cladding work is undertaken and +1 for sticky stuff remover.

There is disruption and disruption. The outage last April in Spain that disconnected 31GW of power for 10 hours was caused by renewables and the fact that renewable output isn't managed at the correct frequency as it isn't generated by tunable turbines There is a balance to be struck here, the transition needs to be managed and needs to be proceed at a sensible pace. Worth mentioning that leaving any protective film on kitchen cabinets for too long should be avoided too. After over a year we had a few areas that were quite sticky (worse on bits we'd peeled off slightly). Luckily warm soapy water was enough in our case.

Stiff bristle pan brush tried and to be replaced by wire brush after Contura dealer have been contacted. They also do their own "repair" spray paint. A bit more expensive than the general stove paint.

With the benefit of experience, I can tell you that the "right" way to do this is to specify up front as part of the tender (i.e. quote process) for the doors that you want to review the detail for the load bearing to mitigate cold bridging (and that this is of importance and so should be allowed for), and that a technical drawing must be prepared by the door company for review and client sign off prior to commencing production. After the fact, they have potentially done exactly as they were asked in this case.

Says who? As a local, it will be the most exciting thing to happen around here for years.... We've already eyeballed a bluff to the east overlooking the site as the best location to watch the demolition - champagne, canapes.... Although I do agree, cooling towers do have a majesty. There was a movement to keep one of them and use it as an exhibition space and climbing wall but I think that fell through.

We had a layer of each. The pir was clingwrapped in sixes and had eps packing. It certainly kept the boards in good condition.

I'm pretty sure that within compliant inverters there's multiple layers of disconnection so there's unlikely to be a scenario where a single failure within the inverter will keep the power on the plug

Safety never comes with an absolute guarantee and its all managed/regulated on the basis of what is reasonable. Theres 1600 people killed on british roads each year yet were still all free to drive at potentially lethal speeds. Theres 1000s die prematurely each year due to poor urban air quality yet we can still burn oil/gas/diesel/wood in urban areas. Plug in solar, as with anything at dangerous voltage, might injure or even kill the odd person that misuses it or CHOOSES to personally import it and potentially bypass UK/EU safety regulation, but their loss is likely to be outweighed by the benefits

People will actually be sad when it blows up too. They like to see the cooling towers. Its all just insane.

That's what I expected. But this was less technical. They broke a slat from a pallet and marked 40mm and 50mm on it.. min and max depth. That seemed to work as there was about 1/4 m3 waste. But as for waste. I was optimistic that there wouldn't be much insulation wastage and that was the case. I didn't deduct for stud wall areas, did add 2 sheets for mistakes or lack of care, and had 3 sheets surplus. It will ho in walls. BUT what cutting waste there is, is very bulky, perhaps 5 x by volume, maybe more. And the packaging waste is dreadful too, with cardboard snd cling wrap and eps spacers. Moral... allow a skip cost simply for the insulation and ufh. Being petty and mean... (cost conscious and efficient) I found that the cling wrapping compresses dramatically when rolled up and squeezed into bags. Ie I took it out of the skip and compressed it. Pipe offcuts take lots of space too. And the eps packing baulks look useful so are set aside. Saved £150 or more in an hour.... I care much more than they do. Stop press.... I'm told pir will rise in price by 10% then another 18%. So I guess eps and plastic pipes will do too.
