Why do people think that self building a home is cheaper, and better, that getting professionals to do it. Just imagine what carnage there would be on the roads if people built their own bicycles from components, let alone a motorbike or car.

Don't you own a whole quarry?

Not sure about manufacturers but two things I've found in my research: 1. Can get different thicknesses (I'd prefer thicker but it's obviously heavier, harder to handle and more expensive) 2. You can get different coatings on the panels. I think typical panels have 20-25 year coatings but you can find more expensive options offering up to 60 year coatings. Though the longer lasting coatings might have less colour choice. As usual with me, no practical experience just commenting on research I've done for myself.

p.s. are any of the supplier's panels better quality or are they much of a muchness?

I know this is not a common roof treatment here on 't 'ub, but we're planning to do one of these roofs shortly. I've watched a bunch of YouTube videos (of course) and am finding a bit of variation. Most are US or Australian videos so maybe part of that is due to the local weather. I've these questions: + I'm seeing eaves overhang from 25 up to 75mm. I'm thinking 50mm for our site, but am interested in anyone else's experience. + I'm seeing some quite complex examples of folded ends to the flashings - presumably for water resistance and aesthetics. Seems to me a trade off between how well you can do the hand folding (most don't do a great job) and just having cut edges. Anyone do this? + I'm seeing some use of foam closures at the eaves & ridge but not universally. Seems to me a trade-off between water resistance & ventilation. Any thoughts? + I'm seeing some use of 'Z-flashings' - sometimes under the ridge flashing instead of foam strips, sometimes along the eaves. Can't really see the benefit? On a quote I got from Cladco they added Z flashings ... but then they also added gloves, a measuring tape and a kitchen sink ... OK maybe not the last one.

Your idea isn't simple enough. Others above have - between them - listed many of the barriers to entry into the self build sector. Solve any single one of them , and you're in business.

No, just a self builder. You *might* get away with PIR but low permability materials used like this are very intolerant of errors in workmanship. Let us know if you every have a look behind it.

Forget the goats, Defra compliance is a nightmare. for brambles and rough grass, hire a walk behind flail mower (often called a Scag mower although that’s just a manufacturer of several rough mowers) or even local farmer should have a flail or topper that will cope with anything upto a sapling.

I have a Zehnder Comfoair 180, with a Comfosense 67/CCS controller (RS232 comms). The controller has capacitive pads under the plastic faceplate, and after working fine for a couple of months with light usage it suddenly become unreliable with missed button presses, gradually getting worse to the point that it had to be operated with the plastic plate removed, and eventually mixing up key presses or phantom presses. I swapped it out for a spare Comfosense and the replacement is working fine. Has anyone here experienced reliability issues with these controllers? It seems potentially quite fragile, being based on a flexible PCB which sits wedged between the plastic display surround and the front cover. I don't see myself interacting with it much from now on anyway, since flow rates are commissioned, and boost is controlled via the bathroom switch input by Home Assistant based on air quality and humidity rise/fall rules.

Why 2x manifolds? Just done 16 ports here, same manifold location, so doubt you need to spend out on the second setup.

Honestly. Can't work out if it's brilliant or mad. Getting Multiple Claude sessions to literally talk to each other so they dont stomp on each other's commits. But just had to tell one session off for (expletive deleted)ing about and drifting. I demoted it to help another sessaion as an advisor!. I can see it grovelling to the other session and offering its support and knowledge. Bizarre to watch. These is all MY BITCHES

I have a UFH design, done by the company who'll be doing the screeding. They are able to supply quality components without the mark-up the likes of Continal et al enjoy. But what of the Supply and Return pipes for the manifolds? We haven't bottomed out an ASHP design yet and ideally would prefer to kick this can a little further down the road if possible. Is it normal for these pipes to be placed in the screed to be considered later? There is a manifold in the Utility Room, very close to the ASHP (no need for buried pipes?), plus one in the Kitchen and a possible third one for the first floor (I can't imagine that needs considering in the ground floor screed).

They will definitely wander off. And they need access to shelter, food and water. Domesticated goats are not particularly hardy.

But do you really need a dehumidifier with MVHR is winter. Our humidity levels are pretty low anyway. Overnight and they are dry next morning. MVHR doesn't even go into boost. We only dry stuff that doesn't going the heat pump dryer.
