... may have been well summarised in a quote on the Radio 4 programme "You and Yours" this lunchtime by a gentleman from the Swimming Pools Association about the current boom in swimming pools.

"What about Hot Tubs?"
"Hot tubs are the devil's own swimming pool."

This was known, in almost all its features, to Hieronymous Bosch the artist - 500 years ago.

This is "Tondal's  Vision".

(No, I don't like hot tubs very much.)

Of course the man from the swimming pool association would say that.

Cold tub today, turned it down to 32 degrees Celsius.

Absolutely ?

I've put a question mark on the title,  just for you.

This reminds me of a property in the Scottish Highlands I was interested in last summer, the agents made a big point about the wonderful hot tub outside. Mmmmm, thought I, for hot tub please read "midges banqueting hall". Anyway, when I went to view another spot nearby in November what do I find by the side of the road??? the remnants of a dismantled hot-tub, presumably awaiting collection for disposal ?

Used to fit and service spa baths.

The worse job I ever did was cleaning out the DE filter at the Sheffield YMCA.

I have no idea what those young men got up to in it.

Also got this https://www.healthline.com/health/hot-tub-folliculitis from the Bedford leisure centre spa bath.

Only stood in for 2 minutes.

"Hot tubs are the devil's own swimming pool."

This does not even start to describe them.

Made the mistake of putting mine down a couple of weeks ago. Would have been beautiful this week in this heat.

Why would you want an outside bathtub where you never change the water?

They are surprisingly popular up here.  Next door neighbour has one.  We declined the offer to join them in it.

Ours hasn't been used since last year. No2 daughter who was never out of it isn't fussed now.

We put it back up as soon as lock down started as the weather was good enough to use several times a week, most weeks up to end of May. Since then the weather had been too bad and when I had to take the gazebo down several times it wasn’t worth keeping it maintained to not use. But if I’d been able to leave it at about 30 degrees this week it would have been beautiful in this heat.

Daughter said she'd been in the neighbours one with her friend, and said they were all complaining of sore eyes afterwards ( assuming this is where mum and dad just add more chlorine to dilute the fatty human juices and other such 'discharge' from nighttime activities after the aforementioned sprog was asleep....... )

Took said daughter to the local Esso garage promptly after, and spent £11 in the jet-wash with the heat set to the STERILISE setting.  ??

Anyone who says they haven't "bumped genitals" in one of these is a liar. Anyone who says they change the water 'routinely' mean ONLY when mum and dad refuse to get into it because they need a claw hammer to break through the surface layer.

F.uck that.

I can just about see the appeal of getting in a freshly filled hot tub at night, preferably when there's snow on the ground. Maybe, just maybe I'd let the missus in, well 30 years or so ago. Thereafter afaic it's bathwater and should be emptied and refilled.

Other than that it's skin soup.

I think the last time went in it was August 2018 when me and my lad had finished plastering the bathroom. Can't remember why tbh but whatever I'd have been straight in the shower afterwards.

We too have friends who keep inviting us over to share their hot tub. Ugh!

The holiday lets next door to me change the water and the filters after every let, so once a week.

It is a full days job for two guys to clean and change 9 tubs, but he does charge a premium for them.

Yea. That’s because it’s ordained by the health and safety rules and regs.
Neigbours probably still on the same vat of water that first went in. Prob 92% chlorine now ?. Doubt very much that the other 8% is water though......
Yuk.

3 days is the most we keep the water in. After that it's chlorine and a splash of water and you can feel your skin crawl.

We went away for a weekend and my young lad and his mates used it. They where only in it for a few hrs each night. When we got home the water was greener than grass and could have made at least one pair of socks from the toe fluff. Power hose, bleach and a lot of elbow grease to get the smell out. They are banned from it now.
